i get the basics of sound design and synthesis, but i'm struggling to wrap my head around ring modulation. can someone please tell me what exactly it does and how?
@chuckles1252 Ring modulation uses a variable (in this case, the pith dial or CV input) to create two additional pitches which are equidistant from the fundamental signal.
Yes, thats actually something that gets advertised a lot... I'm getting an LP Stage II very soon and going to pick up as many moogerfoogers as I can afford too.. they are a great combo.
There is a particular sound I want to know if it produces. In 1973, Emerson, Lake and Palmer supposedly used this to create the computer voice in the tune "Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression", and, I would like to see if this can be confirmed. If so, I would like to buy one. I would deeply, deeply appreciate it if you could possibly do this. Thanks, so much.
This would work with ANYTHING that you could get an audio signal through a cable with. So, if you were to, say, play a clarinet into a microphone, with that mic running through this pedal.....well, yeah, you get the idea.
I guess it's a Yamaha QY-70 digital sequencer. I had one a few years ago. It had a successor named QY-100, but I don't think that one is still produced either. You can catch them on ebay at a comparatively low price.
It does respond to CV inputs to modulate the settings. If you're looking for a good keyboard, moog or otherwise, just look around at videos and stuff to see which sounds you like. I know Marley's band had a mini moog and used a Hohner clavinet a lot too. But I'd look for something that makes a lot of different sounds if you're playing in a band. It's just way easier.
Can i have this pedal near my hands and expand it with a foot expression pedal? for ex. noog ep -2 ??? Does this pedal have wah wah? An expression pedal is necessary for this moog?
Hey, glad you enjoyed this. I would do a vocal video with the ring modulator, but I've sold it.
There have to be loads of good examples on the net. I just can't provide one!
I mostly used the LFO on my guitar and put tons of drum machines through this unit. The expression pedal and the high quality, square/sine LFO is what made this thing great.
I would really like to hear/see a demonstration of someone talking through one of these. Emerson, Lake and Palmer used this to simulate the computer voice on Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression, and I would like to see how it's done. Can you do this, by any chance? Thanks so much.

So if you plugged this into a Moog little phatty—which has two oscillators—would you have a three oscillator synthesizer?

Could you try this using a microphone, using on your voice? Does it work with a mic?

yup.

Would there be any way you could demonstrate it?

Might be a pretty stupid question but is this true bypass? and how is it powered?
ampardey 2 years ago
afaik all moogerfoogers are true bypass - except the "drive" control which is always active.
they are externally mains powered. i dont think they have the option for battery power.

is this a cv controller? Which moog would you recommend for a reggae keyboardist? i got an s - 90 es by yamaha and a vox v847 wah wah pedal.

This is an effect unit.

pretty much every function is controllable simultaneously with expression pedals.

how would distortion do with this have you tryed it? can u post a video possibley? or what if some phaser? :D
DysphoricExemption 3 years ago
i used to put signals through this at levels loud enough to distort right here in the ring modulator, it sounded great.

Im getting that!

I'm sure the LFO is great, but can you bypass it by just setting it to the lowest setting?

yeah, you can just turn it down.
