@kassasin Matt did sing this on AI and, inconceivably, actually left the show that week. This is truly a master performance, IMO. Matt was under-appreciated on AI, but opened a lot of eyes on the summer tour. Great entertainer! He will always be my personal choice as one of the most talented contestants to grace the AI stage. Season 8 is considered by most to be the best season ever, and I personally think Matt was the best of the best. His EP is coming out soon, and I can't wait!

Matt is the most soulful performer to perform on American Idol. His singing is straight from the heart. I have researched "My Funny Valentine" and his rendition is the best with the exception of Chet Baker and there has been over 60 performers that have sang this song. GOOD JOB MATT and I pray your career is a resounding success. Stay away from those drugs that plagued so many inspiring musicians, including Chet.

Just so there's no more confusion..... it's from the musical "Babes in Arms", which was popular in the late 1930's. Written by Richard Rodgers (music) and Lorenz Hart (lyrics)-a team who wrote a few hundred pieces that became jazz standards. Although Chet Baker was not the first to perform this as a pop song, he was the first to perform it as a pop song with much success. This is a very nice performance. His voice is incredible, so much better than the other contestants and so versatile. Check out his pre-idol cd Mind Body and Soul at Amazon and search for First Impressions Giraud Mattei Project an early indication of Matts versatility, I guess he made it some years ago but its kind of infectious !!
