  • LOL..this guy is gna be the next Crocodile hunter..LOL "see the little tounge there?" hell yea we see it..Sizing yo ass up for a quick meal when it gets older..LOL gotta lovem!!!

  • What happened to the snake? I assume you released it.

  • @jamespiperca Yes. The kids released it the next day.

  • @jamespiperca wow cool no one cares about animals and releasing them its stupid i do and its hard to care about when people say no one cares but i countinue and i guess so do you

  • That pic of the inland taipan looks remarkably familiar....

  • wut was under its chin in the first quarter of the video it was like a bump

  • @MysticManiac7 A droplet of water from the esky

  • what would happen if a child is bitten by a keel back snake?

  • @Mr0802takahirotorren Keelbacks are completely non-venomous. A rarely spoken danger of any bites or stings however is infection or blood poisoning. Always seek professional medical attention for these types of things. In the case of snakes, a misidentification can prove fatal.

  • oh very beautifull little snake

  • good for you

  • Bunch of decedents of criminals!

  • This is why I love Australians.

"Wild snake on the side of the road. I'll take it home for my kids to play with"

    I'm kidding

    But great video

  • Is that the ancestor's tale behind you?

    Love that book.

  • It sure is.

  • dawkins fan right?

  • More his biology than his ideology. He is an amazing science writer. I'd credit that particular book with responsibility for my going into sciences.

  • Snake is like "what is wrong this dude talking to himself? I can't bite a crazy dude!"

    Cool video man.

  • I'm sorry djarm67 but as far as I'm concerned there are only 2 kinds of snakes: dead and alive. The former being my favorite kind.

I can handle anything...bugs, frogs, rats, creationists...but snakes freak the hell out of me.

  • Got something against bees?!

  • No..just snakes. :D

  • OH SHI-

    Steve Irwin lives!

  • Wow I not only missed a snake video but a video where I have the opportunity to see the person behind the videos. Anyways vary nice snake.

  • lol, and the bookshelf behind the person.

  • And that is why I could never live in this part of the world.

  • hey djarm, take a photo of you, your girlfriend/wife and the snake. and an apple. then caption it: THINK FOR YOURSELF, BLAME IT ON THE SNAKE

  • Why not blame the wife?

  • Nah, that's been done already ;-)

  • because that would be stupid :)

  • That snake didn't even talk ^^ I was told they did! :D

  • Don't listen to anything snakes tell you. They are lying little turds.

  • Okay, Sir, I won't :D

What about burning bushes babbling crap? Are they to be ignored as well?!? :D

  • Interesting that this particular snake is developing an immunity to the Cane Toad. I am very familiar with that toad (we call them Bufo toads) as they are endemic in South Florida.

These poisonous toads are a threat to dogs who like to bite them and end up getting the venom from the toad's back into the dog's mouth. Each year, there are quite a few reported dog deaths from these nasty toads, esp. small dogs.

  • Now, djarm64... this snake. It didn't offer you a piece of fruit, did it ?

  • I can't resist mangoes

  • @Turandot29

    67.

  • Fascinating video -- thanks. It's funny because just the other day I caught a smooth green snake just outside my house. (The neighbor lady thought I was nuts for picking it up.) Beautiful light green color. I released in back into the woods. (Virginia, btw)

  • Years ago I caught a hog-nosed snake. Their defense is interesting. Plan A - They puff up with air, hiss and strike aggressively (but not bite). Plan B - If you mess with them long enough, they roll onto their back, writhe around, then play dead. The funny thing is, if you roll them back onto their stomach, they roll onto their back again as if to say, "I'm DEAD dammit! Now go away!"

  • lol

  • That is so awesome.....and people say snakes

    aren't cute! XD

  • off topic, that appears to be a copy of "Evolution," by Barton, et al. in your bookcase. I sometimes use it as a reference.

  • Yes. Awesome book.

  • YOU are my new FAVORITE person in the WORLD! I LOVE SNAKES! They're absolutely fascinating and beautiful creatures!

Thank you for having the heart to save this one. It's a beaut! COOLEST VID on YouTube! =)

  • Woo Hoo!

  • LOL.... I KNOW! I had to sign in on another computer to get it done, but I will NOT let a machine beat me! =b

  • Lovely snake. Thanks for sharing :)

  • Your turn to do this with a Black Tiger Snake ;)

  • Wow, that's great news about the cane toads! Finally a potential indigenous predator to keep them in check :-)

  • Comment removed

  • Fascinating. Thank you

  • He is lovely.

    Very good show.

  • Good on you! (I'm an American and don't usually use this phrase, but I think it's used in Australia). Most people would just scream "Kill it! Kill it!" and take a hammer to it. You give us a biology lesson and return it to the "wild", where nature can carry on. I like that. Most people are ignorant and attempt to stay that way.

  • You remind me of Steve Irwin with that "this BEAUTIFUL little snake here". Peace be with him, and nice of you to save snakey.

  • Is it a talking snake?

  • I'll ask Harry.

  • Let me know if it talks to you about snacking on some fruit lol

  • He never shut up about fruit. Why are snakes always so damn health conscious?

  • Snakes always want everyone to go vegetarian and abstain permanently from meat. Why? Simple. More for them

  • I thought his hat said evolution for a while

  • I kept expecting it to snap at your face. I don't

mind snakes and I used to catch them when I was a

kid, but I held them much closer to the head then

that! lol I caught a huge one once that snapped at

anything it could get it's teeth into. My mom made

    me set it free :(

Anyway, good luck to the Keelback and bad luck

    to the Cane Toads.

  • I came back to find this comment to correct

what I posted. It's been bugging me for

two days now. I guess I should have said...

'anything it could get it's 'fangs' into' :)

  • If that's mucus coming from the snakes mouth it would indicate it's quite unwell. I'd strongly suggest you take it to the vet asap, it may need some antibiotics, it's probably under some stress after some sort of event.

  • No. Just a drop of water from the bottom of the esky I was keeping it in.

  • The reason the snake was jumpy was you werent supporting it well. It had nothing to rest or wrap onto.

  • we don't even have snakes that big in Canada, and the ones we do have cant even bite you. But at least we have a good supply of large carnivorous mammals.

  • @DrFoolishit You have rattlesnakes, and bullsnakes, probably kingsnakes.

    All larger

  • Not In Alberta, at least in mid-northern Alberta.

  • @DrFoolishit not in northern, i think the prairie rattler's range stops in mid or mid southern Alberta. I dont remember how far, but they're up there ! lol

  • oh... well now I feel kinda stupid. Also we have Bears, big nasty ones that will eat a man whole.

  • Very, very nice.

  • You are braver than I, by measures! I try not to be scared of them, really I do - but there is no way in hell I could handle a snake as casually as you just did man!

  • beautiful specimen!

  • cool snake.. I like natures way to keep things balanced...

  • Nice video. That was a cool snake. We watched a video in one of my bio classes a few semesters ago, and it was all about the cane toad's introduction to Australia and the awful consequences thereof. It's cool to see that these snakes are doing something about it! :D

  • This was very nice. Isn't Australia the continent with the most variety of poisonous animals?

  • Yes. Even some of the women are venomous at particular times of the month.

    ;)

  • 10 minutes and it didn't even byte the camera :(

  • wow, i was worried for you all way through the vid, but you seem to have a way with snakes!

my room mate had an orange one 2 month ago, but it found its way out of the terrarium and lived with us in the house somewhere. he found it, still in his room 2 weeks later and gave it to a pet shop. poor snake..

  • Excellent video!!! Beautiful snake! 5*

  • Can you name it wiggles?

    It's an amazing animal.

We have no snakes that I know of here.....

  • Hahahahaha... wiggles

Wouldn't be so funny if I weren't drunk... thanks for the laugh.

  • What a wonderful creature - thank you for sharing your find. I hope your kids enjoyed too!

  • I always have to think of Ben Kingsley.

  • Wow, I never knew Djarm looked so badass

  • he's a feisty little chap. it's always nice to find random videos in your subscription box that you're not expecting, specially when they're this interesting

  • Lovely little snake. Thanks for sharing with us. :)

  • I went hiking a few months ago in the mountains only 10 minutes from where I live and caught a snake. Catching animals is always fun.

    Nice video.

  • Beautiful snake and well done saving it. And thanks for the info. :)

Of course the venom toxicity issue is a bit too complex to cover quickly, but it's not generally a good idea to compare LD50 values. They say very little, if anything, about the lethality of the venom when talking about humans and when medical care is considered. Not to mention consequences if you survive, like permanent damage to tissue, organs or the nervous system.

  • So true. Australian snakes have the most toxic "if" you measure by LD50, so I'll use that because then we win.

    ;)

  • Nice.

  • That was really cool. Quite a pretty little snake. It responded surprisingly well to being handled I'd say. We have black king snakes around here and they just flash off like a bolt of lightning if you even come close. I've never seen a rattler or a copperhead except at the Washington Zoo but supposedly we have both nearby. Thanks for sharing that!

  • I bet just about all watching is just hoping and wishing for an incident. I know I was. :)

  • that'd make you a meany then :)

  • OR one of few honest people :)

  • I think I was as well in a weird, twisted sort of way. It would have increased the comedic value.

  • Yea just think of the views. All it would have cost you would be some pain and a couple of drops of blood.

But then i could just aswell spend the time watching some braindead x-factor or whatever its called. At least now i learned someting.

So now i have more to forget.

  • Gorgeous!!!

  • Ohh, he's such an adorable guy! ^_^

  • What about the snake?

  • Yeah, the snake is indeed adorable! :-)

  • Such a beautiful country. Such wonderful wildlife. But, as a pom, you'd need a crowbar and 5 big mates to get me anywhere near the bush. You live near Taipans? I know you laugh at my nervousness. I know you'll say they avoid humans and don't bite without a reason. It's just the thought of such a thing on the loose.

I admire your knowledge, and the confidence you have in it. :)

  • That's a myth. They don't avoid humans. They do bite without reason. Those muthers track you down if you even look at them the wrong way. lol

    ;)

  • My dad caught lots of grass snakes back in the day still nothing compared to what you can get in Australia.

  • haha, you know, all of the creationists were praying that you'd get bitten (and that you'd misidentified the snake). lol. Cool, very informative video.

  • Oh Yeah. Like i am going to get close enough to see if it has loreal scale to determine if it is poisonous or not. Apart from that great vid.

  • I love colubrids, I own two.

Judging by the length of the tail I'd say it's a male, females are wider around the cloaca and have shorter tails.

  • I didn't want to expose the hemipenis on YouTube in case some people flagged the video. lol

  • hahaha good thinking

  • pretty interesting

  • sweet! i wish iwe got those :(

  • I once caught a kingsnake while at work in a grocery store, this made quite an event for the store since I'm a girl and they expected me to freak out. But it was a little baby and pretty calm, outside of pooping on me it just hung out in my hands while I waited for someone to give him a home.

  • Cool

  • 'gonna giet beetin'

  • Nice hat
