  • This is just so full of sh*t, all he says is common sense.

  • Basically what he's saying is that you come up with any old shit product, even if the designs are based on another company's, as long as you market it properly. It seems that in order to maximise profits, the 'use-value' of the product no longer takes precedence, but the 'exchange value' (the amount people are willing to pay) is most important. That's probabably because we already have, in a material sense, more-or-less everything we could ever need or want.

  • "Value" is only determined by the consumer. It is NOT determined by the business. Kotler needs to modernize his thinking. This is old information.

  • @onebrandofdemocracy I think the same. Customers do not care about the business, they only care about the value they are getting. They only care the solution to their problem. If we can solve it and efficiently communicating it then we got a business.

  • @letsdofflinebusiness I disagree with you. Not all customers care about value in the first place. For example Macbooks are three times more expensive than PCs with the same hardware and both of them do the job, in fact PCs are more flexible and with virtualization they can run all Mac's softwares. Still there is growing percentage of people who would pay three times the price to get their hands on those candy style machines.

  • I believe that Kotler is the one of the most skilled (if not THE MOST SKILLED) communicators for marketing in todays contemporary world of marketing. Kotler dominates, with his command of the marketing concept and is "up to date" on all aspects of how to reach your client.

  • While Mr. Kotler is obviously a expert in his field, I think it's telling that in the marketing world, "printing a smiley face on a cookie" is considered a good example of new technology.

    Thusly this should be amended to "it used to be that engineers and scientists made new products. Now sales and marketing do."

Marketing has been evolving a lot, and this sir has kept up with all the technological innovations to add new tools and ideas to his theories on Marketing. He's almost 80 years old and his mind is so sharp! He's legendary! Hope to catch his teachings again soon.
