I just want to say I really love this video. It's beautiful. I don't know how I described it earlier to make my comment offensive enough to get removed...but okay. o_O
Did Spector produce this one...He may be a crazy F%cker, but man he can produce a song.......double edged sword that he produced this..Nothing has topped it..
I think the point of the song is fairly obvious. It's about being a celebrity or public figure in general, and people talking about you. "I can still let it go, I can still learn to grow", is like saying "fuck it" when an article is published about you that isn't true. "You don't even know me, you all lie about me." Ect.
its a song about what the media say about the band /singer without knowing the facts as he does not say much to the media and they make shit up . its a british thing .
I really believe this has a lot to do with being introverted. In the beginning it is talking about others needing help( or saying they do), knowing you can help, but stepping back and being silent because that is who you are, then trying to justify it to yourself for not saying(doing) anything. It also talks about how others assume they know what you want/need even though they know nothing about you.
He actually only ended up producing 2 songs of this album. This one and White Dove. The sessions went badly, Spector proved difficult to work with, and he apparently wasn't happy with their drummer's drumming. . So they ended up getting other producers.
Yeah, I read that too, though these guys were pretty decent about the fact that they thought they and Spector were coming from different worlds. Ha ha did anyone see Vanity fair saying they were from Liverpool, doh. I'm still listening to the rest of their songs, I like them but this song really is my favourite so far.
Vanity fair should stay away from music. I ordered their new album so i'll give it a good listen when i get it, supposed to be very good. Silence is easy is my fav album from their other 3. I don't think they get the credit they deserve. Love this song!! So uplifting!!
Coldplay? Are you serious? Whoever said that please slap them round the face and proceed to slam their head onto a screwdriver. Theyre nothing alike. Starsailor dont strop their way through a song through moaning and whining. Their songs can also be told apart from each other, whilst a Coldplay album can be like listening to one long session of whats-his-face reading out numbers from the yellow pages.
Exactly! Chris Martin put's no soul into his singing, but maybe thats because he's got a shit load of money now, and gwyneth paltrow under his arms :D James Walsh will always put his heart and soul into a track, whether its in a studio, on stage, or just in local pub :D
one of the most soulfully painful songs i've ever heard. Uplifting and simultaneously depressing... and i mean that in the best possible sense. Beautiful
Your right about the accent, I never heard a song from the band until today and first thing I thought was, that must be a Manchester accent - Warrington, close enough!
James Walsh has one of the greatest voices in today's music, the Warringtonian accent works soo well in indie tracks, and only BIG things are gonna happen for this band from their next album on. They've always been left underated, maybe cos they emerged as a northern band with qualities of a lot of present indie music at the time, like Coldplay for example. Except Coldplay recieved more acclaim, maybe cos they were southern :D But yeah, Starsailor soo deserve to make it as big as Coldplay
true..they grab me as Tim Booth singer of James does... this song is sublime. I always like I've come home when I hear it......pure chocolate velvet x
one of his influences was jeff buckley, and he said that he loved how buckley sang with a ton of emotion on "grace". although i dont think anyone can sing with as much raw emotion as buckley, i still think that the emotion of this song would make jeff proud
This is such an amazing song! What happened to startsailor, are they still going? I saw them a few years ago when they were supporting U2 and they were fantastic!
These have got to be one of the most underrated bands around. Theyre absolutely superb live. Im Really looking forward to seeing them at the Wulfrun, in April.
The new album will hopefully get them the respect they deserve.
I saw them with The Police - I loved seeing The Police again after 30 years but after the concert it was Starsailor music I bought -even though I'd never heard of them before the concert
my sister was singing this song last week and i never knew it was by starsailor...i mean, i just know their song 'fall to the floor'....umm, this song ain't bad :)
guitarguy10000 you are totally right this isnt my favorite song, vbut it goes so well with the video, most of my favorite songs' videos make absolutely no sense at all with the song. good idea or point
Very nice to see a video presentation of this cool song. The soaring vocals and top-knotch production of Phil Spector really translates nicely together in fusion. Interestingly enough, I find that Phil's production work with Starsailor (here and "White Dove") is very reminiscent of his string/percussion work done on the Beatles' "Let It Be" album.
