In Denmark we have a fully covered health insurance. I could not be more happy about that. You don't know when you turn ill, and not everybody has the money when you eventually do get ill. Covering your own insurance is like getting fined for being ill.
Seems like American freedom chooses death over public safety.
@Ventasmentos You have considerably less than 200 million people to cover so it will be easier to do. I'm glad you like your health care system but it won't work here due to cost to individuals ie: taxpayers. I paid over 12,000 this year in taxes, I don't want\Can't afford to pay more.
It's going to be hard to improve care, reduce costs and cover 30 plus million more people with 45% less doctors...in fact impossible. This bill isn't about health care, it's about control.
Well, I am for the public option. If you don't like it, then don't buy into it. Besides, we are already paying for the people of Iraq to have universal healthcare so why can they have it and we can't?
And, pray tell Obama doc, what is it REALLY all about? Funny thing about facts, they seem to missing in the Democrats' messages. Hmmm...this feels more and more like a Matrix movie.
I wonder if Obama is aware that not all insurance companies are evil and making obscene profits... Like the one my wife works for, for example...
If this DEMOCRATICALLY dominated government forces this down our throats, they need to be eliminated in 2010. And don't worry, they'll have better healthcare than they are forcing on us.
After the events of the past few days do you still think there is a significant difference in the actions of the D and R wings of the Leviathan Party that rules the USA?
What a dumbass. Medicare works? It is rife with fraud and waste, not to mention is has $74,000,000,000,000 unfunded liabilities. That is it is $74 TRILLION in the hole and this dufass says it works. Unfricking believable.
Haha! They uninvited him because he would hurt his own position. He reminds me of those people on Penn and Teller Bullshit that proudly proclaim their vocation and then get skewered by P&T.
I get my FedX packages overnight placed by my front door. Most of my packages that come through the Post office have been opened to see if there is something they want to steal. My post office admits they have a problem with theft.
You forgot the fact that the Post Office will send your packages to some random town that is further away from where it started out. For example, I live in Philly. An order shipped from NJ, Went to NY, then to CT, then to philly. Gotta love the USPS
LOL!!!! Yeah, you know how ABC is all in the tank for Right-Wing views - they don't cover the public option at all. Medicaire for all, wow, that would just be great - I can loose my quality private health care, along with 85% of us so that 15% can gain what? A bakrupt Single Payer system, where government controls everything from reimbursement levels to what is covered. Oh, boy, that sounds just great.
Kudos to ABC for doing something "right" for America once. Hands off my health care.
It's bankrupt!!! He's only looking at how he's reimbursed and that's HIS bottom line. It doesn't work!!! Dr.'s that look out for their own bottom line are happy with medicare but the specialists that are smarter know better.
How can we demand that the debate shows up on TV is the American gov't censors and regulates what's put on TV? Americans have to quit being idiots and just go get their information from other world media. In America the only thing that will show is everything against health care since anything else will demolish ins. co. profits. Why the fuck would they want people wanting healthcare? That is why everyone is against it because they don't know anything different except what they want you to know.
roblox , I'm trying to understand ur argument....so what I'm getting is you understand that hilary/O care will abolish Insurance co. profits ? when in fact they're usung that as a talking point & in actuality it is all about ins. co profits $ (just the ones in their "special Interests ( so much for "The end of Washington as we Knew it " ) In fact there are more "special Interests" roaming the halls @ Crapitol Hill than ever in HISTORY . _-_
If it is such a great plan, why does the president and congress choose to opt themselves out for their own coverage. I would be much more trusting of this plan if they had to live with it too.
WE ARE BETTER THAN FEDX SINCE WE DELIVER THEIR PACKAGES!!!!
And you might want to read the plan before you make any judgments on it. If they have nothing to hide have the government post it for everyone to read. Every bit of it pork and all. I for one would not buy something without reading about it not very smart. Would you?
ok u know healthcare is not cheap and it is a hassle but its affordable for almost anyone and i havent met anyone who hasnt gotten the help they need when thier employed
change should be done but dont permanently override the system and turn it into government controll socialism that no one is properly informed about or even gets to have a say in it the constitution says government should step in little as possible and this seems like the biggest way to step in to me
Single payer does not work. The UK has death panels and cancer survivability in the UK and Canada is much less than in the US. Doctors in Canada are trying to get healthcare privatized so they can get healthcare working properly again.
Medicare works??? Medicare only allows for an annual exam every two years, if you are a woman. That is pap smear, pelvic exam to check for ovarian and colon cancer , etc... every two years only. Don't these idiots get it? Prevention saves lives and money. If they do get it, then they just don't care about the very people they say that they are trying to help.
He has to say this or the CHI-THUGS will come after him. He has been BOs private physician since 1987...knows ALOT of BHO history that we don't know since BO never released his med records...just an undated letter from this moron.
#### In a nationalized health care system, the government will have complete access to all of my medical records. Why does NOT the public need to know Senator Obamas?
What a moron. He says the private industry doesn't work. Please give me evidence. I ve maintained private health insurance for the last 30 years and it works just fine for me and lots of other people that I know. Making broad, overreaching statements that our private health care industry doesn't work is extremely ignorant.
I just can't believe that the guy said "Medicare works." Oh and by the way, don't we call the single provider of a service a monopoly? Isn't that against the law?
It works? But its unsustainable? It's going bankrupt, but it works?
What an idiot. Nothing the government ever does just "works". It is always over-budget, always grows out of control, and always fails at its primary goal.
The department of energy was created for one purpose: to end our dependence on foreign oil. Nice job. The DOE budget is now $1.6 TRILLION and they suck!
Created for one purpose but an utter failure.
Show me one example of government success, under budget. Just one.
Man if I ever felt the need to be crude, its after watching this guy. The only difference between Dr. David Scheiner and a 5 gallon bucket of bullshit , is the bucket.
I love it when libs say something "works" just because some people get some of the care they need while they ignore the fact that there is a huge debt building behind this program. BO says there is $500M in fraud and waste in medicare that he wants to save and start another government program...are you kidding me...
If Medicare "works" then why is it financially bankrupt, with plans to cut Doctors reimbursement by 20% in 2010. Ask a Doctor who actually receives Medicare reimbursement (instead of getting a White House salary) if Medicare is a good working system.
Single payer Medicare may work from the perception of its customers. But socialism breeds socialism - by disconnecting those "satisfied customers" from the true cost of health care, demand is increased, and then those extra and subsidized costs are transferred to the rest of the system. Then the "private sector" with its added costs are accused of being more greedy. So the initial "government solution" (medicare) contributes to the alleged reason a further "government solution" is necessary.
You people are the one's out of your minds. My mother was on Medicare, and she received excellent care. The health care debate really points out the unbelievable levels individuals will stoop due to greed.
Really? My mother is also on Medicare yet she has to carry private insurance to cover the cost that Medicare does not....hmmm not buying your argument .
how dumb and blind can you be. money can blind people. stupidity can conquer with enough loud, ignorant, people who vote out of emotions and not truth!!!!!!!
Just another example of Socialist drivel and psychobable. Josef Goebbels would have loved to get this guy to do a commercial about how small a carbon footprint the ovens at Auschwitz made... These pie in the sky Socialist utopians really think that the American people can't read or reason.
This guy is out of his mind... that is if he has one.. Medicare is his idea of a health care plan that works??? What would you expect from obombus's doctor...
This man truly needs psychotherapy as he has a serious problem discerning between the world in his head and the world that actually exits around him. That's all there is to it.
apparently he has never personally used medicare; both of my parents are deceased and neither one of them had as good of benefits under medicare as they did under private healthcare
Hey cptrguru......I must have the "abridged" copy of the U. S. Constitution on my desk. But I looked and my Articlel II only has 4 sections. What am I missing? Perhaps those are the sections I've been using for toilet paper, because that's all the U. S. Constitution is good for after the Socialists, Marxists and Communists in our Congress have done to it.
Also, I didn't hear that this Doctor is advocating public health care. Just the opposite. If the major networks won't let you on .....
This guy isn't just drunk on Kool-Aide, I think he's snorting it right out of the packet. Plus, who cares what this guy thinks, he's not my doctor and I am very thankful. Somebody needs to shut him him up and put him back to work being a doctor not a propaganda puppet playing the part of a political pundit.
every dolt thinks things happen on acciedent, like tv was made to only entertain...it cracks me up. absolutes are usually never my thing, but this is absolutely halarious. as if gov. didn't contrive almost all wrinkles by now... am i in the twilight zone or what?
Single-payer Medicare...you pay 45+ years before using. Pay every payday hoping the system will not be bankrupt before eligible. Same as SS. Not enough workers to support retirees. Solution? Add 45-50 M people to program? Pretend it's Public Option, but it's expanded Medicare/Medicaid. How can it be deficit neutral if newly insured begin using services immediately instead of paying in 50 yrs 1st ? What private insurance do you pay for 50 yrs before recieving benefits? Competition or control?
lol...funny how when obama was asked if he would use this healthcare system, would NOT answer the question. moreover, congress FLATOUT, said that they WILL NOT be subjected to the current government health care proposed legislation...wake up, people.
Yep, works in Canada. This recently from the Vancouver Sun:
"A Vancouver Coastal Health Authority document shows it is considering chopping more than 6,000 surgeries in an effort to make up for a dramatic budgetary shortfall that could reach $200 million."
Apparantly this particular Doctor hasn't had to find another Doctor who accepts Medicare! My mother is in her mid 80's and since turning 80 has had 3 primary care physicians since each one has dropped MEDICARE because they were not getting reimbursed in a timely fashion or were not being reimbursed enough to cover their expenses. Sorry Doc - it is not an effective system.
"Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated."
--Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Albert Gallatin, 1817
"We must confine ourselves to the powers described in the Constitution, and the moment we pass it, we take an arbitrary stride towards a despotic Government."
-- James Jackson, First Congress, 1st Annals of Congress, 489
Article 2, Section 8 of the Constitution... might try reading it sometime.
Up is down and down is up. Single payer works!!?? Unbelieveable, it is going broke, estimates by the GAO indicate that there is 10% Fraud involved in this government run program. It is also subsidized by private plans which are charged more by hospitals to make up for the loses on Medicare. And on and on and on.
Why not? Could it be because of expenses such as outrageous malpractice insurance and covering healthcare for their own employees? I agree, why not start there? Because our President is afraid to go after his own brethren. They are all in cahoots.
Single payer works??? The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association Dr. Anne Doig: "We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize Dr. Robert Ouellet, the current president of the CMA, who has said there's a critical need to make Canada's health-care system patient-centered."
JUST SAY NO to government controlled ANYTHING. this is supposed to be a FREE COUNTRY & we are heading in the wrong directions. only 15% of our population is without healthcare!!! what about the 85% that are OK???
It is actually less than 15%, its more like 12 mil or 3.8%. Then again that was before massive unemployment of 10%, so I guess one could say that the rate of uninsured people is going up.
Not to mention, that out of that 15% of Americans who are without healthcare, that some are college students who actually OPT OUT of being covered under their parents' plan or do not want to be covered under the healthcare plan offered by the colleges they attend (I have three degrees, so I know that they offer insurance on campus). Another portion of that 15% are those who are unemployed -- in which case, if their spouses have insurance, they can sign up to be covered under their plan.
(con't from below) Another segment of the 15% of American population w/o healthcare, are also older people who opt out of paying for health insurance, simply because they would rather pay for their doctor visits out of their own pockets. As healthy as most of the 15% are, they don't need to do anything other than visiting their docs for occasional check-ups every six months; so why pay thousands a year for insurance? This is America, that is their choice and not the gov't's! Get my drift?
(con't from below) So why should 85% of Americans who are satisfied with their healthcare plans, be subject to having to pay for healthcare for the other 15%, most of who exercised their right to opt out? No, there is another underlying reason for this plan. It is not meant to cover just Americans; it is also intended to cover the influx of illegal aliens coming into the United States at any given time, as they are the ones who are also dwindling our Social Security down to nothing!
don't forget that another part of that 15% qualify for medicare or medicaid and have decided not to sign up. plus, the part of the 15% that don't have insurance because they've lost their job (and don't have a spouse) typically find employment and gain insurance again shortly thereafter. even after we completely change the current healthcare system for those 15%, there will still be 15 million people who don't have health insurance.
Medicare now costs half a trillion dollars a year, to cover just 14% of the population. Five years from now 18% of all Americans will be enrolled in Medicare, and the cost will be an incredible $730 billion---almost three times the 2003 figure of $249 billion.
ABC should have let this guy speak, and then have someone who could describe how well (not!) the Canadian and British single-payer systems work. More discussion of the alternatives, not less, will lead people to reject Obamacare.
If the system works so well, the obvious question is how long will it continue to work? It's bankrupt! So much for government single payer systems. The politicians can't keep their hands off the money the government collects to pay for medical care now. What makes you think that will change?
Obama showing respect to an elder, one we have openly been allied with for many years is commentable. I think the meek rule the earth.. not those who posture greatness. my guess is restlessdude also has an authority complex.
Obama did Bow to the Saudi King and make no mistake about it.. I am sure he did it out of respect but a Bow is a Bow.. As for Government run health care, ask the veterans how they like the care there getting from Big Brother..
You don't expect liberals to really say anything truthful do you. I have seen a long line of talking heads touting single payer on ABC so their claim in the video is a lie.
Doesn't matter anyway, the door is creeking shut on government run healthcare. Sorry Mr Pres, you under estimate the resolve of the American people when faced with a life changing event. These are not NY or Cali liberals either, these folks live in what you disgracefully call fly-over country. You know, the heart of America.
Medicare works? It is BANKRUPT!!! And for the new OBAMACARE, they will take billions from Medicare and Medicaid that they don't have. These people are NUTS! Anyone that is over 60 years of age had better pray that this fails because they plan to fix Social Security with this Obamacare. I hope you understand what that means. Bye, Bye!
Sign a petition because the NETWORKS ARE CENSORING? ARE YOU PEOPLE NUTS?? Television censoring IS GOING TO BE THE LEAST OF YOUR PROBLEMS. In fact, please call your media outlets today AND THANK THEM FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE MESS WE ARE IN TODAY BY REFUSING TO REPORT FAIRLY. Watch Glenn Beck tonight and Friday to see what is REALLY HAPPENING at the top levels and WHO is advising your great President,
Yes, Medicare reimbursements to docs and hospitals are much lower than the costs, and private insurance has to make up that difference. But, it's essential to remember that when you turn 65, you have NO choice. You are automatically on Medicare as your primary insurance. I would have chosen to keep the plan I had. NO CHOICE about the primary, and Medicare B costs you another $96 monthly. And all over 65 will have no choice about being in this plan. Seniors are rightfully worried.
This dr.'s comments are a joke! I am a health care professional and I have spoken with several physicians about Medicare and they believe Medicare needs and should be restructured.....
Medicare works? It only works because it's subsidized by the rest of us who pay higher prices to balance out those who pay nothing at all. Plus, read my lips ... "Unfunded entitlement."
Folks, the radicals have a plan to take over the freedom of normal, hard working Americans from within. It started officially on January 20th, 2009. Just look at the appointments of the Administration. There is a line in the sand. Don't listen to the words look at the results. Let me suggest this, the goal is to overwhelm the system so that the government must solve the crisis.Beware!
This may be the DUMBEST claim I have ever seen on youtube...There have been DOZENS of single payer advocates on ABC....they parade them in and out daily - they call them Democrats. They have Barak himself on DAILY - advocating for a single payer system......Maybe this guy was "uninvited" - if it is indeed true- becuse NO ONE CARES what he thinks?" Whoever posted this video is high...
'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
"Loving my neighbor as myself" does not mean creating a huge government bureaucracy that will be bad for both me and my neighbor. I should voluntarily help my neighbor, not have the government forcibly take from some to give to others.
Define "works". Ask you doctor what they are paid for the procedure you had. Ask them if sometimes they are not paid at all. Ask them if they are allowed to work in a hospital if they do not accept Medicare. Sample of the first statement. The doctor is paid $280 to perform cataract surgery. Doctors are in the system because they are "blackmailed". This worked when the rest of the insurance paid more. It used to be 80% of the patients paid enough to give charity to the 20%. It is reversed now.
I'm sorry but I've listened to this clearly and I still think he's saying Medicare "works"? I think what he means by "works" is that doctors who learn how to "work" the system can make a lot of money.
Anything else you want outlawed, hrb266? I mean while we're outlawing things you don't like.
Maybe hard work? Or, how 'bout bills? You know, those pesky things that come in the mail once a month. Or, how 'bout lines in stores? Yes, lets outlaw the lines in stores! Have Uncle Sam buy us everything, and ship it to us for free. Yeah, that'll work!!
WRONG...medicare is BROKE, they spend way more per patient than Health ins and yet they pay doctors less than ins does..WASTE and beaurocracy. Many health care facilities won't take it.
PS, health medical insurance is simply a contract that is covered by contract law. Solve the problem of high health medical costs, outlaw health medical insurance.
All of you supporters of socialism should go back to you schools and sue for your tuition back, since you didn't learn anything bu indoctrination into communistic idiocy.
You are playing into their game of "Repubs vs. Dems." They have also tried to divide us by race, class, gender, sexuality, and the list goes on. Who cares who belongs to what party? They are all the same, and they all want absolute power. I don't care where Obama is from; I just don't want him to institute another massive failed government venture (like every other gov't venture). The question the Obamaniacs fail to answer is:
How is the VA doing? Medicare, Medicaid, Soc. Security?
I've been paying into Social Security for 40 years and I doubt it will be there in 10 years. If it is it won't be worth a damn because of inflation caused by all this deficit spending. I wish all the FICA Ive paid was in my 401k instead. Just another example of how well government programs work. Now these fools want to trust the Feds with our health care.
Do call and let your voices be heard. If you want what Obama wants, single-payer system and the biggest national debt you never could imagine, call the Republicans. Tell them NO to tort reform, yes to setting doctors' pay (the lower the better).
When the system becomes so cumbersome that the people are thrown into chaos, Obama will be there to rebuild America as it SHOULD be. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. And Obama will be the boss of you.
The time to take action is now. You need to CALL and let your voices be heard. Visit the comment section of my profile in order to see how you can get more involved and for the facts regarding health care reform. Thanks
This guy seriously contends that there's no single-payer "spokesman" out there. Nonsense. President Obama himself has advocated for a single-payer system. How's that for influence? Also, 47 million is a fictitious number. 12 million are illegal aliens, 14 million already qualify for VA or medicaid but haven't enrolled, and 9 million make over 75K a year and could buy their own insurance but for some reason haven't. That leaves 12 million. That's a lot, but a lot less that 47 million.
They re-sell BCBS Health Insurance (at least in California).
Former GE (NBC) CEO Jack Welsh one time said "Why would I let one division of my company (NBC) hurt another division (Gen Electric defense contractor)?
I read the proposed House bill, it amazes me how much mis-information is being circulated to scare Americans in order to protect corporate profits and huge campaign donations. 47 million without health care, 15, 000 losing health care daily, paying the highest rates for health care in the world; something is terribly wrong. One cannot trust politicians, one cannot trust the news media; Americans have to take responsibility and get the facts for themselves.
Anyone who wants to read the bill for yourself and get the facts can do so. I have provided a link to it in the comment section of my profile for anyone who has trouble finding it. We also need to contact our representatives and let them know what we think.. I have phone numbers and other ways in which you can do that on my profile as well. Thank you.
We ARE contacting our representatives and we're figuring out how to do it all by ourselves.
We're telling them what we think.
We getting demonized by Obama, Pelosi, Reid, etc.
I've read HR 3200 myself. The devil's in the details, as always. Sounds like They are trying to not-so-gently force unwilling Americans into single-payer (GOVERNMENT) health insurance, while cynically pretending they're not. Don't you wonder why?
I don't have to wonder why.. I know to many people that are currently in need of medical care that cannot afford it.. I know to many people who have gone bankrupt because of overwhelming medical bills even though they had insurance and I know to many who have already died while waiting. I know why.
So you're pretty much satisfied that the only way to get your many, many acquaintances who need but can't afford health care is to force 100% of Americans into a single-payer plan?
You must have a VERY, VERY wide circle of acquaintances (diminished, of course, by the many who died "while waiting") but I think you lack imagination.
Since nobody is being forced into a single payer plan I am completely satisfied. Tell Lies Much?
If you don't have friends and acquaintances that would benefit from a public option plan then perhaps you don't get out much and or you are a snob. If you don't think this is a huge issue than your imagination is working overtime.
First, if my opinion meant "nothing," you wouldn't have replied.
Second, you have obviously NOT read the bill, at least not HR 3200. Not only will it tax the crap out of anyone who doesn't follow Government's orders but it will also gradually ease people OUT of private insurance by not allowing insurance companies to write new policies and by not letting you renew your own policy if ANYTHING in the policy changes.
All that to be sure pre-existing conditions are covered?? I think NOT.
You know it is really stupid to lie the way you are knowing that the truth will come out because when it passes and none of those things happen you will look like nothing but a fool. Yes there is a tax so that people who do not choose to have insurance of any kind will be covered in an emergency... currently all of the taxpayers pick up that tab. I see nothing wrong with them helping.. however the tax will not be astonomical the way you are implying and if you read the bill you would know that.
Nope, the tax will not be astronomical. On the other hand, if you were young and healthy and had other uses for that money, you might be ticked. But Obama & Pelosi & Reid know better how to spend the guy's money, right?
And if they tax an employer 8% if his employees aren't insured, but he's now paying 15% to insure his employees...will his employees get to keep their insurance if they like it? Only if the employer hates to make a profit.
People don't always agree with wars yet we all have to pay for them. Not everyone is on Medicare yet that too is taken out of your check so that you will have it when you need it... even when you are young and healthy. People who don't ever have a fire still pay taxes that go to support that. People who don't drive still pay for road repairs. Why should this be treated differently? As far as the rest of your comment you need to look up information about the exchange.
National defense IS a constitutional duty of the federal government, health care is NOT.
Some towns have volunteer fire departments; their citizens don't pay for fire protection. UNFAIR!!!
THEORETICALLY, since roads are paid for thru gasoline taxes, people who don't drive DON'T pay for road repairs.
You haven't Googled the Cloward-Piven strategy, have you. It's not hard to understand and you'll recognize who's doing exactly what Cloward & Piven advocated.
The Democrats do the same thing. Both parties are their to protect their rich corporate friends. Republicans write them a check with the taxpayer's money, the Democrats just hand them the taxpayer's cash.
advocating single payer is too fringe and scary for the big corporate media. Questioning President Obama's citizenship (when his birth records are readily available and the republican governor of his birth state guarantees those records) is not too fringe and scary for the big corporate media.
geez, you're a slow conservatard. that was last month. this month, you're supposed to be terrified of death panels. don't you get the talking points in email?
I do not trust the governor of Hawaii. With all the controversy over it, and if it is there in Hawaii, why not just show it? Or is there is something to hide?
And by the way....if you are schtupping my mother you are a very sick little puppy in as much as she has been dead for 22 years. Thats probably longer than you have been alive.
the questions you pretend to raise have been asked and answered. suffice to say, you're an idiot, a tin-foil hate conspiracy theorist, and three weeks late with conservatard talking points.
but I'm laughing at you just as hard as I laughed at you people a month ago.
If we had PRIVATE police protection, PRIVATE fire departments, ALL PRIVATE education.....a very large percentage of the "so called anti-we the people" would have a different perspective......because they would have to dig extra deep into their already overbulging wallets.
Some even believe we (the Rockefeller family) are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as internationalists and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.
Obama is a "Pre-approved" president. Democracy does not exist in the United States. Sadly, Obama is not different from a car salesman. What scares me the most is the fact that "the privatized government of the USA will create 'the problem' to then offer 'the bias Solution' to it." Democrats will fight Republicans and viceversa, but in their minds there is only one purpose: "to wag their tails to their Masters." The american nightmare has been sold to the people as the american dream.
It is amazing that people still call Obama a socialist. What a joke -- budding fascist is more like it. And if you don't believe this check out all the news about Goldman Sachs this week.

What an idiot. Nothing the government ever does just "works". It is always over-budget, always grows out of control, and always fails at its primary goal.

lb5277 2 years ago 3
Single payer Medicare may work from the perception of its customers. But socialism breeds socialism - by disconnecting those "satisfied customers" from the true cost of health care, demand is increased, and then those extra and subsidized costs are transferred to the rest of the system. Then the "private sector" with its added costs are accused of being more greedy. So the initial "government solution" (medicare) contributes to the alleged reason a further "government solution" is necessary.

JUST SAY NO to government controlled ANYTHING. this is supposed to be a FREE COUNTRY & we are heading in the wrong directions. only 15% of our population is without healthcare!!! what about the 85% that are OK???
redcs13ab 2 years ago 4
It is actually less than 15%, its more like 12 mil or 3.8%. Then again that was before massive unemployment of 10%, so I guess one could say that the rate of uninsured people is going up.
pholt34 2 years ago
Not to mention, that out of that 15% of Americans who are without healthcare, that some are college students who actually OPT OUT of being covered under their parents' plan or do not want to be covered under the healthcare plan offered by the colleges they attend (I have three degrees, so I know that they offer insurance on campus). Another portion of that 15% are those who are unemployed -- in which case, if their spouses have insurance, they can sign up to be covered under their plan.
LisaClark45 2 years ago 4
(con't from below) Another segment of the 15% of American population w/o healthcare, are also older people who opt out of paying for health insurance, simply because they would rather pay for their doctor visits out of their own pockets. As healthy as most of the 15% are, they don't need to do anything other than visiting their docs for occasional check-ups every six months; so why pay thousands a year for insurance? This is America, that is their choice and not the gov't's! Get my drift?
LisaClark45 2 years ago
(con't from below) So why should 85% of Americans who are satisfied with their healthcare plans, be subject to having to pay for healthcare for the other 15%, most of who exercised their right to opt out? No, there is another underlying reason for this plan. It is not meant to cover just Americans; it is also intended to cover the influx of illegal aliens coming into the United States at any given time, as they are the ones who are also dwindling our Social Security down to nothing!
LisaClark45 2 years ago 4
don't forget that another part of that 15% qualify for medicare or medicaid and have decided not to sign up. plus, the part of the 15% that don't have insurance because they've lost their job (and don't have a spouse) typically find employment and gain insurance again shortly thereafter. even after we completely change the current healthcare system for those 15%, there will still be 15 million people who don't have health insurance.
anonymouselucy 2 years ago
Medicare now costs half a trillion dollars a year, to cover just 14% of the population. Five years from now 18% of all Americans will be enrolled in Medicare, and the cost will be an incredible $730 billion---almost three times the 2003 figure of $249 billion.

Seniors are rightfully worried.

apokradical 2 years ago
Define "works". Ask you doctor what they are paid for the procedure you had. Ask them if sometimes they are not paid at all. Ask them if they are allowed to work in a hospital if they do not accept Medicare. Sample of the first statement. The doctor is paid $280 to perform cataract surgery. Doctors are in the system because they are "blackmailed". This worked when the rest of the insurance paid more. It used to be 80% of the patients paid enough to give charity to the 20%. It is reversed now.

I don't have to wonder why.. I know to many people that are currently in need of medical care that cannot afford it.. I know to many people who have gone bankrupt because of overwhelming medical bills even though they had insurance and I know to many who have already died while waiting. I know why.
Smartassawhip 2 years ago
So you're pretty much satisfied that the only way to get your many, many acquaintances who need but can't afford health care is to force 100% of Americans into a single-payer plan?
You must have a VERY, VERY wide circle of acquaintances (diminished, of course, by the many who died "while waiting") but I think you lack imagination.
minowekay 2 years ago
Since nobody is being forced into a single payer plan I am completely satisfied. Tell Lies Much?
If you don't have friends and acquaintances that would benefit from a public option plan then perhaps you don't get out much and or you are a snob. If you don't think this is a huge issue than your imagination is working overtime.
Your Opinion Means Nothing To Me.
Smartassawhip 2 years ago
First, if my opinion meant "nothing," you wouldn't have replied.
Second, you have obviously NOT read the bill, at least not HR 3200. Not only will it tax the crap out of anyone who doesn't follow Government's orders but it will also gradually ease people OUT of private insurance by not allowing insurance companies to write new policies and by not letting you renew your own policy if ANYTHING in the policy changes.
All that to be sure pre-existing conditions are covered?? I think NOT.
minowekay 2 years ago
You know it is really stupid to lie the way you are knowing that the truth will come out because when it passes and none of those things happen you will look like nothing but a fool. Yes there is a tax so that people who do not choose to have insurance of any kind will be covered in an emergency... currently all of the taxpayers pick up that tab. I see nothing wrong with them helping.. however the tax will not be astonomical the way you are implying and if you read the bill you would know that.
Smartassawhip 2 years ago
Nope, the tax will not be astronomical. On the other hand, if you were young and healthy and had other uses for that money, you might be ticked. But Obama & Pelosi & Reid know better how to spend the guy's money, right?
And if they tax an employer 8% if his employees aren't insured, but he's now paying 15% to insure his employees...will his employees get to keep their insurance if they like it? Only if the employer hates to make a profit.
Google Cloward-Piven. They're doin' it NOW.
minowekay 2 years ago
People don't always agree with wars yet we all have to pay for them. Not everyone is on Medicare yet that too is taken out of your check so that you will have it when you need it... even when you are young and healthy. People who don't ever have a fire still pay taxes that go to support that. People who don't drive still pay for road repairs. Why should this be treated differently? As far as the rest of your comment you need to look up information about the exchange.
Smartassawhip 2 years ago
National defense IS a constitutional duty of the federal government, health care is NOT.
Some towns have volunteer fire departments; their citizens don't pay for fire protection. UNFAIR!!!
THEORETICALLY, since roads are paid for thru gasoline taxes, people who don't drive DON'T pay for road repairs.
You haven't Googled the Cloward-Piven strategy, have you. It's not hard to understand and you'll recognize who's doing exactly what Cloward & Piven advocated.

Republicans do not care about the people , and they only want to protect their rich corporate friends.
Learnthetruth100 2 years ago
The Democrats do the same thing. Both parties are their to protect their rich corporate friends. Republicans write them a check with the taxpayer's money, the Democrats just hand them the taxpayer's cash.

You know, you just might be right.

advocating single payer is too fringe and scary for the big corporate media. Questioning President Obama's citizenship (when his birth records are readily available and the republican governor of his birth state guarantees those records) is not too fringe and scary for the big corporate media.
you figure it out.

Kata that was a great comment.

Where is the record of birth? Long form with mother, father and doctor listed?

geez, you're a slow conservatard. that was last month. this month, you're supposed to be terrified of death panels. don't you get the talking points in email?
KataVideo 2 years ago
No but obviously you do....Do you get them direct from Rahm Emanuel or do they come through his puppet 0bama?
Does you mommy know you are on the computer?

Does your mommy know I'm schtupping her?

and btw, it's in Hawaii and was verified about the REPUBLICAN governor. are you saying you do not trust the REPUBLICAN governor of Hawaii?
KataVideo 2 years ago
I do not trust the governor of Hawaii. With all the controversy over it, and if it is there in Hawaii, why not just show it? Or is there is something to hide?
And by the way....if you are schtupping my mother you are a very sick little puppy in as much as she has been dead for 22 years. Thats probably longer than you have been alive.
jackson29 2 years ago 2
Maybe it's YOUR mommy you are schtupping....
jackson29 2 years ago
no it's definitely jackson29's mother who I am schtupping.

Ok so you are a necrophiliac and we should be concerned about you opinion because?

the questions you pretend to raise have been asked and answered. suffice to say, you're an idiot, a tin-foil hate conspiracy theorist, and three weeks late with conservatard talking points.
but I'm laughing at you just as hard as I laughed at you people a month ago.

We need more of this to move our citizenry

If we had PRIVATE police protection, PRIVATE fire departments, ALL PRIVATE education.....a very large percentage of the "so called anti-we the people" would have a different perspective......because they would have to dig extra deep into their already overbulging wallets.

Obama is a fascist war criminal.

What scares me the most is the fact that "the privatized government of the USA will create 'the problem' to then offer 'the bias Solution' to it." Democrats will fight Republicans and viceversa, but in their minds there is only one purpose: "to wag their tails to their Masters." The american nightmare has been sold to the people as the american dream.
jona95822 2 years ago
It is amazing that people still call Obama a socialist. What a joke -- budding fascist is more like it. And if you don't believe this check out all the news about Goldman Sachs this week.

The right wing media has so many gullible Americans afraid of anything that might actually be in their own best interests.

Gullible Americans -- those who think Obama is still working in their best interest in the area of healthcare and many others.
