agreeable opening, but certainly not exciting. But in light of what came after, seems better than I recall when it actually aired. GL had some great openings and themes, but for me they remain in the 1980-91 period. Anyone ever hear the Robert Flack/Donnie Hathway vocals to the 90's theme (the "Harley Dancing" one--lol)? Well, THAT done over a montage of cast pics might have surpassed them all. It was classy and nice--could have seen it being an actual hit Adult Contemporary song.
Unveiled circa GL's 50th anniversary on television, this agreeable opening probably deserved a longer run. Presenting characters pictorially in clusters conveyed a vague semblance of order and definition even as stories collapsed into entropy.
I loved this opening. I like the way it changes every now and then. The current opening is nothing like those of the past, but I'm guessing it was more important to include the words of the past than put so much into how it would look. They could have done a bit more, but may have decided to keep it simple.
I'm praying and hoping that GL will bring back the November, 2005 cast montage opening by December. GL update the cast shots, and add the performer's names. GL go back to its original title "The Guiding Light".
What is happening to this show? This was by far the best opening GL had. I wish they would get back to this opening insead of "family...destiny....light...hope....BORING"
I hope GL can save themselves cause it's terrible right now
The Guiding Light is 70 years ago,but it didn't came on television first it airs on the radio it used to last last 15 to 20 minutes. The Guiding Light first begin in 1937
I agree with you on the current 70th anniversary opening, Zardoz99. I don't like it either, and I wish they'd just dump it already.
If anything, I'd like to see them go back to the previous 2005-2007 opening, or introducing a new opening. I'm also missing the cast headshots and the lighthouse.
This anniversary opening is going to be used until at least the last week in December of this year, it's used for the 70th anniversary. The show can't be 70 years old forever so eventually it must end. The regular 2005 opening should return either in December or January of course updated.
The last week of December you say? The executives there may want to be careful as history has a way of repeating itself.. Anyone that watched "Edge Of Night" till the end knows what I mean..
I was not a fan of this opening. It annoyed me from its first airing.
First, it sounds like a herd of elephants roaring. Then it looks like a bunch of twirling LifeSavers spinning around with the residents of Springfield trapped inside.
I really liked this one the best. I wish they had kept it. I never really liked the 2003-2005 opening... I personally got tired of the 1991-2002 opening. The 2005-2007 opening was okay, but I'm getting tired of the current "Find Your Light" opening.
I too got tired of the 91-02 open, and was horrible EP Paul Ranch slashed it down to five or ten seconds--and it took them about five years after that to get a fresh new intro.
i agree, stiffkids2006. i was sick of that opening too, especially when they cut in down to 14 seconds. that was so horrible. that was a time when all that main credits left: roger, bridget, marcus, david and many more
worse theme in GL history.

This opening should have lasted longer. It was a mistake to change it in 2003.

GL's February 2003-November 2005 open was THE worst soap opening ever! Not counting the theme song, just the visuals.
