Dynamite cast in this scene: Barbara Stanwyck, Barry Sullivan & Dean Jagger! I've only seen this shown on TV once...and that was years ago on local TV as part of a "classic movie" series on our PBS affiliate. The director (the late great Samuel Fuller) always knew how to keep an audience's attention through intriguing camera shots & eccentric characters. THANKS for posting this! :)
Imagine the audience of the time jumping in their seats at 1:31 !! Fuller sure knew how to shock an audience ! (and all in one take, by the way ... Scene goes on much longer than this, and after Stanwick makes asshole Logan understand that she chooses Griff (Barry Sullivan) over him, she writes him a check (!!) (for his "services") and he's so humiliated that he goes into the other room and, in typical Fuller outrageousness, actually HANGS HIMSELF !! (all in one shot, folks !) BRILLIANT !
Notice how Fuller uses camera movement rather than cutting in this long-take scene. Some--in the (relatively) early days of wide-screen--felt quick-cutting was too "jarring" to the spectator. Regardless, this is visually quite compelling.
I wish I owned Sam Fuller's last cigar.
