  • Hi, do you heat your pond during the winter and at what temperature do you keep it at? or is there a correct temperature?

  • @Nsx25 Yes I do heat it , but not a lot now , I tend to put the covers on end of November (a polycarbon cover I made) then I set the heater at 40d. which will put them in to a dorment mood, so no feeding ,then in the Spring about mid March I will bring it back up to 50 , then hopefully the weather will then increase in temp. I start feeding again above 50d. high proteen food

  • @howarth004 Does the polycarbon traps in heat or blocks off the coldness? I'm just worried about not feeding Koi for 3-4 months. Do you think it will be fine if I use my heater and keep the temperature at 60 degrees?

  • @Nsx25 Yes it does both keeps the water heated longer, and stops the cold winds cooling quickly, if you keep the pond at 60d , you can feed all winter , but you electric bill will be high, 3 month`s without food is no problem and it makes them even better for the next season. I would bring it down to 40d, and leave them at that without food for the winter months

  • @howarth004 Yes I do not want a big bill coming my way... Maybe 50d is an okay temperature and just feed them one time per day. I will need to go do some calculations before beginning. thanks!

  • @Nsx25 That will be the best option , but price of electric these days ...for the cover i bought some polcarbon sheets and made a frame for each sheet 5 in all , so then it is easy to inspect and if warmer can take a couplke of sheets off.

  • @howarth004 Its crazy today the fish barely moved at 49 degrees, after warming it up to 60 degrees and 5 hrs later i fed them and the koi went crazy for food.

  • @Nsx25 You would have been better leaving it at 49d. it won`t do any good warming up so quickly they need a long time to adjust, there digestive system does not work properly and needs time.

  • @howarth004 Yea I am thinking about turning it down to 50d all winter long.. Feeding once a day should be fine.

  • @Nsx25 yes that should be O K , but just try 1 month no food and let it drop to 40, then you will see a big difference when they start feeding again, and the water is warmer

  • My gosh they are so adorable.

  • @emilyxdaniels Thanks they are sort of pets of mine

  • I never turn off my filter, even in winter. It don't matter what time of year it is, ur koi need filtered water all year round if they're to stay healthy. Howarth is right, u need to do a bit of research on ur chosen hobby.

  • @dazza944 Exactly, you must learn about the hobby before starting

  • @SuperQuickStick Just swill them out one at a time , and use your pond water to swill them with

  • @SuperQuickStick You should never do a 100% water change, and keep the pump gpoing , for your filter to work properly it takes time, the good bacteria builds up, and this would be lost if you change water and stop the pump, suggest you buy a good koi book.

  • @SuperQuickStick Could you not have just taken a couple of bucketfulls out of the pond to keep the water level down? Established fish get stressed if moved.....There are a couple of reasons as to why ur koi jumped out of the "bucket", 1: lack of oxygen. Did u have any airstones running? Its all well & good having a pump going, but did u know the biggest killer to Koi is lack of oxygen in the water.. 2: Bcos u put them in a new temporary home, they can get stressed (which can cause them to jump)

  • @dazza944 My answer also, they jump when stressed

  • @SuperQuickStick Hmmm, tricky one, ive never really had any major problems with my PH levels...yet. Tho im sure i will eventually. But personally, i wouldnt add chemicals, or baking soda to my pond. Your best bet is to try purchasing a PHion PH booster, or you can buy Alkalising PH drops to add to ur pond to raise PH levels. Maybe Howarth004 can better advise u on that one buddy.

  • Take howarth004s advice. U should not change 50% of ur water, because all ur doing is forcing ur ponds Eco system to start all over again. I only change around 25% of my water once every six to eight months if my ammonia is a bit high. By changing 50% of ur water, u run the risk of suffering a PH crash. Which is not good for fish.

  • @dazza944 Good advice...give it all time, only top up when you clean your filters

  • @SuperQuickStick iT IS A BIT LOW , BIT DRASTIC CHANGING 50% OF WATER, AS i SAID IT CAN TAKE 12 MONTHS FOR A POND AND FILTER TO ESTABLISH, YOU CAN ADD OYSTER SHELL IN YOU FILTER TO RAISE P H

  • @SuperQuickStick I guess the answer is yes, it is a decent growing rate. If its taken almost three months for ur fish to grow 1, 1/2 inches, & u consider that on average, it takes between 10 to 15 years for a koi to reach a good size (between two to three feet in length, depending on the conditions, feeding regime, heat source etc;) My biggest koi is about 15 ins long, ive had it for almost two years & it was about 9 inches when i bought it.

  • @SuperQuickStick Took me a while to tame mine , one way and only when the Temp is above 55d. tempt them with prawns by hand , (higher tep. so they can digest them ) when they get used to them they will bite your fingers off

  • @SuperQuickStick Ive just seen ur video. Nice fish mate, i noticed that ur koi look quite young, & its not uncommon for young koi to shy away for a while (& it does take time & patience to build up a "trust" with ur fish so that they see you as friend & not foe. Also, just by adding new fish to ur pond can also affect the behaviour of ur already established fish. It looks to me like ur fish are just a little shy, & are simply adjusting to a new envoirnment. It took mine a good 8 months to tame.

  • @SuperQuickStick Best way is take them out one at aa time, and fill a bucket with pond water , then put the filter sheet in and keep squeezing the dirt out , till it is clean

  • Theres nothing abnormal about fish gathered together on the bottom of ur pond...Its when fish start to isolate themselves from the rest when there could be something wrong. My best koi began to stay on his own earlier this year, he never came up to feed, just remained in the corner, always on its own. i netted it, & took it for a check over by a koi expert. He did a scrape, & it turned out the koi had flukes, which is a nasty skin condition for any fish. Everything is ok now after treatment

  • @dazza944 I agree , but Superquick needs confirmation......most have Flukes in early life and as you say can be treated.

  • @howarth004 yeah, & before i noticed the koi isolating itself, it would flash or flick its body under the water, quite reguarly & sometimes even jump across the surface of the pond. i was told many possibilities that could be causing this, some people said it could be low oxygen levels, this could have been the case for the fish jumping out of the water, but as for flicking & flashing, i knew it was something else. Glad i did something when i did. Thats a Gr8 pond u have there by the way fella.

  • @dazza944 Usually is a problem with parasites when they flick around, took one of mine to a Koi specialist years ago he did a scrape and put it under the magnifer , and I was amazed at the little beggers on there, but one of the parasite cures did the job within a week

  • @SuperQuickStick never, only if there is a problem, just clean my filters out once a week Twice at the height of summer, then just top the water level up with filtered water (I have a small filter for filering the tap water)

  • @SuperQuickStick Just be patient , as I said it can take 12 months for your filter to establish and get the water to what it should be.

  • @SuperQuickStick It can make your fish lethargic and poorly it then turns to Ammonia

  • Very Zen!

  • @ceahorse56 Thank you

  • @SuperQuickStick Probaly due to the colder weather, should stop feeding for a few days and seee how they go on, have you checked your Nitrite?

  • @SuperQuickStick PH is a scale on 0 to 14, with 7 being neutrel (safe)....If ur PH levels slowly rise from 7 towards 14, it becomes an acid...& if it goes the other way & drops below 7, it becomes alkaline. I tested my ponds PH yesterday & it read 8.5 (Which is still safe for fish) But i will have to keep check on it to make sure it doesnt get too high.

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperQuickStick your test show good, but your fish will slow down now the tep. has cooled, and your pond is revativly new, it takes up to 12 months for a pond to stabalise, as for parasite test you need to have a scrape done, but would advise this only if they are flicking and jumping which suggests parasites, best bet is to take one along to your Koi dealer for a scrape and he can diagnose with a magnifier.the other test you should do is for Nitrite which is an important one

  • That's sum good advice from Howarth004. I too stop feeding my fish once the water temperature gets too cold. Because the winter months is when ur fish's metabolism comes to a virtual stop, so they're unable to digest food as well as in the warmer months. One important bit of advice from me tho is, once u begin to feed ur fish in the spring, use manuca honey with the food. It helps to kick start the kois immune system, because after spending a couple of months in hibernation, they are more prone

  • @dazza944 good advice, I use Medicarp which has all the ingrediants in and it is high proteen

  • @howarth004 Yea, wot i normally do is use wheatgerm sticks, & dip them in the honey. The fish seem to love it. Or, i take a slice of bread (Brown, not white) & spread the honey over the bread & just toss it in the pond, & let the fish eat it.

  • @dazza944 brown bread is ok for them in summer , but not at lower temperatures as bread is harder to digest

  • @SuperQuickStick at 50 to 60 d they should be still swimming and eating, use protean food though in the winter, mine feed up to 50d, but here it gets down to 40 and below in the 3 worst months of winter . so no food below 50d. and when really cold they more or less sit dorment on the bottom , which will be the warmest place.

  • @SuperQuickStick i put a plastic cover over my pond when the weather gets really bad, like torrential rain, snow, etc:....See, i have a raised brick pond, & if we gets loads of rain, it fills up pretty quick cos i didnt install an overflow pipe. But its all part of maintainence i suppose. But i always keep the pond covered in the winter months because snow contains harmful acid & once melted, can cause potential health problems to ur fish.

  • @SuperQuickStick I leave it open , but when the severe cold comes i have a polycarbonate cover I use to cover it with, as long as you have an overflow pipe for excess water to drain away , no problem

  • @SuperQuickStick Leave it on all the time, fish don`t sleep they just rest ,

  • @SuperQuickStick Ideally, u should keep filtration, air stones, or any kind of circulation running at all times. especially if u have koi. I cant see how ur fish will get disturbed by a circulation pump, & fish dont actually sleep as such, they just become more relaxed in the dark, altho it is a fact that fish "hibernate" in the colder months, an act where their metabolism slows right down, & their digestive systems are a lot slower than in the warmer months.

  • @SuperQuickStick to keep ur pond base clean, they say always slope ur pond floor toward a bottom drain, which sits flush with the base in the centre of the pond. However, a lot of people, including myself dont like the hassel of a permanently fixed outlet that (if gets clogged with things such as blanketweed,) can be difficult to maintain. i have a 6000 pump that sits smack bang in the centre of my pond, & when i need to clean it, i just lift it out by the hose & give it a good seeing to lol

  • very good lookin fish u got there, can you tell me what kind of fish you have

  • @pgjcp They are a mixture of Japanese , and Israeli Koi Carp, thanks for your comment, will send a newer video

  • I love the small asian theme you have just to mach the fish, the pond is nice and big as well and you obviously care for the fish. Keep it up!

  • @QuinnyyMini Thanks for your comment , will send you a later video of the pond and garden .

  • how do you make koi tame? i have alot and they wont feed out of my hand

  • @kev37davies Best if you have a big Chagoi they are the easiest to tame as they are so gentle, but the big thing is patience, and tempting with treats, I used prawns , just a little at a time , then they go mad for them , this is when you hold them in the water with your hands and evetually they will feed from your hands. will send a later video showing this

    Dave

  • @howarth004 thanks for the advice :) i have gave my koi prawns in the past and just a few fed out of my hands, but... i bought silverback sturgeon as they are bottom feeders and then i dont need to use my vac plus they are nice fish, ever since i had sturgeon the koi seem to be shy, i feed my fish the same time day and in the evening, and my filters, pump's, air pump's, and heater are at perfect levels, just puzzled why the wont feed out my hand after years of experience and i still dont know,.

  • @kev37davies That sounds like the prblem , maybe the koi think if the Sturgeon can feed off the bottom why shouldn`t they, I know it takes time though , it does not happen overnight.

  • @kev37davies yea, like the fella says, its all down to patience. People have a theory that fish have a short memory, this is a load of crap bcos once ur koi have taken just one bite of food from ur hand, they will recognise the presence of ur hand every time u dip it in the water to feed them. mine used to be really shy too, but its now got to the stage where i cant even put my arm in the pond to do maintenence, cos the fish associate "Arm as food supplier" theyre like toothless piranha lol

  • is liner , big rocks and a pump enough 4 a pond ?

  • @ukurbanfarmer You need a liner , and a pump, but what are the rocks for? u just dig a big hole , put the liner in and then use the pump to ciculate the water through a filter system.

  • Love it!!!!

But do you not have problems with heron??

    Presumbly you cover the pond??

  • @dawmufc No problem in th e5 years I have had this pond with herons, but it is 5ft. deep and Herons usually like to stand in the water to catch fish. will send a newer video.

  • That's awesome. I want koi so bad <3 they're amazing fish

  • @ContracterYin I have kept them for about 20 years now, and they still entertain me.

  • @ContracterYin I have kept them for about 20 years now, and they still entertain me. Will send you a later one

  • thanks dave look forward to seeing the vids thanks, neil

  • howarth got my swimskim works very well building my pond now will post you pics when done had to hand dig it cannot get jcb in my garden hard work could only go 4 feet deep with a 5 feet hole in the middle but looks good ,working on filters next i will put fish in when ive done everything and know they can settle in damm the ground was hard, do you have a liner in or pond paint m8 enyway see ya do a vid on your filters plz

  • @stuartholly I use a Pond Liner , and like you mine was dug out by hand, but I cheated , paid a chap to do it, I will send you a vid which shows the filters#

    Dave

  • amazing

  • @archstud thank you , I have seen yours now and that is very good.

  • howarth is the swimskim 25 good, and what filter system and pumps are you using plz and is your pond in sunlight

  • @stuartholly The swimscim is very good , just need to clean the sponge daily (but not neccassary to use) I use the Aquamax pumps , for the pond I it is a 5500 and the small filter a 3500 they are very good , the main filter is a Clover leaf , but if you have the money I should go for the Evolution Aqua , they do a small one for a pond up to 2000 galls air pump the lot for just over £400. hope this helps

  • howarth how big is your pond i will be starting mine soon it will be 6 by 8 by 3 foot deep is this ok for 10 kio it will be run on 60 gal filter with jap matting uv oase 12000 to waterfall and skimmer thanks

  • @stuartholly Mine is 12ft. x 8ft. @ 5ft. deep I have 14 Koi which realy is 4 too many for the pond of that size now that they have grown, I would suggest you make yours at least 4ft. deep of water, and stick to about 8 koi , you need the deph for the winter, and when they grow 8 will fill that.

    Dave

  • @howarth004 thx for that after that information i think i will go 8 by 10 by 4 that is all i can fit in my garden that is a better size thankyou for that howarth.

  • @stuartholly Go as big as you can , I wish many a time that I had gone bigger, but you do need depth for winter and keep the Herons off your fish

  • you buy a pond net. It covers the whole pond and herons, cats are kept out and also it keep leaves and debry out which can pollute your prescious pond :( keep safe :)

  • @THE9LOL7ABLE Yes that is one way, but it does hide your pond a little

  • @howarth004 ahhh i suppose lovely pond though!!! wow lol awesome fishys too koi :)

  • @THE9LOL7ABLE THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMPLIMENT

  • @howarth004 hey your welcome ummm can u tell me what u feed em and when in like summer and winter and what media u use in the filter? plz? thnx.

  • @THE9LOL7ABLE I feed them on Medi Koi Carp food and in the hight of summer a treat with Purae, and brown bread with Honey on. In the filter I use Japanese Mating and the plastic granuels

  • how do u stop birds like herons getting your fish

  • @SAMscouse1 The water is 5ft. deep and normally Herons will only get the fish if they can walk in or reach over, so with that depth the fish can get out of the way, it has worked so far

  • iv just put a pond in garden but no were as nice as yours

  • @garyryanfleming Thaanks for the complement

  • Daves wife guards his and you wouldnt mess with Debs

  • @hawley00 You are so right there boyo, I darn`t

  • how deep is your pond? i am making my own..

    Many thanks magnus

  • @magnusrulz Hi Magnus , the pond is 5 ft. deep with 4.5 ft of water

  • @howarth004 nice pond and fish :o) , my friend has a similar sized pond, and had a dozen or so large koi to, until back end of last summer, police said theey couldnt prove it, and were almost laughing about it, the crazy women next door threw sterlising tablets ,a lot of them into my friends pond, she was in hospital at the time, and over a week or so ,all fish died ,i know what large koi cost ,it took years to get them that size ,she was heartbroken ,such a shame ,i do like your pond though

  • @TheMightOfTheEnglish THANKS wo betide anyone having a go at mine , cc tv machine guns in place???

  • Nice pond. Do you use a uv sterolizer?

  • @yournamehere954 Yes I have a U V , but I also have 2 filters working the pond

  • Love your pond. Sought of inspired me. What type of liner did you use, BUTYL or PVC.

  • @l1vefordaweekend it is butyl but as an after thought wish I had fibre glassed instead

  • Excellent beautiful koi and garden! Where did you buy your red wood design, very artistic design! I just started new koi pond in NY! Please see the link and any comment is welcome to improve! thanks

    NY TWINS KOI on yuotube

  • @nytwinskoi Thank you for your comment , the red wood designe fence I mad myself , just some 2" x 2" fatsned to-gether in the Chinese style then painted.

  • @BalooPokemon76 Thanks , it is one of my enjoyments , ponds and gardens

  • im just starting koi keeping, i havnt yet got a pond so iwas wandering wat size ur pond is? and how many koi u have in it? plz reply thnks

  • @KoiKeeping Hi There my pons is 12ft. x 8ft. and 5ft deep I have 14 Koi in there which is too many at the size they have grown to..probably 10 would be best.

Any info you require ask any time.

    Dave

  • do you have a uv sterilizer as a part of your system? just wondering becuse you water is pretty clear my pond would be green in 2 days if i didnt have a uv sterilizer on mine.

  • @jordan628trisha Yes I have a U V and 2 filter systems

  • A wonderful video - lovely fish, and so tame! I have been trying to keep koi, but sadly they keep dying - I believe my pond is too small to maintain a steady water quality. Do you mind me asking how many litres/american or imperial galloons yours is? Thanks!

  • @meady200 Glad you liked it , but that is an old one , my pond is 2000 gallons with a 4 chamber + vortex filter system , will send you a later vid

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Comment removed

  • When you dug the pond out what did you do with all the dirt?

  • @rtran1500 I put some on top of the soil in the top garden , then I had a skip which we filled twice , to take it away, ..hard work.

  • one word: AWESOME!!!

  • @9pipe2 Thanks , there is a later one under howarth004 ..fish and garden

  • Nice fish! The waterfall makes everything just perfect. (nice garden to by the way)

  • @stoneybelony thanks for your comment , that is an old one more up to date ones somwhere.

  • I like the waterfall on the pond, simply and functional.

Enjoy it in good health :)

  • @DrVelasco thanks for your comment

  • wow what kool pond, there needs to be some lily pads too.

  • @zzzthaoster Thanks for your comment....lily pads look good , but koi tend to pull the roots out

  • great pond and fish! theres nothing better than relaxing in the garden watching the fish on the top!

  • @teaandcrumpetsallday Thanks , yes i agree on a nice day can be relaxing

  • I LOVE THEM FISH PONDS, I HAVE A SMALL BACK YARD, I WILL START PLANING HOW TO BUILD ONE, ALL THESE VIDEOS ARE GREAT, NICE POND MR....

  • @joseph19699 Thanks for that joseph, no excuses get building, you will get great enjoyment from it.

  • You have an amazing yard

  • @dajoeng thank you very much for your comment

  • why don't you have any plants in the pond?it must make it easier to maintain but aren"t plants helpful in biological filtration?

  • @1badla Well for one thing t he pond is nearly 5 ft. deep and any Koi Carp keeper will tell you it would be a waste of time planting as they would be digging the plants out, and all you would get is plants floating on the top and been chewed to bits. I will admit they are nice to see in a pond., but not really in a Carp Pond , goldfish yes.

  • @howarth004 thanks, i wasn't aware carp would eat or tear up vegetation. i would of wasted money on plants and time to prop them up on bricks or rocks just to be disapointed. good info

  • @howarth004 yes i know that problem ive built a two stage pond one with all the fish in and one full of plants! pump the filtered water down through the plant pond and into the fish pond get some colour from the flowers and no fish digging about in the pots!

  • @browny25 That is one of the best idea`s , you also have a vegitation filter working.i would like to do the same but restricted with room.

  • Hey nice video I have koi fish but they are in a 38 gallon tank they are butterfly koi the most rare in japan they jump sometimes.

  • @FUNNEYBIRD Thanks for your comment , I have seen Butterfly carp they look good

  • Whats the dimentions of the pond please .. looking at setting one up this year .. cheers

  • This pond is approx 12ft x 8ft x 5ft deep

  • @howarth004 cheers..i'm looking at 11ft x 9 x 5 so its nice to see one a similar size ! yours looks like a liner, was thinking of fibre glass for mine :)

  • Yes it is a liner, they are pretty good these days, but fibre glass would be better, especially if you have a bottom drain.

  • yeah i'd be opting for a bottom drain....probably gravity fed system

  • wow.. nice!

  • Thanks for your comment

  • you have hidden your filter really well and the garden is great you must have put a lot of work into it ..i am afraid mine still looks a little like a building site after finishing the new pond late last year ..roll on the better weather :o)

    Max

  • Thanks for that, it took me about 2 years to get it as it is now, keep at it you will get there

  • Lovely pond and some nice koi too :o)

  • THANKS FOR THAT

  • Wonderful! We had a fish pond in our garden before we moved 5 years ago. It was hard to try and find homes for our fishy friends when we moved as the buyers werent interested.

  • Yes I had the same problem when I moved over here from Huddersfield, I had a pond there with 12 large Koi Carp, no one wanted to buy them, so I gave them away, but when I want new stock I always seem to have to pay top prices,. Thanks again Mike

  • What do you do in the winter do you cover it .And do you have a heater.i used to cover mine and put two fish tank heaters in the filter box and it just kept it around 55 degrees.

  • Yes I have some polycarbon sheets made up which I cover and a heater on to keep it at 50d.

  • Wonderful addition to an already lovely pond, the fish are outstanding.......GREAT WORK.......Have you got pond lights...see my nightime videos

  • Thanks for that comment I don`t have lights, but after seeing yours it will be one of my next considerations

  • The water fall looks better than before very nice.

  • Thanks , yes it has all come to-gether now next move will be???

  • love the pond... i have one just like it although mine is 12 foot by 6 foot by 4 foot deep. I am 12 years old and it is my own private pond in my garden. I built it myself and right now it has a 7 year old, 75cm snake koi that i have had for around a year but i am hoping to get some more when i get some more money. I will have to save up a lot though as i spent £350 on the snake koi!!

anyways how much did you spend on your koi and how big are they

  • well done building your own pond that size, mine is approx 12ft. x 8ft. x 5ft. deep and it was hard work , the koi are about 1ft the bigger ones and 8" the smaller ones I only started this pond 2 and a half years ago and the koi where about 1 year when i bought them some earlier than the others but I paid max. £75 and most bought small at £35-£50

  • woah ur pond is quite big i live with my parents and they have a 149 gallon pond with goldfish but soon when i buy my own house i am planning on building a pond like yours with koi in it roughly how much would u have spent of this

  • I would say it cost me a lot of hard work digging and building , then with filters and materials, some 2nd hand, about £2000

  • @howarth004 mine is about 22ft in length, 12ft wide and 8ft deep, boxshaped i'm holding about 10.000gallons in it. Currently it is inhabited by 14 koi, from 16' up to 31'

Over here koi start at $25 for small eurokoi to over $100.000 for adult size japanes show koi.

  • But I have to mention that the range that I buy my koi in is 16' and over and I pay between $200 and $2500 per koi. These are all Japanese imports from well-known koi-breeders. I also find myself in the lucky position that my wife is working for one of the biggest wholesalers for koi and Hardware here in europe. But most of my koi come from local koidealers up to a 100mi away.

  • @bjorngroen The fun part of this hobby is that you can make it as expensive as you want it to be. I like to make a lot of stuff myself for the pond, saving a lot of money, like making your own filter or design and build my own gardenhouse. I also recycled a lot from earlier ponds. Look under my name and see my pond.

  • @bjorngroen You have a nize sized pond there friend, wish I had those dimentions , mine is 12ft x 8ft and 5ft deep could do with being bigger as i have 14 carp in there , mostly Israeli as they are cheaper, but the colours are a lot better these days.

  • Very nice fella! Nicely lanscaped too.

  • Thanks for that, I liked your vid diving into the sand was that how you got your user name?????

  • Very nice fish and pond, well done

  • thank you, they seem happy enough

  • My pond has just been cleaned out and the fish just seem to sit at the bottom. Dont eat much. The have good colour and look healthy but just sit there like it is winter. There is no food on the bottom so they can be eating bugs. Please help looking at your pond you must know alot.

  • Could be a number of things, one if you just cleaned it did you filter the new water in? and also what temperature is the water now is it colder? i should leave the food out for two or three days and see if they come round when the water stabelises more

  • Thank you for your help

  • Thanks I stoped feeding them for 2 weeks and now there eating well and flashing around.

  • Glad to hear it, if you filter your water with a pre filter, and don`t change more than 20% at a time should be o. k.

  • how deep is the pond and how did you dig it (with a spade) thx

  • The pond is 5ft. deep which gives me 4.6ft. of water, and yes it was all done manually with a spade, but i will admit I hired a willing digger and after he said never again.

  • ola

  • Grazias ...or thank you

  • hi i wonder that what you use to build your pond !! can you send me an email that have a list of what you bought and how you set up the pond !! thz

  • you will have to put your e mail address down...but it is simple dig your hole , this being oblong , then build the sides with concrete blocks, then top dresing stones and a pond liner , inserted , and of course your filter system

  • love your pond and garden, and your koi are very tame never ceases to amaze me just how much they would eat given the chance!!!!

  • thanks , yes they are eating well now and the water is only 50d. when it gets up to 60d. I carn`t fill them.

  • Awsome! that is beautiful!

  • thank you for your comment

  • What are you feeding them things Howarth?? Probably the biggest I've ever seen!

  • medicarp its the best also dry silkworm, by the way these are still small, by the middle of this year probably put another 2-3 lbs on
