Do you know what nigel gresley said of mallard?-----any one of my engines can do 100mph with or without a tin jacket and the same is true of this monstrosity
she was still in the Great Hall at NRM at the begining of October, she has however been given an LMS 'streamlined' coach......though that wasnt so obvious.
she is a stunning machine! she looks great.
but then again so does Mallard. a little worse for wear but still Stunning none the less.
@bhyllsman that was Staniers point of view, he hated the streamlining, he felt that the advantages at a higher speed did not outweigh the disadvantages when it came to maintainence. who actually got the streamlining done in the first place is unknown.
@tom201090 I read that the new Director at the NRM is looking at bringing her back into steam, and having a rake BR Mk 2s painted to match. Now that would be a sight.
Duchess of Hamilton is my favourite steam engine of all time, she and other members of her class are actually faster than the diesel engine that run services nowadays all the best reason to bring back steam long live steam!!!!!
you lucky blighter I was on the dutchess trip up shap last weekend and went first classs as it was a xmas present more chance of getting a window to film out of and bacon rolls and coffee in the morning have a good trip my friend
hi east midlands steam Im on that trip in july with oc and longiing to see this its much tastier than an a4 aand just lets hope they do steam it .money put by for that trip
heythanks for the comment because i know the tour operators ive managed to get my standard price tickets upgraded to first class at no extra cost. should be a good trip =]
its not my favourite design, prefer the a4's but still some magnificent engineering gone into it. All credit to everyone at Tyseley well worth the effort
Nice shot of Hamilton, I saw it go through Tamworth at 1056am. I have got a special invite for the unveiling ceremony at York tomorrow, can't wait to get some good photos of it. Expect it to be back on the main line within the next ten years. They wouldn't spend 40 grand for it just to sit in York for evermore.

How the hell did 14 ton of streamlining make it go faster----they would have been better off halving the size of the tender!

it would be good if she ran on the mainline like this. Would be Britain (and possibly the worlds) most stylish train. The pendolino of the era

@mattbozi89 Until you see it for real everyone has different opinions :) I'd personally prefer it to go back on the mainline with the cladding.

Why on earth have they put all this cladding on her??
simonsteam 1 year ago
@simonsteam To show the very different streamlining idea LMS used + Steam Railway magazine helped raise the money to re-create it.
