i'm a bit of a songwriter myself. Listening to this, I know a way you could make the chorus much better. Try singing the vocals an octave up. It adds more contrast between the verse and chorus and brings more intensity.

its mostly just personal preference, go with the one u like more. if you use fingers you may be able to jump around from one string to the other a lot faster. sometimes picks can give you a bit more of a "clicky" sound, where as your fingers are softer and tend to be a lot quieter.
