  • More evidence that only the good die young - and yes I am not yet.

  • Bobby left us too early :(

  • BEAUTIFULL, ALL IT NEEDS IS RON BURGUNDY ON THAT JAZZ FLUTE...

  • This is his ultimate version. Not to fast, with such raw power in his voice when needed... just perfect!

  • A great singer with talents. He left us way to young- but our Lord picks the time for each of us, so PLEASE SEEK OUT THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU..THE TRINITY.

  • I just love him

  • would you still find me........save my love throgh sorrow, give me tomorrow, would you still LOVE me. so uplifting, Bobby REST IN PEACE & GOD BLESS

  • Can't help but let my tears run down my cheeks - so beautiful, and sentimental.

  • awesome voice and live recording too, just awesome

  • I love that last note he sings.

  • manhkpop - you're my hero!!

  • This is one of the most hauntingly beautiful love songs ever written, and no one does it justice like Bobby Darin.

  • The Best

  • Simply stunning, What a voice

  • Bobby Darin - what a beautiful man. Was magic with a wonderful voice. My King of Cool. The Best of all times. He may have been born with a bad heart, but died with a good heart. I miss you ! R I P, Bobby !

  • he really feels the beauty of this song....

  • i had this song as one of my wedding songs it was also the first song i put on after my little girl was born i love this song!!!!!! bobby's versions best!!

  • "If I were a carpenter, and you were a douche bag."

  • Funny how we go through trends and come out the other side and yet we still love QUALITY.

One of the clasic sounds from MY youth and still think this is by far one of the most awsome songs from when I was growing into a man.

    thanks for the memmories.

  • Bobby was taken from us far too soon.

  • This killed me.

  • yummy-

  • My parents used to sing this song as a duet, like Johnny Cash and June Carter, but they always sang Bobby Darin's version. It's so beautiful.

  • The Soprano's; Series 5; Episode 9.

  • I love ALL of Bobby's songs, but this has to be his VERY BEST, man, the feeling he put in this song, so fantastic!

  • perfection....thank you

  • If there was any doubt to this man's talent, well...

  • i worked backstage(stage hand) at the Latin Casino and met this great man. It was right after Bobby was assasinated and he talked about what a great loss we have had.

    Tom Murphy

  • an absolute angel

  • Thank you Bobby...

  • Dear Lord; Give us back Bobby Darin, John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley and Dean Martin and we'll gladly give you Bieber, Gaga and Lil Wayne.

  • @joshman783 Now, now, that's not very nice....Who's Lil Wayne?

  • @jake1052003 I don't know some kind of circus act or something

  • A brilliant talent who died far too early. Luckily, there is great deal on here to enjoy, from his big hits like Dream Lover, Mack the Knife, Beyond the Sea and my favourite Clementine. And this song, which showed his range from early rock, swing music through to folk/country like this. And an Academy Award nomination in the bargain. Second only to Frank for me.

  • Whoa!!! oh my god. they don't sing that anymore. do they? do they?

  • Didn't Paul Anka rip off this song with God-awful "She's Having My Baby" song? Bobby Darin could kick Anka's ass anytime, anywhere!

  • This is awesome. I was privileged to have met Bobby Darin in Puerto Rico in the late sixties. He was appearing at the San Juan Hilton and a group of us, late teens from NYC were having a party on the San Juan beach. Bobby stopped by

and had a few of our incredibly intoxicating Rum Bash. He was gracious and

I have to say, we were in awe that this guy was hanging with us. Mr. Darin

must have worn a toupee because he was partially bald but still looked great.

    Wonderful guy!

  • AMAZING...............

  • This shit is so fucking fantastic!

  • What a nice voice. So communicative, well place. Mellow

  • Love him and this gorgeous song. What a wonderful talent taken far too soon.

  • Amazing voice.. If I could sing like that I sure as hell wouldn't be a carpenter..

  • 38 people are carpenters!

  • I've seen a lot of Darin videos and heard a lot of his songs, but this is BY FAR the most beautifully sung one so far

  • pussy rider! :D

  • This was an amazing song, and then JAZZ FLUTE!!! Top notch all around.

  • Bobby... CLASSIC, Timeless...

  • wow amazing voice

  • AWESOME!

  • ... NEVER KNEW "how much" meaning this song and Bobbys rendition would have in my Life... until NOW, thanks "J"... smiles. I LOVE YOU.

  • He wasn´t sick here...was he?

    So pretty

  • great voice

  • dieses lied soll auf meiner beerdigung lafen, kenne kein besseres da kommt nur 1 lied mit cats in the cradle von harry chapin beides unschlagbar ...

  • Love this song and his singing...

  • 7 years after his original release, he performs here with amazing heart and soul. So many performers are unable to maintain the original passion they put into their music. What a professional.

  • Check out youtube/lulu.mov

  • Just sung this at karaoke. I got considerably less applause than Darin did.

  • What a professional

  • A voice like that makes me believe there is a God. That can't just be a product of evolution...

  • @Duesvinet

    Can't agree more!

  • @Duesvinet Why not?

  • @CorporateGrind Because I say so!

  • @Duesvinet What a great comment...love it :)))

  • @Duesvinet Amen.

  • @Duesvinet A voice like this makes me believe in a person starting with a good singing voice and taking it to perfection.

  • @Duesvinet No, it is genetic to BE Bobby Darin.

  • @Duesvinet I absolutely LOVED your comment...and God made a person like you to say such words that touches a person as myself!

  • @Duesvinet

Amen to that, you couldn't have said it better! And I ditto, mrdave's thought, too!

  • @Duesvinet What a gay comment.

  • @soixantecroissants Yeah, well it takes one to know one, doesn't it? You're the best argument why brothers and sisters shouldn't have kids.

  • @Duesvinet ...at any rate, I am convinced that He does not throw dice ;-)

  • uuugggghhhhhhh.... just not on youtube please

  • @Duesvinet Wait. Are you denying all of evolution because of his voice or saying his voice was just an exception to the rest of evolution?

  • when it's done right....Damn.

    Music can simply be transcendental.

  • I remember Bobby !

  • He died the same year :((((

  • Comment removed

  • So lovely :)

  • He must of been pretty sick when he performed this?

  • what could be sexier. beautiful velvet voice , gorgeous singer, that tight pants and open shirt to reveal some chest hair....he knew how to please...:)

  • Absolutely awesome.

  • Flute too! Thank you for posting, what a beautiful rendition. I love this song so much.

  • This has to be the best rendition of this awsome song.

Bobby Darin has the sound that just makes this song unforgetable.

    Love it.

  • Uma lenda! Adoro esta forma de cantar e, obviamente, muito mais este cantor. Tanks.

  • this true to what we like as music, and yes DINO,FRANK AND BOBBY were some of the best and still are

  • This is spine tingling ! What a wonderful version of a beautiful song.

  • nice

  • what an entertainer as well as a singer...

  • Brillant...

  • What a voice!

  • He was a reference.

  • This live version of Bobby Darin's great song is nice, but I recall a recorded studio version that was also very good. (I played the studio version on the air when I was a disc jockey back in the 1970's.) It has been a long time since I last heard the studio recording. It would be so nice if somebody with a large collection of vinly LPs and 45s could locate Bobby's studio recording of this great song and upload it. The studio recording had a very good musical "intro" leading in to the vocal.

  • @cooplag4927 don't buy it, this version is definitive

  • Bobby Darin makes my heart ache with his beautiful voice,,,,,Love him!

  • Bobby Darin had a sweet looking ass! Take a gander @ 0:30...Mmm nice!

  • I remember this performance when it aired..I was little but I still liked it.

  • 35 people are DEAF!!!!

  • His vocal phrasing is unique and wonderful.

  • the four necessities of life food, water, air, and bobby darn

  • utterly amazing!!

  • Yes he did die much too young. He never sang a bad song. Sandra Dee married him and almost die herself when he died.

  • Such an immortal artist for one who died too young

  • No doubt an awesome talent & great song, but I've heard a few live versions belted out by Steve M. that are just soul shredders-another gone too young!

  • It doesn't get any better than this. I know he was short and balding, but he was still so sexy!

  • @sandyb49 ha ha totally agree

  • I'm sure the people who do not like Bobbys songs are probably great fans of the Band called, dope and crack,or was it, I'm a douchebag type of guy...your address is very revealing, Pasta--Pot-ify...you need to go Kiss your mirrow some more tonight...

  • Such a pleasant series of posts in honor of a really great singer...why do you feel you have to be a cretin and sully the content with inadequate and classless vocabulary?

  • if i were a carpenter and you were a douchebag

  • What a great performance, one of his best songs.

  • This gives me goosebumps... how intense!

  • My gosh, a perfect song sung with a perfect voice. What a great singer he was. Kudos to Tim Hardin for this lovely song.

  • how can anyone dislike this

  • I remember playing this 45...over and over and over and over and over.....I think you get the picture. Love you Bobby.

  • Bobby you were lovely :-)

  • Had he lived, he would have been rated as the greatest talent of the century... as he was,,,, a great singer, a great actor, a great comedian, just a great guy.

  • @blue moon, horagood...EXACTLY!!! I'm a musician.....40 yrs or soo.....notice the bass line is so simple.....yet he changes it w/ 3rds &octave double hits while riding the tonic note. Do you think he did the tear drying move on purpose? I do. Love this version.

  • @RJNStudios

The tear thing? The ears here what the eyes see..

I've only got 30 years under by belt.. what gets me about this version is

the decades of effort involved (unbeknownst to most) in keeping it "simple"

  • @hooragood Excellent comment, about keeping it simple. Simplicity is the key to fine art...as well as good music. There's something about this particular performance that keeps me playing it again and again.

If you've ever wondered what love REALLY is, just listen to this song and imagine the sharing of minds between two people planning a life together. It is not a trivial matter. Think carefully when answering the questions this song asks.

  • So nice. Listen to it over and over. Starting to feel pretty old now, depressed and all alone....sigh....but if i were a carpenter...

  • This tune with Bobby. It goes right down my spine every time i hear it !! A nice song, but Bobby make it better.A big minus today without Bobby..

  • And he was an awesome songwriter (Dream Lover, Splish Splash-written on a challenge to write a song with that title, & others. He died too soon.

  • 21 year old here

Born in the wrong time period

    Lady Gaga? Fucking die.

  • you cannot argue over taste but why 34 people would press the dislike button is beyond me...

  • The guitar arrangement in this performance is the best version Ive ever heard

  • @1988bluemoon

The whole dynamics and buildup of the song is stellar..

The funky bass on the "if i worked my hands in wood" verse is so understated but bloody brilliant,

the band are so tight not a superflous note in the whole arrangement.

  • Im not against music, i just know the power it has, over man. So it should always be spontaneous, or it will be deceptive. Was christ like a woman? What they can fathom. Beware the man with three staves, he could not father a people.

  • Wow. This is even better than the original record. Thanks for this.

  • I cannot stand this song. This is the first time I have ever heard Bobby D. Sing it and I was mesmerized. He was so damn talented! This is one of my faves

  • @kimmieanne1... real class.. for all that knowledge on the car crash you must have been the pivot man.

  • I'm new to his music. he was a POWERHOUSE SINGER !!!!

  • Comment removed

  • 34 people must be sitting on their ears...

  • @Whoopsiegirl 38 people must be sitting on their ears... ; )

  • @Whoopsiegirl yes shit for ears and shit for brains....Ass

    holes

  • i heard he died in a car accident on the 405 in LA

  • @busterbone He died after open-heart surgery...

  • @kimmieanne1 was the heart surgery after the car accident or before or what? i'm confused

  • @busterbone After failing to take medication to protect his heart before a dental visit, he developed blood poisoning. This weakened his body and badly affected one of his heart valves. On December 11, Darin entered Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for surgery to repair two artificial heart valves he had received in the previous heart operation back in January 1971. On December 19, a five-man surgical team worked for over six hours to repair Darin's damaged heart. Died 12/20/73

  • @kimmieanne1 oh yeah i confused him with Harry Chapin that died in a car accident on Long Island, NY Expressway 1981.i think-also Jim Croce died in a plane accident in 1973

  • @busterbone I have never heard or read about car crash...sorry

  • Been a fan for a while....wonderful voice!

  • im getting married next year, im a carpenter and im marrying a lady.

  • This blows me away! Wow, the vocals, so clean, so pure, so perfect!!

  • How fab was Darin?! Tim Hardin too. Thank you for posting :).

  • I married a carpenter 30 years ago, it's been a pleasure being his 'lady"

  • @kimkongaroo hope ill be as happy!!!

  • @jaydowdall All it takes is a healthy respect for the natural roles of man and woman. not all agree with my philosophy, but it has worked for us all these years. Good Luck! :)

  • JUSTTTTT FABULOUSSSSSS !! TEARSSSS

  • God bless his soul. A true Legend that will never go away from our music world!!!

  • not one song in the world more than this one speaks of true love. A man asking his woman he loves, if he was hardworking yet poor, would she still be with him, we she still love him

  • There is not one song that speaks of true love more than this one. A man asking his woman if she would be with him if he was hardworking yet poor, and not able to give her the things a young lady often likes such as a fancy dress, fancy shoes and other expensive things. Not that he is poor and lacking, but if he was, would she still be with him, would she still love him

  • This just may be the most awesome thing on the internet.......and I mean the entire internet.

  • I have watched and listerned to this nearly every night now for at least 4 weeks and it still sounds fantastic.

  • Did you notice, he never really says "baby" :)

  • yeah..yeah....yeahhhhhh

  • This was so awesome I'm afraid to click any other video.....

  • To hell with Frank Sinatra. BOBBY DARIN was the best singer ever!

  • I was born in 1960 and love this kind of music, The singers today can't and wont be able to touch the singers from that eara. Bobby Darrin, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr.

  • @deemdoyle1960 Nay. They were great singers, but they have no claim on singing ability today. Check out Matt Bellamy of Muse, or Chris Cornell, two current singers with unbelievable voices.

  • @deemdoyle1960 100% correct!

  • @deemdoyle1960

But then again NONE of the popular singers now-a-days don't even have voices! Everyone in my choir could beat out most of today's singers.

I was born in 1994, and I love this kind of music. There is still hope for some taste in music to continue into the future.

  • @deemdoyle1960 I like the rat pack too!

  • @deemdoyle1960 Right on. The ones you mentioned are some of the best ever.

  • @deemdoyle1960 I was born in 1994 and I agree with you. :)

  • @deemdoyle1960 I was born in 1974 and I know this is the most beautiful music I have ever listened to. John Denver also. Many other artists of this era were real and great. Now, it's all about IMAGE and nothing else. Let's get back to BASICS already!

  • @deemdoyle1960 I was born 1989 and I totally agree with you. Back then it took talent, charm, personality...today they have none of that...just studios and pathetic gimmicks

  • @ukLeeham720 man i totaly agree if we atleast had some of that in todays music artistis

  • Meadow Soprano is BANG TIDY!

this is the best version of this song, love the guitar arrangement.

  • Bobby Darin,A True musical Legend

  • Thank you so very much for posting this....... What an amazing performer and man !! Thanks again....... :)"

  • I have listerned to this song by Bobby so many times and am still so impressed with his voice, shame he left us so early.

  • how did he die?

  • @Peiazjaeh Bobby Darin died of Aids given to him by Paul Lynde and Charrles Nelson Riley.
