I love this video so much. Im 19, malay muslim, Im a non-hijab and from singapore. Thank you so much for spreading this good message in the politest/positive/and simply awesomest way ever! :D
Sister Nye, I am a revert to Islam, 2 years ago. I was inspired to wear hijab to my workplace. My life took a very terrible turn for the worse, as my employers were not supportive and forbade me to wear my hijab. Despite my legitimate protests, they found "performance issues" to justify my termination. I was devastated; jobless for 4 months. ALLAH SWT sustained me through it all. I have a good job now but still afraid. It takes time to heal. Thank you for your words of wisdom and understanding!
@rrbarrycrna It is really sad to hear something would happen at a work place just because of a Hijab :( I am so glad to hear your story got better and your healing will come along <3
As-salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh! I am also new to Islam. I loved this video and would love to invite you to a facebook group i created called "muslim women, no men allowed". the group is not large, b/c I just started it, but insha'Allah, it will grow. I would love and appreciate it if you join us! :-)
bravo nye. i left a facebook group just today because of the judgemental hate filled people. It is not for others to question our faith and call us sinners that will burn in hell. I wear hijab part of the time and openly admit that. I am conservative and covered but i do not often wear a headscarf except to pray, attend masjids or when my husband asks me to. this is a PERSONAL choice and they do not know how much it pushes people back from their faith.
I don't use hijab because i am a norwegian. And i think despite i am a ethnic norwegian, people are going to assume am from the middle east and that am a immagration. Inshallah Allah will give me strength someday.
@NorwegianMuslimGirl I say don't worry about what people will think. The people who already know and care for you will not think that you are from the middle east. I hope and will pray that your strength comes soon. I am contemplating wearing hijab too so I know how you feel <3
I wrote this before the school start, and i was daubting weather to wear or not wear hijab when the school starts. Thanks to Allah (sbwt) i chose to wear it, and i have never felt so confidence! And nothing is changed.. despite i got much questions from curious people and my friends, everyone seems to be excepting. It's so great to finally not be afraid of showing your identity <3
You're sooo right!! Also with the "reminder"!! That's like when people say "No offence, but you look like *#!?#" Just because you say "no offence" at the beginning doesn't mean you can say sth hurtful right after it and it'll be ok!! Or people who want to go on and on about criticising someone and start with "I'm not perfect, far from it. But..." What kind of humbleness is this? Thanks for this REAL reminder. Inshallah we will all work on ourselves this Ramadan. Amin.
"if someone corrects me about something, and I feel offended, then I have an EGO problem" Nouman Ali Khan.
JazakAllahou khairan sister, your words are full of wisdom and it was very well said. It really helped me. Remember, sisters., that we are wearing hijab to only please Allah. It is something that was commanded unto us, and therefore we should not act as if we did something extraordinary. We wouldn't praise ourselves for submitting our homework on time would we? :P lol
you are right, it drives me crazy too, and it is the "culture" sticking it's head into Islam that is well sufficient on it's on, but subhanaAllah some people want to point fingers to distract there own shortcomings
Sister Nye.. I am a wife, not yet a mother and i am a malaysian muslim-born muslimah.. I am so grateul for your info on Br. Nouman Ali Khan and I want to be your friend.. ;')) If that's not too much to ask for... Syukran Jaziran..
@noorelmie Come and join my FB page. I am on it more and more. I would love to be friends. :D Friendship is never to much to ask for. Its the easiest thing to give. :D
@IntlHijabiPosse alhamdulillah... tq so much for ur kind words... i joined ur fb page :) p/s: i really wish i have the opportunity to attend the bayyinah 10d course... syukran jaziran to u i knew about such programme :))
What a fantastic video sister, mashallah! Jazak Allah for reminding us that a scarf doesn't make a hijab. I have had so many people tell me that its so great that I wear a hijab as a new convert, but in my mind it doesnt matter because I am not always a good muslim (inshallah that will change with Allah's help). A scarf does not a 'good muslim' make, nor does an abaya for that matter.
SO TRUEE, this judgy culture that has built up makes me so angry when talking to other muslims. it makes me think about how as muslims we should always rememer that god is the only one who can judge and its sinfull so incinuate that we can even come close to that. i agree that everyone as an ego i find that the best way to get rid of it is ot remember your own mistakes i always helps me be less harsh on others :). inshallah we can all learn to judge others less :)
salaams nye, thank you so much for this video, you've hit the mark in so many ways. and thank you for reminding me about brother n.a. khan's video, i watched it several times the first time you mentioned it and thought it was amazing. but, the message started slipping away and i was starting to focus too much on what other people thought of me...ultimately that doesn't matter, only Allah (swt) can judge me and i should only be focused on pleasing Him. Thanks again nye :)
Hmm ..Islam to me not only praying ,fasting etc..but Islam also compassionate, praticising kindeness, respect and most of all accepting each other. everything we do in this world is for Allah. Hijab wearer or not Allah knows our heart and intentions. Life will be so much simpler if we just accept each other and support each other.
