Special effects? you need to know how to animate, 3d models, physics. Because he draws good, that doesn't mean he should be special effects, unless he knows phyisics, how to make a 3d model and animate it, his area is GFX design

i am pro at all, but is still prefer making the object in 3d, mostly because you can animate it, change it or modify it in ways that any 2d program cant even imagine

for ur information 2D designer makes more money than 3D animators, a digital paint can create a illusion for the team to get the idea so the 3D animator ( URSELF ) can get the job done. yes because everything is in 3d... photoshop and others have a big impact on the graphics world cartoons comic and signage almost everything you see in your daily life much all drawn,inked or edited with computer programs like photoshop now. 3d programs take less skill to use being able to draw in 2d well takes great skill that you mostly do not have.
