I didn't even know about the phrase ... "how's it hanging"

  • We're using these phrases daily. It would be useful if we practice more and more.

  • How's it hanging?? I didn't know this one.

    Thanks

    see ya!

  • I am going to appear for IELETS in a couple of week, if some one can help me improve speaking, can add me on skype. My ID is "Noman.fayaz" or can call me 03444952441

  • Thanks for the lesson :)

  • It would be far more productive to teach the basic phrases, How is it hanging is far too coloquial, and not a usefual expressions to teach beginners.

I was hoping you would have explained where the expression "

    see ya" originate.

As a teacher I find it mush more usefel to teacher the language in the standrad form, using formaland informal expressins. As the students advance they can learn the coloquial expressions, as they already have the background on which to associate these phrases

  • Hi, great lesson,much appreciated.John

  • I don't think in the USA that you want to say "how's it hanging" anymore. It suggests something inappropriate. The best thing to say is " How's it going?"

  • @silitamarie how is haging reminds me of those sagging pants. How is it hanging .

  • that wasa pointless and it sucked you missed something in the good bye part we also say bye and if we whant to funny or we plyin adios u need to learn i couple thing like how not to make a boreing ass video

    ?????

    whats the point?!?!?!?

  • while i was doing a comprehension there was this question i didnt understand please help me and tell me what it means asap the question is:

Is the authors purpose in writing this story to inform, to entertain, or both? How does the author achieve this purpose?

  • Maybe you should arrange your english grammar clearly Mr. $100? hahaha... Mr. James is a good teacher in ESL., and i've learned a lot because of his video. So im very thankful for that. You're doing a great job Mr. James. Keep it up! Cheers.

  • oh really? he's easy to understand..so hold your peace man!

  • You are the best English teacher. I am Brazilian, I have been in US for some years, but I was seeing I was forgeting English quicky, but now I can practice with your videos, and improve my English each day. Thank you very much for your generosity to teach us English free

  • Corrections:

I have been in the US for some years.

I (noticed/realized) that I was forgetting how to speak English quickly.

Thank you very much for your generosity to teach us English for free.

AND I AM THE BEST ENGLISH TEACHER NOT HIM. SIKE! LMAO

  • What does generous mean?

  • It means to give something, either something material or non material without expecting anything in return.

It's something you do to be a good person.

    Examples:

I give money to poor people.

I give love to mistreated animals.

In both cases you are being generous.

  • what about English greetings like....

    Morning

    alright

    watcha

    howdo

    yereet

    wayay man

  • alright, watcha, are not greeting forms, alright is used to say it's OK, and watcha is slang: (broken down) what are you?--> what you--> what ya--->whatcha. example: what are you doing? ---> whatcha doin?

howdo, yereet, wayway man, are not words or even slang. I have no idea where you heard that but it doesn't mean anything and nobody says that.

  • I'm American. I noticed that the host of the video has an accent. I'm not sure where he is from. But, he seems to be a native speaker of English.

  • he does have an accent, I don't know where he is from but I can assure you that he is not a native English speaker.

  • Thanks for commenting.

  • yes he is, knob.

  • NO, he is not, noob.

Native English speakers don't have such accent, trust me i know. how do i know? because it's not a Canadian, American, Australian or British accent. SIKE!!

  • lol. $100 he's canadian.

if you knew anything about accents you'd realise this.

you know countries all have more than 1 accent right?

and if you've ever done human biology you'd know that black people have slight difference in their vocal chords than white people (and the same with people of asian background)

but srsly dude. hes a native english speaker (Y)

  • i know all that, 100 bucks? fuck yeh i'm in, he is not is not a native English speaker, ask him and find out

  • he is great english teacher

  • thank you

    naeema

  • " for the left handed people"? correct : for left handed people Erika8156.

  • Erika 8156get yourself together: meaning stop reading more into the teacher's comments than is meant. There are a "myriad" of ways to say good bye in America, okay? chat lata!!

    Ciao!

    Adios

    Arrivederci

    see ya

    c-ya

    later

and so on and so forth. knock off the prejudice.

Have a nice day, from an immigrant who (emigrated ) here and speaks perfect English.

  • well... you should point out the following:

    Ciao! = Italian

    Adios = Spanish.

See ya (you) = American English

C-ya = mainly used when sending text messages or typing on the internet.

    Other ways to say goodbye:

See you around, i'll catch you later, See you soon, until next time, bye, see you later, i'll talk to you later.

  • First of all it's Ciao, not chao, secondly President Clinton and President Obama are left handed so that comment was --"asinine" definition: silly ; foolish and a little prejudice.

Prejudice: to prejudge without sufficient information.

  • Well actually chao not what I've written below.

I've always wondered isn't it too hard for the left handed people to write without seeing very good what they write because their hand hide it.

  • Erika: Here is your message typed in correctly:

Well, actually, Ciao isn't what I've written below.

I've always wondered if it's too hard for left handed people to see what they write because their left hand hides it.

  • Oh, but I forgot what my original message was :):):)

    But anyway, thank you!

  • Choa is how we say good bye.

I thought we could say just bye, hm!

  • good job!

  • I'm from New York and I speak Standard English (proper English). We do drop the "g" when saying how are you. We say, "how you doin". Obviously its slang and its very informal...but its commonly used.

  • I think the point is that in our manner of speaking, most commonly when that phrase is used, we drop the 'g' he even explains that to the viewer.

  • I am a brazilian and I think that was a Great video!! thank you

  • DO YOU WANT TO BE MY VIRTUAL TEACHER?

  • GOOD JOB HELLO I´M MEXICAN

  • How YOU doing James? It was a good one. Chow!
