Elelisrael is right, Barbary's manes go all down there stomach. But Barbary's are coming back, Operation: Barbary Lion is rounding up as much as they can. Unfortunatly, zoos don't want to give up there lions. Cute video though XD.
today me and my mum,bros and sisters whent to or lympne park had gr8t fun apart from ... £51 THEY WANT ALOT OF MONEY DONT THEY? my big bro had and row with a monkey they r cheeky little things arnt they
The last Barbary lion was shot in the wild in the 1920's. The lions at Port Lympne are descended from those at Rabat Zoo, (which were previously kept in private menageries by the Kings of Morocco for generations), and have the longer, heavier mane which extends along the belly that is characteristic of the Barbary lion. An international breeding programme is in place to restore this majestic species. See the Port Lympne website for more info on our lions and the breeding programme.
Please, I´m sure that you are saying this with no bad intentions, but in fact, the mane extending to the belly isn´t a way to identifiy barbary lions. In fact asiatic lions also do have it and certain african lions when exposed to colder climates start to have hair on their belly as well.
Check on google « The sixth extinction- Species info- Barbary Lion and you´ll have a better idea.
Best wishes to your project anyway. I hope they are true Atlas lions
@elelisrael Thats a Barbary hes just young and havent met his prime yet. Notice the hair under his belly starting to grow in about 1-2 years he'll have a full mane.
This is one is a young one.

Barbary Lions are extinct in the wild, though there are few hundreds remaining in zoos.

@mils2211
It would be great if there were few hundreds of TRUE barbary lions in zoos...
