I call religion that because it can cause a person to do some hurtful terrible things. So if you choose to continue your search be sure to pick your poison wisely. The sea of religion is mostly poison or undrinkable salt. But life giving water can be found if you search and pray for it.

The morality of the bible remains the same. It hasn't changed. Look at the way the Isrealites lived. Around them nations was using urine, excrement for medicines. First off, the bible hasnt remained the same. Its been revised, added to, and edited many times in its long history. I wouldn't call the isrealites moral with all the conquering of other nations because they worshiped other gods, the genocides, mass murders, slavery, etcetera. Science didnt exist before Pythagoras though. But science does change. Thats the whole point. We keep a hypothesis until the evidence we test it by shows it to be false. We then change our view of the world to fit the facts. The bible says that snakes dont have legs because one lied a long time ago. I wouldnt get my science there.

Science can't even "prove" the Global warming theory, among many other things, espaecially matters of the supernatural. The limitations of the philosophy of logical positivism, is that it relies soley on actual sense experiences.
Only math can be "proven". Science makes predictions that can be tested based on observation, and theories are revised to fit reality or thrown away. I'm afraid anthropogenic global warming is very real, although the severity, implications, and solutions are hotly debated. As for religion, the subject at hand, there is absolutely no reason for me to believe in any of them. You are right, I do not have any religious "faith". I need evidence and religion offers none.
Have you looked into the philosophy of Logical Positivism? I studies this in my PhD program and it was an interesting concept and very useful to anyone contemplating a career in the sciences (IMHO). Best course I ever had. Although, more like philosophy, the part about negative existential claims and positive universal claims was germaine to many arguments concerning metaphysics I faced. Positivists used mathematical logic to answer many questions. Dorky stuff, but I was hooked.

As for morality, we have concepts of individual human rights and social responsibilities that were unheard of for the vast majority of the life of our species. We sometimes still engage in hideous acts, but society as a whole has come to view slavery as immoral, we set ages for consent, we abhor torture and genocide, we even extend rights to other species.
I won't argue with an athiest, so we will have to disagree on the whole life after death thing. You can be nothing more than fertilizer for a tree in the rainforest, if you wish.

You're wrong on so many levels. For one, Christianity teaches peace. True christianity that is. Jesus taught peace and loving your neighbor. The age of men carrying out God's judgement and execution is over. Christ said so. Now true christians are waiting for judgement day. Maybe you should read about the string theory. Other realms exist. Life other than the physical form exist. Intelligences can observe us without our knowing it. We know nothing of these beings. There is more to existence than what can be seen with the physical eye. Why do I believe in God? Because he is as real to me as anything physical.

Evil people will use christianity or islam as an excuse to be evil. Good people will use chritianity and islam as an excuse to be good. Do not assume ill intention. I read the bible and the Quran when I was searching for the true religion years ago. My heart was open and I prayed fervently to know god every day and night. Years later I came to the conclusion that there was no evidence for any gods at all, and these texts were written by men. Men who were fallible. God is not evil, because he is fictional. But what men do with the stories they read often is evil. You cant just say that anyone who commits violence read it wrong!

First off, the bible hasnt remained the same. Its been revised, added to, and edited many times in its long history. I wouldn't call the isrealites moral with all the conquering of other nations because they worshiped other gods, the genocides, mass murders, slavery, etcetera. The idea of a spherical earth dates back to Pythagoras, around 570 BCE. You're right though, because people before then believed the earth was a flat circle. Science didnt exist before Pythagoras though. But science does change. Thats the whole point. We keep a hypothesis until the evidence we test it by shows it to be false. We then change our view of the world to fit the facts. The bible says that snakes dont have legs because one lied a long time ago. I wouldnt get my science there.

Only math can be "proven". Science makes predictions that can be tested based on observation, and theories are revised to fit reality or thrown away. I'm afraid anthropogenic global warming is very real, although the severity, implications, and solutions are hotly debated. As for religion, the subject at hand, there is absolutely no reason for me to believe in any of them. You are right, I do not have any religious "faith". I need evidence and religion offers none.

Have you looked into the philosophy of Logical Positivism? I studies this in my PhD program and it was an interesting concept and very useful to anyone contemplating a career in the sciences (IMHO). Best course I ever had. Although, more like philosophy, the part about negative existential claims and positive universal claims was germaine to many arguments concerning metaphysics I faced. Positivists used mathematical logic to answer many questions. Dorky stuff, but I was hooked.

As for morality, we have concepts of individual human rights and social responsibilities that were unheard of for the vast majority of the life of our species. We sometimes still engage in hideous acts, but society as a whole has come to view slavery as immoral, we set ages for consent, we abhor torture and genocide, we even extend rights to other species.

You say key words that sums up why its hard for you to grasp spiritual things. You say things like invisible, seen etc. This shows that your reliance on the physical keeps you from spiritual things. 85% of our universe is constructed of matter that is unseen to the eye. Its invisible. But yet it sustains your existence even though you have hardly any understanding of it. Cell phone use and other technology is a long way from healings and resurrections. The age of men carrying out God's judgement and execution is over. Christ said so. Now true christians are waiting for judgement day. Until then they are to put on the personality of love, joy and peace. No war. No killing, and no execution. Maybe you should read about the string theory. Other realms exist. Life other than the physical form exist. Intelligences can observe us without our knowing it. We know nothing of these beings. There is more to existence than what can be seen with the physical eye. Why do I believe in God? Because he is as real to me as anything physical.

Do not assume ill intention. I read the bible and the Quran when I was searching for the true religion years ago. My heart was open and I prayed fervently to know god every day and night. Years later I came to the conclusion that there was no evidence for any gods at all, and these texts were written by men. Men who were fallible. God is not evil, because he is fictional. But what men do with the stories they read often is evil. You cant just say that anyone who commits violence read it wrong!

Religion is a great thing when it helps people develop morals and live honest and noble lives. Believers of any faith should be proud in their beliefs, but also tolerant of the faith of others. Religion is a terrible thing when it promotes oppression and violence. I am agnostic, but I love Christians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims and others. I have good friends from all of these faiths.
