cracking film covers a special time in the history of Manchester and i belive it should of won more awards but i don't think Tony Wilson would of liked that. Tony R.I.P
Could someone please explain the dialogue between the journalist (Paul Morley?) and Wilson at 2:42 when answering accusations of being a fascist because they named the band Joy Diviosion after a Nazi camp?
"Situationism...post-modernism...free play of science signifiers...etc"
High brow stuff compared to "Wilson, you're a c**t!"
@infradig8 Well, if you're still interested or haven't come to your own conclusions Durrutti Column were anarchist militants in the Spanish Civil War, Situationism is ideology but 'situationists' were mainly Marxists - checkout The Situationist Anthology for some interesting reading and post-modernism is bollocks.
I saw this movie on cable and loved it imediatly. Rented it: watched it about 5 or 6 times. Great flick! Really heightened my intrest in the British music scene during the 80s.
I've been wondering, Tony says 'I've seen him do it' at 3.10 and in Control Bernard says it when Hooky is squaring up to the guy at the bar when Ian gets Wilson to put Joy Division on the TV...
Great compilation of scenes from the film..I love this movie..unfortunately I dont know many people I can show it to who would appreciate it. Steve Coogan is the man!
i don't really like peter kay's stand up too much anymore but he was hillarious in this "go on tony put that on your t.v show" *while tony's getting sucked off*, "come on in love join the party..your coming in or what not coming in then fuck off" lol
Surely they could've got sombody better than the guy who played Shaun Ryder. I think the actor spoilt the whole film!! He was absolutely nothing like Shaun Ryder, Everybody else was ok, Especialy Steve Coogan, Paddy Considine,Chris Coghill and Sean Harris. Even Ralf little as Peter Hook was ok compared to Danny Cunningham who played Shaun Ryder. Who the fuck picked him and why????
ive only just seen this film and loved it.not a huge coogan fan but i think as tony wilson he was superb.even his voice and mannerisms were the same.i remember seeing divine at the hacienda.one of the best clubs in the north west.years ahead of its time.thanks for posting.
As far as I know, there was a lot of good will between the two. They were in promo pics for the film and Tony did an interview with Steve on the Tristam Shandy DVD.
Tony had 2 problems though. One about Steve calling Mick Hucknell a ginger and gold records in the Factory office. Things like that. No biggie.
I would like to be Tony wilson

While I like Steve Coogan as a comedian, more than an actor, I believe he deserved an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for 24 Hour....
If we are talking the importance of a leading role in a film; Well, 24 Hour Party People was dependent on his realistic believability as Tony Wilson.
If Coogan said: "I'm Tony Wilson."
And WE, the audience didn't believe him, the movie was fucked!!
But we did and it was great!!!

Yaknow the scene at the beginning splices actual footage of Tony Wilson paragliding with Coogan speaking over it.
A fantastic film that always makes me laugh.
An odd period of time with some cracking tunes!!!
