  • Sound likes a Mario Paint Composition

  • Imagine how comboing to this on Mother 3 would be... Hard? Medium?

  • I think that this music is better on the gba.

  • Interesting fun fact:

Apparently, this version and all of the other versions (except the Hippie theme in the port of Mother 1 for the GBA) of the Hippie Battle theme were going to be used in Brawl, the song was unfortunately removed fro unknown reasons. Perhaps in favor for other songs. It's a shame, really....

The songs were also going to play in this order: Mother 1 (NES), Mother 2/Earthbound (SNES), and then Mother 2 (GBA Port).

  • this is one of my favourite songs in EarthBound and it sounds like a song that you might have heard before

  • @SuperFusion567 It's one of my favorite Mother song, too. I also like the Eight Melodies and Master Porky's theme.

  • 2 people need to take a chill pill, dude! Give peace a chance!

  • Again, Jonny B. Goode

  • FRANKY!!! FLY

  • This is the best version IMO, it sounds even better than EB's.

  • @TehLonelyGamer I agree.

  • Hippie was Enraged by the Stupidity of the Music!

    Offense Increased by OVER 9000!

  • Huh. The sound seems a bit distorted. But it was on a portable gaming console, so I guess that would make sense...

  • Go Johnny Go! Go!

Go Johnny! Go Go Go! XD

  • The Hippie USEd Bullhorn!

"Your mother is calling for you!"

But Ninten wasn't convinced at all. This made Ninten angry. Ninten's offense increased by 13.

  • 13 damage dealed to hippie!

New age retro hippie fell into rage!

    Offence incrased by 0!

  • The hippie used ruler!

Now, he can figure out the length of things easily.

  • Hmm, I think this sounds better than the original!

  • This sounds kinda cooler with a deaper pitch.

  • I really like how they recomposed it in G-Major.

  • For some reason,I kinda like this version better than SNES version...

    Mother for VC!

  • JOHNNY BE GOODE!!!!!!!!

  • They had to transpose all the music to different keys, either versions fine but I preffer the snes one, wich is different btw

  • The originals are better, but this ain't half bad. It's Mother music - how can it be bad? The effort they made to make it sound as authentic as possible was pretty darn good.

  • What's disappointing is, Mother 3 had a fantastic sounding OST. How did this come sound so bad in comparison to the originals?

  • The GBA doesn't have the same sound emulating capabilities, if I remember correctly.

  • Sounds cool in some songs though

  • @eduardocool i noticed that with megaman and bass, but i like the gba version of the music in mm&b.

  • @eduardocool probobly cause they had to sacrafice sound quality to fit both Mother 1 and 2

and from what i remeber mother 2 by it's self is way longer then mother 3

  • @eduardocool The GBA's speaker does a terrible job at playing all GBA remakes of SNES games, like with Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island before it.

  • @eduardocool Well, Mother 3 did come out about 15 YEARS later than the originals, by then there were more advances in technology.

  • @brawldude23 Derp.

He meant why does the music for Mother 1 + 2 which is on the GAMEBOY sound so bad compared to Mother 3 which is also on the GAMEBOY.

  • @Moonchipz Yes I do know that they were on the GAMEBOY

  • @brawldude23 This version came out in 2003. Mother 3 came out in 2006.

Both were on the GBA. There's no reason for this to sound crappier than the SNES version.

  • @BlooMassacre Think of how little memory the GBA had. They crammed TWO games onto ONE cart. The music quality had to be a little lower so this could be pulled off.

  • @Brad64LP That's not a valid excuse. Mother 1+2 was on a 16 megabyte cartridge. Sure, it was using almost all of the 16 MBs, but around the time of the release, Nintendo was starting to produce 32 MB cartridges (and Mother 3 was on a 32MB cart). There's not really any reason for Nintendo to avoid using 32MB carts for this game...

  • @BlooMassacre Ever stop to think "maybe the game started development before the 32MB carts were started being produced?"

  • @Brad64LP Ask yourself the same question with the first 32MB GBA game to come out, and you'll get the same answer.

  • @BlooMassacre It was RELEASED after they came out. That doesn't mean they didn't pester the fans by making them wait :U

  • @Brad64LP But even if they weren't able to get 32MB carts, they downgraded the first game's music also, which doesn't make sense considering that it was an NES game, meaning it should've taken up only kilobytes of space, or at the most 1MB.

  • @BlooMassacre Listen to the Eight Melodies from Mother in Mother 1 + 2. They completely remastered that. And think of how many tracks EB and Mother had altoghether.

  • Comment removed

  • @eduardocool Probably since the GBA has lower sound capabilities than the SNES, so a lot of the samples had to be turned into square wave samples. On the other hand, Mother 3's soundtrack was designed around these limitations, which is why it came out better.

  • If the game boy advance can make music as well as the zero series had then this is just nobody giving a fuck,

  • what? this is 1 of the best songs in mother...

  • This tuen should have been in SSBB... And Mother 3!

  • it is in mother 3

  • No it's not. And if it is, then where?

  • jealous bass. really it is.

  • It's not the same, even if it's "based" off of the same tune.

  • No, just no. The Jealous Bass' song is a REMIX of the hippie battle. It's called "Rock and Roll (Spicy)." No really, just look it up on YouTube.

  • It's based off "Great Balls Of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis. The Hippie Battle is "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry

Also, I think I hear some phrases from "Wipeout" by the Surfaris in both songs.

  • This was going to be in SSBB but it was cut out and is now a lost song.

  • Yeah, that's so sad. :(

  • 123 hp damge to hippie YOU WON

  • david used the bat.

    me:SMAAAASH!!

  • I'm sorry to pester you again punkrocket but could you post the original new age retro hippie from Mother?

  • It's ok. I'll add it soon.

  • I heard this on the what if songs from brawl and i finally got the answer

  • Actually, since this is Japan only (MOther 1+2 on the DS, not Mother 2/Earthbound itself), it would be known as Carefree Guy Battle.

  • Hippie is way better.

  • It doesn't matter. This is a Japanese only game (Well, Mother 2/Earthbound wasn't, but Mother 1+2 was), meaning that it would have to be the original Japanese name which is Carefree Guy.

  • I gotta say, I havent played Earthbound before but this music is one of the best pieces I have heard from Nintendo!

  • Thank whoever wrote Johnny be Good, its a remix of that song

  • Chuck Berry--thank Chuck Berry! :-)

  • Chuck Norris stopped being funny in mid 2007.

  • @Link4587452 ... Chuck Norris was funny once?

  • @Link4587452

Chuck Norris stopped being funny period. Never was.

  • @Link4587452 Just like RickRolling in 2008, but I still get a kick out of both of them.

  • @Link4587452 the only reason he stopped being funny was because people would abuse chuck norris jokes to the point where it just got annoying

that's the internet for ya, memes getting ruined by 8 year olds trying to be funny

  • like it
