Apparently, this version and all of the other versions (except the Hippie theme in the port of Mother 1 for the GBA) of the Hippie Battle theme were going to be used in Brawl, the song was unfortunately removed fro unknown reasons. Perhaps in favor for other songs. It's a shame, really....
The songs were also going to play in this order: Mother 1 (NES), Mother 2/Earthbound (SNES), and then Mother 2 (GBA Port).
The originals are better, but this ain't half bad. It's Mother music - how can it be bad? The effort they made to make it sound as authentic as possible was pretty darn good.
@eduardocool The GBA's speaker does a terrible job at playing all GBA remakes of SNES games, like with Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island before it.
@BlooMassacre Think of how little memory the GBA had. They crammed TWO games onto ONE cart. The music quality had to be a little lower so this could be pulled off.
@Brad64LP That's not a valid excuse. Mother 1+2 was on a 16 megabyte cartridge. Sure, it was using almost all of the 16 MBs, but around the time of the release, Nintendo was starting to produce 32 MB cartridges (and Mother 3 was on a 32MB cart). There's not really any reason for Nintendo to avoid using 32MB carts for this game...
@Brad64LP But even if they weren't able to get 32MB carts, they downgraded the first game's music also, which doesn't make sense considering that it was an NES game, meaning it should've taken up only kilobytes of space, or at the most 1MB.
@BlooMassacre Listen to the Eight Melodies from Mother in Mother 1 + 2. They completely remastered that. And think of how many tracks EB and Mother had altoghether.
@eduardocool Probably since the GBA has lower sound capabilities than the SNES, so a lot of the samples had to be turned into square wave samples. On the other hand, Mother 3's soundtrack was designed around these limitations, which is why it came out better.
It doesn't matter. This is a Japanese only game (Well, Mother 2/Earthbound wasn't, but Mother 1+2 was), meaning that it would have to be the original Japanese name which is Carefree Guy.
Sound likes a Mario Paint Composition

What's disappointing is, Mother 3 had a fantastic sounding OST. How did this come sound so bad in comparison to the originals?

The GBA doesn't have the same sound emulating capabilities, if I remember correctly.

brawldude23 1 year ago
@brawldude23 This version came out in 2003. Mother 3 came out in 2006.
Both were on the GBA. There's no reason for this to sound crappier than the SNES version.

No, just no. The Jealous Bass' song is a REMIX of the hippie battle. It's called "Rock and Roll (Spicy)." No really, just look it up on YouTube.
mudkipNDS 2 years ago 6
It's based off "Great Balls Of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis. The Hippie Battle is "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry
Also, I think I hear some phrases from "Wipeout" by the Surfaris in both songs.

Actually, since this is Japan only (MOther 1+2 on the DS, not Mother 2/Earthbound itself), it would be known as Carefree Guy Battle.
