So if I do this with a S&W sigma and it shoots 500 rounds with marginally low error... what would that mean? I'm tempted. I mean don't get me wrong I like glock but its not like he undug it and stuck a mag in it. Thats wat I was expecting. I think its the Czech Police or one of those country's that have used the XD design for many years. It was proven good to them and Springfield just came along and bought the rights to make it. Its not quite the same as having a new gun thats truly unproven in real world situations.

Sorry but this test only proves you wasted your time. If a gun is buried with it's action closed and placed in the hole to minimize it's internals filling with dirt, it will simply be coated with dirt. As long as it's not exposed to air, corrosion will be minimal as you saw. The rust was superficial. They've uncovered wine in containers that were buried for thousands of years that was still good. The key to corrosion is oxidation - air.

@redlegagent Very true, though you can have dissimilar metal reactions that will cause corrosion as well. This can occur from minerals in the soil or any salts found in the soil.  The type of soil also makes a big difference. Sandy soil provides for better drainage than clay soil which will hold moisture better. There really isn't much on a Glock to corrode other than that spring.

Some guns I would not trust right out of the box such as Kimbers or pretty much and regular 1911 till I have shot it. I'm not bashing the 1911 when in fact I plan on getting a 4" SIG 1911 when I turn 21. 1911s are just easier for a factory to turn out a lemon than a Glock or any other equvilant poly pistol.
