Don't get in a serious car accident in NYC. The Firemen will rock your car trying to get the hood open to cut the battery cables because of the fire POTENTIAL instead of treating the injured (ACTUALITY). One Fireman took a prybar to my door and broke the window in my face. By the way, EMS were very careful with my neck while taking me out as was a Police Officer who placed a board to my back but who seemed more concerned with telling me that he was a cop than anything else.
Well, unless they had assessed you already, you being hurt isnt an actual to them yet. They need to get to you, and safely, before they can make you an "actual" injured patient. Rocking the car and such for an accident in which someone could have a spinal injury is asinine, I will agree there, however its all still necessary.

There are many people out there hurting for a buck, who will sue for just about anything.
Life-threatening emergencies do not require police presence. Any civilian reading these, be aware some people dont know what they are talking about by saying that. Don't get in a serious car accident in NYC. The Firemen will rock your car trying to get the hood open to cut the battery cables because of the fire POTENTIAL instead of treating the injured (ACTUALITY). One Fireman took a prybar to my door and broke the window in my face. By the way, EMS were very careful with my neck while taking me out as was a Police Officer who placed a board to my back but who seemed more concerned with telling me that he was a cop than anything else.

Well, unless they had assessed you already, you being hurt isnt an actual to them yet. They need to get to you, and safely, before they can make you an "actual" injured patient. Rocking the car and such for an accident in which someone could have a spinal injury is asinine, I will agree there, however its all still necessary.
Ive taken both my fire and ems courses. Typically, they are one in the same. The EMS helping you are also fireman - its just on that call they are working EMT-Ps

How are firemen lazy assholes...I don't see you running into a burning building with 100 lbs of gear and equipment being carrying and then having to work putting out a fire and searching for victims with little to no visibility. Can you recognize a backdraft or a flashover? You can't just put water on a fire. If you open up a line on fog pattern you will be burned. If anything the city fire departments are under paid. A upper floor fire with the risk of a roof collapse isn't dangerous?

@resqtech210 Yeah, ok, none of us see fireman running into burning buildings. The only time that's even an option is if there is someone inside the building. I've been a cop for 15 years and responded to hundreds of fires with the fire department and I've never seen them go in any building. I agree that if they do go in, it's one of the most dangerous jobs around, but that RARELY happens. My county has a million residents, so it's not so podunk department. They have over 30 statiions.

As funny as this video is, some people do have it right. I'm a FF/Medic and I don't blame the cops for calling us out for seemingly rediculous patients, it is a liability deal and its also called our job. Most of the time its a formality and we clear the patient medically and they take the guy to the clink. We razz the cops and they give it right back, nothing serious.

unfortunately yes, thats the way things are now. One cock sucker out of a million actually had a heart attack in a cop car and died after being arrested. Turns out he was telling the truth when he claimed chest pain. Now its a liability issue. So yes we have to clear them medically if they request it, and yes, we have to take them to the hospital if the patient requests it. Sadly, most assholes know this and use the "jailitis card" it to get out of their DUI's.

Yes, we are required to call in when requested. Yes, FD will *scrape* us up when we get hurt. Yes, we must use common *sense*, but realize we are the ones that get sued and have to testify on a very regular basis. Remember that police are the same people that investigate and write the collision reports when you crash into a civilian's vehicle and police are the same people that cut you a break when we pull you over for breaking a law. Yes, *karma* sucks.

LOL!!! As a Firefighter/EMT since 99, I have experienced this many times. As a new police officer, I have also had to make these types of bullshit calls. It's a HUGE liability not to have a medical evaluation done by EMS, regardless of the lack of severity of the illness/injury. Any true veteran of fire/ems/police will admit that unfortunately, it's all about CYA-Cover Your Ass nowadays. There are many people out there hurting for a buck, who will sue for just about anything.
