  • Lithuania seems more friendly than places like Albania, Serbia, Croatia ect...

  • It was because of these videos (the parts concerning the Baltic countries in particular) that I finally made a visit this past summer. Absolutely amazing places...

  • great to know about Lithuania......

  • Michel palin's new europe, is one of the best travel documentry sires I have ever seen. Excellent!!!!!

  • One last thing- Michael Palin is still so hot! Ahh... his handsomeness never goes away...

  • Anyway, it's so unfortunate that I know of nobody in Lithuania who has ever seen any of the Monty Python's Flying Circus episodes or the Python movies, or Ripping Yarns or Fawlty Towers. They're missing out on SO much!! Yet, of course, it's not like it's an English-speaking country...

Anyway, I wish I could have been there when he visited!! I hope he enjoyed my native country. He certainly spoke wonderfully about it. My favorite man on Earth went to my birthplace! This was so personal for me =)

  • I was born and raised in Lithuania- in Vilnius to be specific- and I've never visited that prison! Thanks for telling me about it! And wow it's extremely sad to say that I bet none of those people on the streets knew who Michael Palin was or all that he has done for entertainment, comedy, and the people of the world, also- not to mention his amazing travel programs! He is my favorite actor, my favorite Python, and my greatest hero! I wish to write more so I'll continue...

  • watch?v=AaZwOy3U2Do

    about Lithuania

  • hm.. ok?

  • Lithuania calls itself "Dainava" - Land of Song.

  • U MAKE ME VOMIT.HOW Dare you talk like that,im tired of these talks.OFFICIALLY!its 192000,(96%) which were killed by nazis,by Lithuanians who were ordered by nazis also by commies too and by Lithuanians who killed IN REVENGE but can be other numbers, since we know what has happened through 60 years! You mentioned the lie fact, but u forgot to mention the jews who collaborated with NKVD they tortured and killed not hundreds of Lithuanians.jewish nkvd interrogators were even more cruel than russians

  • I agree with Propanss. Perhaps the reason that most of the murders in Lithuania were of Jews is because there were Jewish collaborators with the Soviets who helped deport the hundreds of thousands of Lithuanians OUT of Lithuania to die. That would allow for your statistic to be right in numbers, but not so correct in merit. I think the only travesty is your pompous ignorant attitude. If you say you aren't ignorant, why didn't you mention the Soviet-Jewish collaboration?

  • Are you honestly suggesting that Lithuania, occupied by the Soviets, would be allowed to publish anything about their deportations during the Soviet occupation? People were killed just for transporting books. And Jews participated in the NKVD, helping deport one-third of Lithuania's population out of the country. I should know: I've taught classes on the subject. Have you? Use your intellect Just because something isn't on paper doesn't mean it didn't happen. It reeks of ignorance.

  • Communism left Lithuania almost 20 years ago, so by now, there surely would've been some declassified documents that gave a number close to what you claim if that actually were the case

  • Documents kept by whom? Did anyone keep "documents" with the names of the Lithuanians who hid the holy Talmud and other Jewish Scriptures in a Catholic monastery? And you, calling Kaunas Kovno and Vilnius Vilna the way Russians do, does not shed a good light on your integrity.

  • The Lithuanian pre-WWII constitution gave Lithuanian Jews a ministry in the government, and, if you look at photographs of pre-WWII Jews in Lithuania they seem happy and prosperous. Someone even called Vilnius the Jerusalem of the North.

  • If you question Jewish collaboration with the communists in Lithuania, you question Jewish collaboration with the communists in New York, Hollywood and almost everywhere else. That some Jews loved Communism cannot be disputed, that some Jews loved Russians is also a fact, but how much Russians loved the Jews is attested to by all the Russian Jews in Israel. Before you defend Jews, who to me where good and bad, just like all people, show the same consideration for Lithuanians.

  • Few hundred .... please, some IGNORANCE ! -truly ignorant travesty !

Besides, Lithuania's jews presumably were Lithuanians 'first

and foremost, or were they actually Israelis "masquerading"

    as 'Lithuanians"?

  • First of all I didn't say few hundred, I said few thousand. Like it or not, that's what happened back then. And the true definition of ignorance is suggesting such absurd (bordering on anti-semitic) things as "they were actually Israelis "masquerading" as Lithuanians"

  • Do you know a song called "Two Cocks"? :)))))

By the way,Nida is in Western part of Lithuania, not south. And why he spend half of the program time in KGB prison?

  • ...because for half a century Lithuania was Russia's prisoner and PRISON/jail, run extremely efficiently, exactly emulating Nazis, run first by GPU, then NKVD,KGB, all headed by Beria, who, when Russia's jews fell out of Stalin's favor, joined the countless millions (way more than Nazis managed) of victims himself .

As a result of this 50 year experience, EVEN TODAY LITHUANIA IS

STILL TRAUMATIZED ! ...too bad if you expected the half to feature, say,...

    strip-tease.

  • joja lietuvaiciai :D

  • YAY LITHUANIA!!

    -I'm 1/8 Lithuanian by blood

  • OH Lithuania :) Gražiausia šalis :)

  • Got silly with the singing bit around 7 in.

  • Well, nice video :)

  • It seems there are a lot of intresting places in Lietuva. I would like to visit those places.

  • You're allways welcome to Lithuania :)

  • @Eesti85 lietuva? dont you mean lithuania

  • Michael Palin didn't visit Belarus in his travel documentary about eastern Europe. It is probably due the country's strict censorship. See the forbidden Belarusian but critic awarded documentary 'Kalinovski Square' and 'A Lesson of Belarusian' on Youtube about the forgotten country. They depict the country and the "dictator" Lukashenko. Just click on my profile to aces them!

  • ive been here and im australian!

  • NIDA? Souther Lithuania???? It is the far North West, hear you have seriously mixed up spomething.

  • Na o man Michael Palin geriausiai zinomas kaip vienas sauniausiu komiku is super saunios jumoro trupes - "Monty Python" :)

  • i stood where those people were singing the other day! i was sad enough to try and find that spot whilst in vilnius, i had nothing else to do

  • ...nothing else to do in picturesque old VILNIUS ?

PITY... THANKS for visiting the 1000 year capital of gorgeous

    country LIETUVA - LITHUANIA !

  • sorry! i didn't mean it to be nasty. i loved vilnius, but we had visited every other interesting part many times over, and we had nothing much else to do. i really want to return to lithuania soon and see more of your beautiful country

  • Dekoju- i thank you for your sincere response.

I was born there '32. left '44- IN DARK DAYS OF RETURNING

SOVIETS. Settled in Canada. Took 59 years to return with family for 3week SERENDIPIDY visit. My forbears and my heart are there, but my displaced HOME IS in CANADA.

BE MY SOUL and REMEMBRANCE when /if you visit

    Lithuania again. GOD BLESS !!!

  • Palin puts a quite brilliant and beautiful argument for the value of fighting for the freedom and independece of a nation against imperialists (think Kosovo...)

He gives a short but informative overview of the feeling and culture of Lithuania. Quite a marvellous and inimitable achievement in 10 minutes.

  • @josephdrew87 I agree. It's quite a history lesson actually. This really was an excellent documentary on Lt for the time alotted. Michael is simply the best!

  • That chick in the blue top is hot!

  • Very Nice Country but I think Palin could've done much better than that. I think I could do a better documentary than him and I could've shown many more beautiful sites in Lithuania than he did. Seems like he just spent half an hour on wikipedia to do his research. He's to old to do this. Let's get someone new and young to do this.

  • @marianjunior23 I have to disagree completely. He showed many great and absolutely beautiful sites. He showed the countryside, the biggest city and capital, and the Lithuanian shore and off-shore islands, not to mention the great shot of the forest at the end. And he showed very important and symbolic historical sites as well. He also spoke a great deal about Lithuanian history for the time alotted. Additionally, he showed us a celebrity and interacted with people on the streets and had fun.

  • @marianjunior23 Oh, aaand I forgot to mention that he showed some great historical video clips. Plus, he's super pleasant, relaxed, interesting, and interested. This documentary was excellent, especially for the small time allotted in the program.

  • @marianjunior23

oH c'mon shut up. Lithuania sucks and you ppl know it. its flat and boring.

  • I visited that genocide museum 10 years ago. Truly inhuman, I'll never forget the cell with the pedestal and icy water. The curator then was an ex prisoner, and an absolute gentleman

  • Nice video, although i think he spends too much time in non-important tasks (singing part for example...)

I would like to see more of the countryside, history, city sights etc instead...

  • geras reportazas

  • xexe smagiai :D

  • it's a fact that 3 BALTIC NATIONS may be the 'singiest' countries in the world. Palin is Palin -good-super-mediocre.

Don't rely on him alone - FIND OUT LITHUANIANS SINGING

    THEIR HEARTS OUT for yourself.

On a moment's notice in a deserted square, AMAZING the clip picked up such singing ...fare !!! VALIO !!!

  • I watched this its absolutely brilliant !!!

  • despite some opinions that Mr Palin is just an old legend, the documentary is quite good. Although Nida is not in the south, but in the west of Lithuania. The song "Two cocks" is the best... ;) Dirty us :)

  • Kaip noreciau visa pamatyti ta klipa :/

  • Cia ir ira visas klipas apie Lietuva

  • @midgetmartin tai kad nelabai, manyciau, pilnas, nes baigesi ne vietoje. Kaip tokiam 'short'ui' per daug buvo uztemtos dalys, vadinas, sis video has been meant to be longer :)

  • I going to meet him next week! I'm having my haircut especially for him lol!

  • @BethGoth15 How was the meeting, if you don't mind me asking? I know you posted this two years ago...so I'm not really expecting a reply. But, I'm still very curious! I'm an absolutely HUGE fan of Michael.

  • @gerasoras Glad to! It went fine! The convo went exactly this:

    Mum: Hello, this is Beth.

    Mikey: Hello, Beth.

Mum: She wants me to tell you that she has the same birthday as you.

    Mikey: 5th May?

Mum: Yes. Also, her friend Lexy from America says hello.

Mikey: That's nice, say hello back! *To me* Nice T-shirt!

Mum: She's wearing it because you know what it means!

Mikey: Yes, I do. Nice to meet you both.

I nearly fainted! I wish I did because he would've come and saved me!

  • @BethGoth15 Oh my God, I would've nearly fainted as well! That is so amazing!! I'm really hoping to meet him some day :D Thanks a whole lot for sharing your great experience! What T-shirt was it, if you don't mind me asking?

  • @gerasoras Oh, yep. It was my Spamalot T-shirt :P That has "I'm not dead yet" written on it. It's still one of my favourite shirts!!

  • @BethGoth15 ahhh Spamalot! My favorite Broadway show! I have a big button that says "I'm not dead yet." Classic. And that's really cool that you have the same birthday as him, by the way! So how did you get to meet him?

  • @gerasoras It was at a booksigning near where my nan lives. I was staying at her house for the week, so I begged my mum to take me.

  • tik galetu ilgesnis but, daugiau info sutalpint

  • labai saunus reportazas, kas nezino Michael Palin, siulau dar paziureti from pole to pole reportazu serija.
