@longhairdlout It makes them better well rounded. In the manga/comics differnt groups used differnt weapons. One guy uses a MP44 and an anti-tank rifle. His armor is rather bad ass.
@longhairdlout For the same reason that people that drive tanks don't start in a massive battle tank. You have to gradually progress. Although I'm sure they get trained in all weapons so they can be well rounded soldiers.
@melvin7521819 movie/manga/book/liveactions/CGI shorts. it's pretty much anything you want it to be, there is only one anime movie, everything else is either books/manga/ or live action films. There is one CGI short called Last Battalion or something like that.
About the Helghast-Cerberus corps connection, it's very possible that it's just a coincidence. What are the most scary soldiers? Modern ones, with facecovering masks and glowing eyes. They look like emotionless drones which you can't sympathise with, in comparison with the other guys.
you ought to play Medal of Honor: Airborne. There are Nazi supersoldier that look similar to the panzercorps and use the same machinegun. They take a lot of damage before going down, too.
Hehe, yeah it's understandable, a lot of people think that when they first see this video. But this series apparently goes back as far as the late 1980s if I'm not mistaken. Certainly the early 1990's though. I'm not really an expert, I've just seen Jin-Roh and read a little about the series on wikipedia, but I'm sure you could find out anything you wanted to know from wikipedia.
I don't think that he had a choice in the matter. Not because they would have killed him had he refused to do it (although that is true), but because in the end, you can't be something that you are not.
I agree he has a choice, but I don't think so much it was about saving his own ass as it was about, as his leader said, "Do it now while you're still a beast.", he can't let go of who he is because its the only place he feels like he fits in. so he isn't strong enough to give up on his life as a brutal soldier for her.
Probably. Either that or an early retirement and honorable discharge to a lonely and disturbed life. At which point he'd have to rebuild his humanity. I think that's another point his leader was making. he said "Do it now while you're STILL a beast" that word still, perhaps, implying that he saw Fuse turning into a human, and becoming less and less able to deny his humanity. He wants to be where he fits in, but it gets harder and harder as in the short space of the movie he kills two young girls
this is beyond incredible. i am on the hunt for the creme de la creme of amv's, and you have a very nice piece. a very symbolistic piece, indeed. it really does reflect the dark aspects behind jin-roh. superbo job, man. just superbo.
listen to my amv rant. it's short, but it really does separate great amv creations such as this to crappy makeshift jargon floating around youtube. you know what i'm talking about.
It's funny you should mention that. I'm not much of an AMV fan myself either, there are one or two I like, but I never even thought of this as an AMV for some reason. It just never hit me, it's so well done.
The alternate universe that Jin Roh occours in was first concieved in 1986, with Jin Roh coming in 1999. Not only did this particular part of the saga predate the Helgast by five years, but the idea and armor designs are almost the sire to the Killzone games by twenty years.
Gurellia Games has even admitted that they got the idea for the look from the Kerberos saga, and heavy Nazi armor in WW2 (which was the inspiration for the armor in the Kerberos saga as well.)
Not only that. Guerrilla games in Netherlands right next to Germany. Germany got the Hellhounds: Panzer Cops (the series Jin-Roh was based on) in 1996. Netherlands was probably introduced to that manga later.
you guys should see the video on youtube with jin roh and german rock. type in "jin roh zerstoren" in the address bar and theres only one vid so check it out its awsome.
the First Kerbaros Movie 'Red Spectacles' came out in 1986 accompained second movie in 1990 called 'Stray Dog' and Jin-Roh in 1999 (in Japan)along with it's own comic series called Panzer Cops: Hell Hounds
all of which had the glowing eye's gas masks and MG machingun (Red Spectacles they had MG-34's and the rest of the movies they had MG-42, not sure about the comics)
so unless Enemy Territory came out before 1986. Then I'd say they copied from Mamoru Oshii
i don´t think they like it, but it´s easyer to understand if they a picture language that most people understand. Even Star Wars does it, with it´s Storm Troopers and the way the empires generals are dressed, as well as Darth Vader and the Emperor.
But Mangas have some common themes that are appearing again and again, so in my oppinion you can see interests but mostly Japanese fears, like the nuclear strike in many Mangas.
I love jin-roh style soldiers, with the red eyes and whatnot. Does anyone else notice that those appear to be German MG-42 machineguns that the soldiers are using?
It's because the story takes place in an "alternative history" Japan in the sixties (or was this fifties?). In this alternative, it was nazi Germany, not USA, that A-bombed Japan, and then occupied it. Therefore in this story there is a strong German influence in the post-war Japanese society, like USA influenced Japanese society after WW2 in real life.
actually thats only partly true. Hiroyuki Okiura was the director. he had worked on Oshii films, but this was his first work as director. The story however is in the same universe as Red Spectacles and Stray dog, which were made and directed by Oshii.
I've said it before but this is the best song ever written and the vid goes nice with it, not quites as good as the twisted metal black, but damn nice

its a very depressing movie. there are some live action side-stories too, directed by the guy who did the Ghost in the Shell movies. I own one of them, called "The Rose Spectacles". However, it only has the suit in it for about 4 minutes and the rest of the movie is kind of a surreal journey. not quite what i wanted.
