Certainly doesn't look like Lyman to me. Lyman wished he looked that good. I'm not sure that this is Lyman's band doesn't sound like it probably the studio orchestra. Lyman's was the band in the "Doin' The Uptown Lowdown" though.
phreddie, you could be right. I'll have to review some of his old clips. Wouldn't be the first time movie violinists played fiddles with rubber strings!
Wonderful clip from a film produced by Walter Winchell. Abe Lyman next to the post waving his brushes over his head to steal this wonderful shot of Russ. Dating or perhaps engaged to Carole Lombard at this time. His mother was never told her son died. Phoney letters, news clips and calls to her until she died in 1942. His violin backed Bing Crosby when he was at the Cocoanut Grove. Had he lived, would have possibly passes Crosby in popularity.
I've heard of Russ Columbo before, but never saw him until now...I can see why he was so popular back then...he had that movie-star-charisma thing going for him...and a great voice besides.
That's not Texas Guinan. That's Blossom Seeley.
