  • This is way better than I thought it was going to be when I clicked on it. Quite nice!

  • Wonderful...!!!

  • still not as good as the original

  • @1973nitram Oh.....sadly, how right you are.

Of several I've heard, this interpretation comes closet to being anything at all - but, for me, that still put's it a millions miles away from Sill.

These covers, every one of them, just end up being reminders of just how accomplished and unique Sill really was. It's almost cruel...

But it is so great that Sill has a place in the consciousness of some young artists.

All this time after, with the World as it is? That's just plain amazing.

  • This is so good! ;G

  • bothersome mannerist singing. abuse, no respect

  • Is this the same girl who did the Leonard Cohen song?

  • I'm amazed that Sarah McLachlan hasn't covered this song.

She has the perfect voice for it.

  • @taildragger51 That's a brilliant idea. Youre right, she has the ideal voice. Don't suppose she ever will though. I still think the best version is the original, Judee Sill. You can hear the emotion.

  • I like this stripped down version. It sounds more yearning and vulnerable. She has a gorgeous voice!

  • wargrave232 is so right. i love frida's other stuff, but it's almost like she didn't take the time to figure out the song's real chords...judee used a lot of chords in inversion and things that are hard to work out by ear.

  • mymokshashocksya: I agree with you entirely. I recall Judee Sill's very emotional version from 1971 and the song speaks of her tragic, violent and abusive life which led to prostitution, robbery & heroin. Judee lived the words right to her death in 1979. This is a lovely version and Frida's voice is great but you are so right about the chords & added bass notes Judee put in. Judee's chords & timing are very hard to duplicate.

  • I don't understand why she removed all the great chords and added her own boring ones. Laura Michelle Kelly's cover is much better

  • who?????????

  • there are 2 good versions of this the hollies and this

  • I heard the Judee Sill original when I was young and it has haunted me since. It was moving to hear such a sensitive and delicate rendition. This lady has a fine voice.

  • Why on earth you were given negative feedback for that comment escapes me, you're right.

  • pinchmelmnotdreaming: The original version has haunted me for decades. Judee sang it almost as a righteous cry for help for the angels to protect her. "bandit and a heartbreaker" must refer to her boyfriend who got her involved in drugs, robbery & vice. Judy Tzuke also did a nice version in the 70s but i admire Frida for shining the light on this very moving song.

  • wow, this is an amazing cover!
