  • Love my sons!!

  • Billy Powell........God bless him, best honkytonk piano man ever!

  • remember this; there ain't nothing like it. never will be again.

  • @tmc515

The truth of your statement is gut wrenching.

Sometimes I think that I want to go off into the deepest darkest part of the swamp and never come out again. I don't fit at all into this world anymore.

  • @jamcrane3 I agree with your statement...but I would go to the mountains and carve their names in it for miles and miles...

  • gostei

  • Wonder why they have 2 vocal mics taped together? Is that a way of having stereo sound maybe? I have always liked this song.

  • @clewi1091 One for the live sound, one for the tape. Peace.

  • they came to UK to feck the world, and they did with that one show

  • Comment removed

  • One question.... did Allen ever hated Ed....just asking? Ed is the real thing on lead guitar except for Allen's Freebird solo.

  • This is the period when some members of this legendary band ganged on Ed King ..... so sorry then that I had to stop my allegiance to them cause' I missed Ed Kings guitar playing.......

  • hoklen farmer..im a big fan of skynyrd .ur not,his lil bro is carrying on the torch ,im sure ronnie would be proud of him,i saw them couple yrs ago in huntington wv.was a great show.so unless u know something i i dont STFU. ur snide remarks only prove ur not a fan but a critic.and who needs critics of great music.i suggest u have a drink or toke one ..something !! but chill out and listen next time u hear them they keep the band going and in the hearts of many new people

  • good song

  • Ronnie VanZant wrote,or assisted in writing over 230 songs in less than 4 years! If the "TICKS" in Ronnie's family had allowed his legacy to rest like his death, the real Lynyrd Skynyrd would have been inducted into the Hall of Fame with in a year after his death!Oct/19/1977 in Greenville SC I seen there last Concert just hours before the plane crash?Johnnie?I've been too one too many of your making money off a dead brother? It was terrible!

  • @holdenfarmer my friend. then you know how it feels. rvz died bringing us this awesome music. its beyond music. it shows the soul right through.

  • Reminds me of some great times!

  • Played this song so may time people started to think it was mine....and all I could do was smile......

  • I find that hard to believe that the talking heads got into the rock of roll hall of fame before Lynyrd Skynrd! Something truly wrong with that!

  • @strawser1977 That's the damn truth...

  • would like to hear the recored version of this song its a great song

  • @Shepardswatch the studio version is on the Gimme Back My Bullets album.

  • Weird ... they are actually playing live on TV? ;O You mean they aren't lip-synching - like Ashley Simpson on SNL?! Are you telling me they actually respect their fans and know how to play instruments? Are you telling me they actually write/wrote their own songs about their lives? You're telling me that the band crashed and the world lost another great talent(s)? Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd! One of the best!

  • @centuryboatfan to paraphrase Chris Rock, "*****, that's what you're supposed to do. What, you want a cookie?"

_However_, sometimes standards have fallen to the point that the expected becomes extraordinary.

I like some modern stuff actually, but yeah, hard to compare to original Skynyrd.

  • @KingAlanI there is no caparsin at all, skynyrd is one of a fucking kind, gift from the almighty

  • @rolesvill true, even with other classic bands it's hard to compare. however, centuryboatfan's comment (which I replied to) seemed to imply that most modern stuff is as bad as Ashlee Simpson. there's a lot of room between legends like Skynyrd and garbage like Ashlee, and a lot of good stuff to be found in that room.

  • @centuryboatfan I agree with everything but last 4 words. Ronnie and LS were and still are the best.

  • WOW!! Very KOOL!!~

  • LOVE THIS!!!

  • @MrMusicman1059 Alan Collins you mean, it would have been cool to see Albert Collins there though.

  • @Napco205

    Allen Collins, you mean. ;)

  • one of the best songs ever created.by the best band i ever heard.

  • touches ya heart

  • Can anybody tell me where i could get a copy of lynyrd skynrd live at knebworth 76.

    LONG LIVE ROCK 'N' ROLL

    LONG LIVE LYNYRD SKYNYRD

    LONG LIVE FREEBIRD

  • why argue just enjoy the best band in the world then and now

  • Grandes bandas, grandes clássicos o que aconteceu com a música de hoje? Não encontramos mais artístas como estes.

  • thanks for this classic clip from a truly great and classic band. Yes they are up there with the Stones, and Zeppelin. to the young guitarist despairing of playing meaning- ful gigs -"most of us can only hope to session on a Bieber record one day. It makes it so hollow." dont you know there is a great live festival scene going on all over the world? Heard of Dereck Trucks? Joe Bonamassa? Bob Brozman?

these people deliver where it counts.

  • My Grass Is Blue

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd.....Is the best !!!! And always will be in my book and many others....Just keep on rockin fella's......We love y'all

  • I lift a glass in honor of Ronnie, Steve, Cassie, Dean, Allen, Leon, Billy, and my best friend in the world, Mom........RIP..........We will be together soon.........Love you.....PS, Also the pilots that brought them to us and of course Leonard Skinner....

  • There have been a few Southern bands to follow in the tradition of the classic '70s Southern Rock bands, for example: The Black Crowes, Gov't. Mule, The Screaming Cheetah Wheelies and Brother Cane, to name a few. In the '70s you also had Elvin Bishop, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Mother's Finest, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Black Oak Arkansas, the Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Nantucket, Ram Jam, ZZ Top, the Allmans . . . too many to list here.

  • @elc1960 Let's not forget about BLACK OAK ARKANSAS

  • @rphwife I didn't forget them, Baby! Check my comment again, right between Ozark Mountain Daredevils and The Outlaws. You will see the immortal "Jim Dandy" Mangrum's band prominently listed there. To paraphrase Rowdy Roddy Piper: "I loves me some Southern Rock!" Cheers, kiddo!

  • Bring back old grey whistle test. Seriously. I am so sick of Nicki Minaj, Kanye, JLS and all this SHIT. This is my Dad's music, he started playing me this when I was about 6 or 7. I'm forever indebted, it's shaped my life.

  • @mollers92 Sad to say, but if you brought back Old Grey Whistle Test, you'd get nothing but Bieber, Gaga, Nicky Minaj, Kanye West and that shit. Better just to get the DVDs of the old performances and be happy with memories. From what I've seen of that show, during the early '80s all they had on there was Punk and New Wave like The Damned, Ultravox and A Flock of Seagulls. There was more variety in music at the time of this clip and it was reflected in the acts the show had in the '70s.

  • @elc1960 You may have a point, but I mean bring it back like it was then. There's so many good bands that go unearthed and we may never hear because they are not commercial and may take more than some spoon feeding for people to buy their records. Its a massive shame. I'm currently studying guitar at a music college, and within such a small pool of people there is so much talent, and yet I know most of us can only hope to session on a Bieber record one day. It makes it so hollow.

  • @mollers92 Wow, that was quick! (LOL) Best of luck in your studies, my friend. The modern music scene is too homogenized to support a show like that today; there's no variety in what's played in most outlets. That homogenization started in the very late '70s and continues unchecked to this day. Your remarks are very correct though. The industry keeps regurgitating the same stuff over and over, and sadly, the public is too ignorant to know the difference.

  • i'm british and absolutel love all skynryrd have done ronnie an johnnie rock

  • One of the greatest songs ever ! You have to listen to all Skynyrd songs to find any better...People said "Clapton is GOD"....Down south we feel the same way about Ronnie Van Zant..............

  • @pierce9638 RVZ is the god of the south

  • @esytle1 Down South, if you say anything bad about Ronnie Van Zant or Elvis Presley you just might get strung up!

  • ronnie was the greatest songwriter of all time.i cant even listen to this it hurts

  • wow Im 31 and have never heard this 1 Then again...I had my face in book most of the time so no wonder

  • I HATE WHEN SOME ONE ACTS LIKE THEY REALLY CARE AND WHEN YOU ASK FOR SOMETHING.THEY ACT LIKE THEY NEVER CARED ABOUT ANYTHING I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY AND YOU WONT BE MY FRIENDS i HAVE SPENT THE LAST DIME YOU WILLEVER GET

  • I HATE WHEN SOME ONE ACTS LIKE THEY REALLY CARE AND WHEN YOU ASK FOR SOMETHING.THEY ACT LIKE THEY NEVER CARED ABOUT ANYTHING

  • this song reminds me of why I loved Ronnie Van Zant

  • Amazing. So well done. 10 people without a clue!

  • Can you believe the talking heads got into the rock and roll hall of fame before Skynard? What the hell has happened

  • @kswet40 I can't believe it either, it just proves to you how much brains some people have.LONG LIVE RONNIE VAN ZANT AND SKYNYRD.

  • @kswet40

For starters, the R&R HOF is a freakin joke.

  • @tidefootball27 I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who feels like that! For the record, the only Southern bands in the Hall are Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Allman Bros., and Skynyrd. How could they justify putting Blondie in there? No Alice Cooper, no KISS, no Rush, no Deep Purple, no Journey, no Judas Priest, but they have Blondie? Sorry for ranting, but this topic gets me pissed off. Also for the record, Eddie Trunk of "That Metal Show" agrees with us.

  • @kswet40 look at it this way they saved the best for last

  • @kswet40 Talking Heads are alright, but the old Lynyrd Skynyrd were the best. They deserve there own Hall of Fame. Watch Knebworth 1976 and no one has any doubts.

  • @kswet40

The worlds all f'd up & The people runnin the show ~didn't live it They weren't there man.

People chasin after the wrong things ~~ no Peace & Love......

Only taking care of themselves ~~& even 2 the point of f'n up the future generations....

Listen to the kids of today & they'll tell ya whats wrong~~~ I just hope its not 2 late............... XO ~~~Patty

  • @kswet40 R n R HOF is a joke, it is a "club"... not a true place for the worthy. Not to mention they have to keep stringing out "top" acts to ensure each year has a headliner,

Some HOF ay? More like a HOmaking money.

  • @kswet40 Pretty damn pathetic i would say!!

  • @kswet40 ..and Foghat is not there yet...... ...are they?

  • @kswet40 POLITICAL CRAP!!!

  • man what times, music is nothing like it was back then!

  • God took Ronnie early so he could put him into his choir of angels along with all the other great singers that lost their lives at an early age. Imagine if Ronnie was still around they would have had made so many more great songs and rock would probley still be raw with emotion and alive today. R.I.P. Ronnie

  • Ronnie EVERYTHING you wrote "...has a good message to it", as you say.

  • @jtflyer

hey hi ronnie and allen wrote the song

  • hëhê_ÃNyõné_wÂNñÁ_chÂt_wìth_mÉ_ï_fêËl_sø_lÕñêlY_tÔDÀY■

  • They did run out of fuel. But on of the engines was burning more fuel than fuck and it ate up all the extra fuel. So they ran out and crashed. very sad RIP Ronnie Steve Cassie and Dean. LS will live forever.

  • nobody can replace this band one one the great's

  • Love LS, but this video suxor

  • The pilot actually lost an engine, shut it down properly, but like a dumbass in panick, dumped the fuel for the remaining(running)engine instead of the dead one. If he didn't make that stupid mistake, they'd all still be here.

  • They still LIVE,As long as we KEEP LISTENING..NEVER FORGOTTEN....Ronnie,Steve,Cassie,Mr.Dean Kilpatrick....!!!!!!!! <3

  • The more I look into it...why in the world didn't the pilot refuel??%@*!!

  • @IAMRUNESCAPER

"they" didn't run out of fuel.... the incompetent pilot ran the plane out of fuel and failed in his trust to safely trasnport them... Sad.

  • 9 dislike this. must have never heard it

  • @1bootboy Perhaps they heard the song and disliked it. Did that ever occur to you?

  • @medog2020 Perhaps they dont like good music. I'm not really sure why somebody would dislike this song or video

  • @MrGggguy Not everybody has the same taste in music. I would not expect a nigger such as yourself to understand such an easy concept.

  • @medog2020 Oh, did somebody forget to change their tampon this evening?

  • @MrGggguy Yes, you did. Laughing out loud!

  • rvz had so much soul. you can feel it pouring out, the real deal.

    great song.

  • So much ef-en talent......RESPECT.....

  • every mother shld hear this song! really hits home with me. awsome awsome song!

  • Awesome song that I can't believe didn't score a major hit. Rock on Allen. In the words of Gene Odem " Just a bunch of 20 somthing guys on the ride of a life time".

  • every time i listen to this song it brings chills up my spine skynard becomes a part of you. a way of life. its in your blood for all you southern fucks. and i mean that in a good way.

  • Wish they were still around. Nobody did it better.

  • Gawd the tone of Gary's les paul is soooo sweet!

  • the best damn band ever

  • Sooo Good!!!!

  • My soul is always touched by Skynyrd..

  • I hate how Skynyrd gets the stereotype for being the hillbilly rock band who only wrote Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird. They're actually much more diverse than you think.

  • @whiteliongate You're right. I think with the help of Youtube more people are seeing how great this band is. If you look at each individual member and get to know the music, you can't help but like them. Slow, fast, hard and soft, they can play it. Great lyrics, great piano and great guitar work.

  • Just a thought, does Powells piano playing sound like it might have had an influence on Bruce Hornsby? Thanks for posting these gems.

  • there is nothing that makes me infurated more than people that cant except the music for what it is. if you dont like it, you dont have to tell us. if you hate it so much why did you take the time to tell us. and to the people who still dont know, guns and roses didnt write knocking on heavens door....come on and you call yourselfs music fans. that was an epic written by the great bob dylan. for the rest of yall, long live the boys and southern rock.

  • well they were all great to bad tragedy had to come there way... rip allen he was awesome but they all played great wished they were here today..i dont think they were racists...at alll and yea u do have to know the meaning behind free bird not to many know the meaning behind alot of there songs and just want to run there mouths,,, do ur homework first before u run ur mouth about my boys...

  • @bmf276 Freebird is about Duane Allman...

  • @Jackalope40 It's not about Duane. It was written long before he passed. They just dedicated to him when they did it live.

  • RIP Ed, Ira, and Ethan. You will never be forgotten.

  • RIP MY FRIENDS

  • Love it! great song...

  • there are 8 idiots!

  • I grew up with these guys . They lived 2 house's down from me. I graduated with Jonny VanZant at Ed White High School in Jacksonville. His brother Donnie lived across the street. The sound man, Kevin Elson, had the Band House in his back yard. Before the name Lynard Skynard, they were called Nickles Alley and use to play in 5 points in Jacksonville Florida. Allen Collins lived 3 blocks from me. The night the Bird went down, I was with Kevin Elson's sister Lori, at the Blanding Blvd Drive in.

  • @TheChas112859 I was sittlng with my girlfriend on top of paris mountain,greenville,S.C. after the last concert at greenville memorial auditorium, when the anouncement was made about the plane crash. You cant imagine the shock. It was a sad time for everyone. After seeing skynyrd seven times I do believe that was the best performance.

  • @mamasboy815 Isn't it something that we can remember where we were when we heard the news of the plane crash. I was in college, sitting in the bedroom of my apartment listening to the local college station when they made the report. I still get a sick feeling in my stomach when I think about it.

  • @777notw Yeah it is.The worst thing is I had just left the concert just a few hours before.I guess at least I got to see it?

  • @777notw I wasn't alive to see them. :(

  • @YoGuy37 I never had the opportunity to see them live either. Thank goodness for the videos posted here on YouTube. It's not the same as being there, but it's as close as we will ever get. My hat's off to those posting the live footage. Skynyrd lives on!

  • @777notw I was in NJ 77 had tickets I still cry grown tuff ass like me They are the best Southern ROCK group ever no one comes close..

  • @Chaster064 They are indeed!

  • Hate them for making fun of Neil Young :(

  • @BluesYourAss Neil actually thought it was pretty cool that they made reference to him in Sweet Home Alabama, so if he wasn't offended, you shouldn't be either. The original Lynyrd Skynyrd was a great band, I saw them one time in 1976, they were the opening act for the Stills/Young Band tour which Neil blew out before they made it to Lakeland FL stop. Skynyrd rocked the roof off the Lakeland Civic Center - incredible show.

  • @dewibluey I was actually refering to this being a reaction or answer for two Neil Young Songs "Southern Man" and "Alabama", which dealt with issues of racism and slavery in the south. I know Lynyrd Skynyrd weren't racists so it's quite strange they sung this:

Well I heard mister Young sing about her

Well, I heard ole Neil put her down

Well, I hope Neil Young will remember

A Southern man don't need him around anyhow

  • i have upload the full film from the 1976 remaster widescreen :-))

  • they r the best.......

  • I'm not an american ... spent some time in America and after some time there i understood why Skynyrd is the best..... Montgomery ALABAMA ! ! ! !

  • I'm sorry,I love English Rock and have since the 60's. However as an American this is MY music, southern rock and always will be. Thanks for reading.

  • Skynyrd is every bit as good as the Stones, Who etc... maybe better because Skynyrd is REAL. AMERICAN. ROCK.

  • @Dunkzillaman same same but differant l;)

  • @Dunkzillaman COUPLE OF YEARS AGO Q104 RADIO UP HERE IN N.Y. DONE A SURVEY WITH ENGLAND THAT PITTED "STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN" AGAINST "FREEBIRD" FREEBIRD WON! ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC!

  • @ROBB21265 Both good songs,but both were way overplayed,agree?

  • @ROBB21265 When you say 'England' do you mean 'Britain' or just the English part of Britain ?

  • @ROBB21265 This and this is the best

  • @ROBB21265 stairway to heaven is made in a fucking studio, now i used to be a zep fan, but they suck live, nothing like skynyrd , skynyrd is the only band worth listening too

  • @rolesvill Led Zeppelin was one of the greatest live bands ever? So was Skynyrd..

  • @grimmznet nah, robert plant is a gayboy

    sorry

their music is only good cause it auto tuned,

    sorry

  • @rolesvill lol you must be 15

  • @grimmznet doesnt matter how old i am.

ronnie van zant and allen collins. steve gaines. gary rossington. leon wilkenson.

they are the only people who mean anything to me.

so im 15 but my hero's are genuine

  • @rolesvill and thats more than you can say buddy.

  • @rolesvill I seen them all in the 70's zep was better live than in the studio

  • @Dunkzillaman So you base musical talent on being American? That seems slightly xenophobic.

  • @Dunkzillaman

... and a hell of a lot less metrosexual. :P

  • @LittleMsChachi -_- Random Comment

  • @Dunkzillaman FAIL! The Stones and The Who are BRITTISH!

  • @sebasredspecialfan led zepplin is british band dude they are gud too...

  • really great

  • All Ronnie wanted was a new truck and to catch a 10lb Black Bass and he got both before he went off into the wild blue yonder. Wishes come true. R-I-P to them all.

  • Thanks For Your Songs To make This World make Smile

  • All 3 was better than each other in their own styles but Ed King couldn't tune Gary' s gutiar

  • I'm from the UK and believe British rock is the best (Led Zep, Sabbath, Stones, Floyd, Beatles etc etc.)... but THIS almost equals it.

  • @mycal64 Skynyrd was Awesome! I am a huge Zepplin fan.. But Synyrd was so talented with out the degree's..... Give it up for all the music that blessed us thru the 60's, 70's and 80's!!! I went Van Halen after that and then Pantera, Metallica... Guess I was tryin to hang on to my youth...... Love music...

  • Allen was a better guitar player than rossington, so was ed king and steve gains.

  • @inyofacepriklips who cares who was better playing the guitar... the important thing about their music is how they all play toghether in the band... allen, gary, ed and steve were all genius playing the guitar

  • @Groooveboy just want them to get their due, everybodys always talking rossington cause he's the only one left.

yes they were great as group of players as well as a band/whole

  • @inyofacepriklips my personally favourite guitar player and idol is Allen Collins but I never care who is better or not... just take the things how they are and enjoy the great music they let us back in these days...

  • @inyofacepriklips Skynyrd played at my high school's breakfast club and the Jax beach coliseum for 1 dollar!

  • @francostorm killer!

  • at 1: oo allen bumps ronnie in the head with his guitar .

  • Ronnie died the day after my birthday almost 20 years before my time, but I still consider him one of my personal heros. I have grown up on Lynyrd Skynyrd's music. I love them. The music world lost a valuable family member when they lost Ronnie. I know that he will never be forgotten. RIP Ronnie

  • Damn, I miss THIS band so much.

  • Part 2

    Below was reply to daffaras.

Artimus Pyle (LS Drummer) who survived the crash currently is part of an excellent All-Star LS Tribute Band, “Southern Rock’s Finest.” I highly recommend anyone who has a chance seeing Southern Rock’s Finest to do so. See myspace for southernrocksfinest.

  • amo esta cancion! es bella!

  • Great song!!! Southern boys love their mama's and us Southern girls love our daddys!! & wild eyed southen boys lol ;)

  • somebody told me that the lead singer died in young age...is it truth?

  • Yes. That would be Ronnie Van Zandt in an Oct 20, 77 plane crash.

    See Wikipedia's article on Lynyrd_Skynyrd.

  • @daffaras he PASSED AWAY when he was 29 on oct 20th 1977 in a plane crash in mississippi (he didnt DIE, he is still very much alive in everyones soul)

    LONG LIVE FREEBIRD

    LONG LIVE ROCK 'N' ROLL
