i think that maybe a kingdom hearts style of gameplay could fit well in this game, maybe more exploration between villages and worlds, it's my opinion, by the way props to the guys that were doing the resurrection of this awesome classic

@strix50 Nowhere. Square Enix issued a cease and desist to the creators of this game and they had to stop making it. It was almost finished at that point, but they still never did get the chance to release it.

@dogzclub595 The guy who did the character design for Chrono Trigger is the same guy who did the artwork for Dragon Ball Z. If they didn't look like DBZ characters then the maker of this would have to make the characters look different then they're supposed to.

They should have adjusted their work to turn it into a Parody instead of a remake after the project got shut down. International Copyright law includes special exceptions for Parodies. And games in general are only copyrighted at the level of names and graphics. Since all the graphics are obviously new, the names could still be used if some aspect of the way it was put together made fun of the original in some way. Then it would be legal to release no matter what the scary lawyers think to say.

We've been dying for a chrono trigger remake on PS3 or something but it's doubtful it will ever happen. Die hard old school 27 year old fans like me weep at that hehe.
I think you should give it a chance. Most of the game is pretty much unrelated to CT, but near the end, the story really picks up and there are a few twists as well. It has a pretty unique battle system too.

I believe they just wanted to see this awesome game in 3D but sadly as we all know square enix has a very long pole stuck up inside a dark area. Which is why even their new FFXIV sucks hard-core. Hell they rejected the remake of FFVII (although i believe it is in the process of a remake as of now thx to a special someone), what would make you think they would allow this. Wish they did though.

I have to agree with the majority of the people that commented. Square Enix shut down something that could've been great. The flip side is that they were making a game whose brand is under SE's licensing, hence the Cease and Desist order. Not only that, Square tried to bring Chrono Trigger to this generation's audiences on the Nintendo DS, which is another probable reason why they shut them down.
It's a shame they got shut down though. This idea had potential, a whole lot of it.
Why didn't Square Enix just decide to team up with these guys? They wouldn't have to spend millions to make it since it's already being done by fans, and they roll in billions off the sales in pure profit. Not to mention it would rekindle the series, and it would be stronger than ever.
Whoever is managing Square Enix's business affairs is a complete failure at his job.

Also a million copies does sound like a nice number but Im sure they are hoping to sell about 15 million (about as much as modern warfare ) in the US alone. If they release it prematurely and it flops (meaning only die hard fans buy it) they waste thier trump game. Which could put the series again in time freeze. So they are simpley holding off on the game til the "recession" and statistics show green for the launch.
I had such high hopes for this freelance team then squareenix stopped them(errr... damn you) My thoughts are that they are secretly making one right now. (like a FF7 remake. dont tell me that dont exist squareenix i know it does.) I seem to recall that they said there would be no port for DS and low and behold a DS port of chrono trigger hits the shelves but sales wasnt as good as expected. And if you look you can see some videos of newly posted videos supposibly leaked. Hope still exists.

Worse case they decide to japan only release for a CT remake since in reality the determining factor is if it would sell in japan (which i believe it would) then its just a matter of worth porting a English version. . (Then the talent hackers.... umm translators do their job, and I'm happy)

This is how a fan game should be done. Show a lot of progress in the beginning to get enough people into the project. As soon as enough people have joined the project just simple not post any updates other than a paragraph saying how great it looks with no pictures, people will assume it's dead. Finish the project and release without warning. It will be spread before it's can be shut down and if it does get shut down it will live on in torrents and filesharing websites.
They can't stop everybody. If it is distributed among enough people, and if some of those people share, and then the some of the people that got it from them share it...
That is impossible to stop. And do you think that square can threaten the anonymous with a lawsuit? It wouldn't be worth their effort to hunt down the sharers. Even if they did sue the sharers it would be only be luck of the draw on who gets caught. Square can't directly delete something off the internet.

Sweet! Chrono Cross has several endings too.
I think you should give it a chance. Most of the game is pretty much unrelated to CT, but near the end, the story really picks up and there are a few twists as well. It has a pretty unique battle system too.

@fmcneillii whoever said this fan made remake of theirs was the intent to profit off of it? I believe they just wanted to see this awesome game in 3D but sadly as we all know square enix has a very long pole stuck up inside a dark area. Which is why even their new FFXIV sucks hard-core. Hell they rejected the remake of FFVII (although i believe it is in the process of a remake as of now thx to a special someone), what would make you think they would allow this. Wish they did though.

I have to agree with the majority of the people that commented. Square Enix shut down something that could've been great. The flip side is that they were making a game whose brand is under SE's licensing, hence the Cease and Desist order. Not only that, Square tried to bring Chrono Trigger to this generation's audiences on the Nintendo DS, which is another probable reason why they shut them down.
It's a shame they got shut down though. This idea had potential, a whole lot of it.

Why didn't Square Enix just decide to team up with these guys? They wouldn't have to spend millions to make it since it's already being done by fans, and they roll in billions off the sales in pure profit. Not to mention it would rekindle the series, and it would be stronger than ever.
Whoever is managing Square Enix's business affairs is a complete failure at his job.

Next time someone tries to do such thig, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE KEEP IT A SECRET UNTIL IT'S DONE! After you release they cannot do shit about it. Just never reveal sensitive info about who were the ones doing this. This has been the problem with a lot of fan games, they get all this hype, they need to be done completely and be released and surprise these nasty corps.!

If their not getting any profit from their hardwork why would they allow something like this game to be put out? It be different if they had ask permission to do the game. No different than the way you can make a NFL game and sell it without the NFL consent. Thats how it is and should be. I would want no one stealing my ideas either

@fmcneillii: Yes I can and I am. Stealing an idea is a different thing than what these people were doing. They never claimed the idea of the game to be theirs, they were making a tribute to what they thought was a great game. They were not selling it, there was no profit involved. This game just got too good and they felt some kinda threat or something. There's plenty of remakes of this game, they did not stop them. there was no fault in this, they are just pigs.

I think Square-Enix has no right to stop others from doing these fan made creations because Chrono Trigger is now over for Square and will never make money off it again because now any copies bought are usually from ebay and other sites that the money goes to a person and not them. And also since they are not making money off it Square has become a child with a toy not playing with it but doesnt want others to have it.

I remember this. I remember following these guys and their every update all those years ago. I waited SOO LONG!!!! And was so excited, waiting all these years for them to actually come out with this highly anticipated 3D remake of my favorite game. And then news came that the asshats at Square Enix told them to end their project, thus shattering all hope for it. So. Fuck you, Square Enix and your ever-shitty games. When was the last time THEY made something that wasn't an utter disappointment?

I remember the maker spouting some bullshit that because the game wasn't selling on the DS(mind you it was about $40 at the time) Nobody was interested. But anyways square lost any credibility since theyve hook up with enix , and the last good game they did was ff7 and even though ff13 is beautiful graphicly , everything else sucks , I guess its another way to make money with average gamers who didnt like rpgs

Square Enix needs to get it through their thick fucking heads that pretty graphics is not all it takes to make a game these days. Look at the latest Final Fantasy game. It's not even a GAME, it's a fucking movie. You have zero control over the story, the characters..fuck, even your items and battles are picked for you.

Side note i would gladly pay the pice of 59.99 to just a remake right now, let alone a new chrono game. But I would rather they get great sales and start work on a continuing series of chrono games. And if they happen to make a "Deluxe edition" that comes with figure or chrono trigger item (ex ranbow sword, sunshades. or my own chrono trigger egg, that would be assume) im seriously going to have to camping outside in a tent till i get one. If they happen to run out. im also bringing a bat.

Also a million copies does sound like a nice number but Im sure they are hoping to sell about 15 million (about as much as modern warfare ) in the US alone. If they release it prematurely and it flops (meaning only die hard fans buy it) they waste thier trump game. Which could put the series again in time freeze. So they are simpley holding off on the game til the "recession" and statistics show green for the launch.

I had such high hopes for this freelance team then squareenix stopped them(errr... damn you) My thoughts are that they are secretly making one right now. (like a FF7 remake. dont tell me that dont exist squareenix i know it does.) I seem to recall that they said there would be no port for DS and low and behold a DS port of chrono trigger hits the shelves but sales wasnt as good as expected. And if you look you can see some videos of newly posted videos supposibly leaked. Hope still exists.

@ExplodingCarebear This is true i happen to own it on SNES, PlayStation, and DS, as well as a Rom. It could be possible that they were just wanted to see if CT still had a following. Worse case they decide to japan only release for a CT remake since in reality the determining factor is if it would sell in japan (which i believe it would) then its just a matter of worth porting a English version. . (Then the talent hackers.... umm translators do their job, and I'm happy)

This is how a fan game should be done. Show a lot of progress in the beginning to get enough people into the project. As soon as enough people have joined the project just simple not post any updates other than a paragraph saying how great it looks with no pictures, people will assume it's dead. Finish the project and release without warning. It will be spread before it's can be shut down and if it does get shut down it will live on in torrents and filesharing websites.

They can't stop everybody. If it is distributed among enough people, and if some of those people share, and then the some of the people that got it from them share it...
That is impossible to stop. And do you think that square can threaten the anonymous with a lawsuit? It wouldn't be worth their effort to hunt down the sharers. Even if they did sue the sharers it would be only be luck of the draw on who gets caught. Square can't directly delete something off the internet.

Oh, Square. How far you have fallen. I would think you would have realized the buzz this has received and acted on it instead of giving us a shitty DS remake that screws the music something fierce, destroying the characters we love, and even altered the story to better fit with Chrono Cross via the new ending.
