I am 50, and while I remember seeing this as a child, it became more important to me when my sons were born in the late 80's and I knew that future Christmas' would include introducing the "new" generation to the timeless Rankin/Bass Christmas specials. Ah, the memories that these shows bring back.
so love this song. That clarinet that comes in 1:00 is just beautiful. This song brings me tears to my eyes , not just because of how beautiful the music is but the real meaning here is how sometimes the most precious things are the things we take for granted.
This really makes me appreciate the true meaning of family and money. Thanks so much for posting this! Such a beautiful tune, the true meaning of Christmas!!
Let us all take over Wall Street and infiltraye Goldman Sachs building! Everybody will have Christmas this year! To hell with the thugs that ripped us off!
wow this brings back memories. Been trying to find some of the old Christmas specials that used to air on, I believe it was Teletoon. Nostalgia. I remember sitting in the spare bedroom watching the entire series on the 14" TV.
Yes, he did. He played guitar, too. He's from the same area as my mom in southern Illinois. He was well known for playing and singing before he was known as an actor.
Burl ives is sorely missed. HE WAS SUCH A GREAT TALENT-ACTOR AND SINGER. Check out Disney's "Summer Magic" with Burl and Haley Mills.
"Elf"uses Leon Redbone as the snowman. Cute, but not quite the same.Ever notice that the elf costumes in the movie match the ones in "Rudolph"EXACTLY? Buddy's costume matches Herbie's. They borrowed so heavily, that I wonder if Rankin/Bass had to give them permission!
I'm 47 and still enjoy watching these classic Christmas shows, this one, Frosty the Snowman. Charlie Brown, Santa Claus is coming to town. It takes me back to bing a child loving these shows.
Yukon Cornelius, Rudolph, and Hermey searching for Silver and Gold..though really Rudolph and Hermey were just running away from Santa's shop (Rudolph hated being name-called, and Hermey hated being a toy maker).
@sks409 Thats funny, tell your 17 year old, that there is a former Correctional Officer who loves this,it takes me back to a time in front of a TV set with my whole family,a time when I thought the world was a good place to live and all people was good.
I am 52 and remember watching this the first year it came out (1964?) I remember watching it with my son when he was young. Some day I'll watch it with our grand kids. This is what it's all about.
I know what you mean jinxkies... My kids are the same, though they like it when they were small... But, this was and still is the best Xmas Toon ever made... Merry Christmas...
I wish every kid could appreciate these old cartoons,,,my kids could care less,,,but, growing up in the 70s Man,,this was and is awesome!!!!!!! I will always love these cartoons!!!!! I miss growing up with 3 channels and rabbit ears!!!

If you bought silver and gold when this video was posted in 2006, you would be having a Holly Jolly Christmas, this year!
