  • Definition of "interpretation": "a stylistic representation of a creative work or dramatic role.... bearing the distinctive hallmarks of the writer's perspective". Ergo, creative license encouraged and so long as the melody is being honoured I don't see the problem. Perhaps in this case Beethoven didn't get it all right. Perhaps Joshua did. Has anyone noticed he doesn't even once look at the neck whilst he's playing? He "feels" it all, which by my last recognition is an "interpretation". Dig?

  • 2:34 - 2:46.... The reaction from the woman in the front row reflects my own.

  • He tries hard but he just doesn´t quite get there. Also, he skips notes and adds others of his own. Not a very true interpretation of Beethoven.

  • love it at 8:50

    Best part!!!

  • hey people i emjoy music very much, this for me sounds really really good!! like wow!!

do you think its posible to make mistakes in a live performence?? its the sound live cause it doesnt sound to me but im not expert.. can someone tell? i just wonder..

  • I cant but laugh about 3 people voting that they disliked this. I guess ol Joshua here, doesnt play near as well as they do. ;)

  • @jesusjones5151 So, I guess since I don't play I have to like all music?

  • @wtinnen

I'd love to hear what it is you didnt like about this performance.

Please enlighten the rest of us that we may better understand...

  • @jesusjones5151

Who said I didn't like it. I was making a point about your strange comment. I love Joshua Bell, but not because he plays better than me. However, their are many artist who are better musicians than I that I can't stand, e.g. Justin Bieber. He definitely sings better than I do, but...

  • @wtinnen what fucking idiot

  • @jesusjones350 Great, another internet tough guy :P

  • @jesusjones350 Wow, it took you an entire year to come up with that?

  • so hushed.... reallyt beautiful.

i like hte way he plays with his eyes shut, listening....

WHO wrote THIS cadenza? It seems like he's making it up as he goes, but then he's got wonderful feeling and insight into the phrasing of this music....

  • @1psoas9 The cadenza is probably his own. Most violinists of his stature write their own cadenzas.

  • hermoso larghetto

  • Its sad, yet so sweet! Its the music from a genius with a broken heart.

  • Perfect!!!

  • I'm almost about to cry.....

  • Where is your wheel chair and oxigen mask Josh? You look pitiful.

  • The facial expressions and body movements convey the feeling that Joshua feels within him. It gives me a deeper appreciation for his playing. His expression adds value to the whole performance. Beautiful and inspiring. It is most relaxing and has a calming effect. Thank you Joshua.

Meraviglioso e insuperabile beethoven, stupendo, romantico e sensuale joshua Bell.

Continuamente riascolto e continuamente rimango incantato. Meravigliosi i musicisti, insuperabile il violinista solista.

Che musica, che emozioni, che grande gioia ascoltare.

    Amazing/beautifull

    Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Da.Divin.abcmd.

  • Beautiful song and fantastic instrument "gibson ex huberman" ... i like

  • I did hear Jennifer Frautschi play Stravinski, she is wonderful. I can't find her doing this peice in any videos, yet.

  • Stef

For you this may be a lesser take, but if you have never heard his better version I think he does a wonderful job. This is my favorite peice of music, and I have heard many people do it. This is as brillant as anyone.

  • Your right this was not one his best works... something is lacking. And i know as i know every note of this concert2.But then again it is uch better than some i have heard..........

  • yeah, you know, it sounds SOOO different from a recording I heard on the radio (dunno who is the violinist tho)

bell is out of tune isn't he???

but I am so used to his version that his seems to be the right one so when I heard the other radio dude, it was so jarring.

  • I am watching this, stuck alone in an office, trying to write my monthly report and not weep at the same time at the beauty and expressiveness of Beethoven and Joshua Bell. Bell is the deliverer of fine music, as if it were a magical sound he found hidden between some pages of music, and which it is now his duty to convey the listener - a precious gift which he is performing. It's a very different experience to Vengerov's performance of the same piece. Both quite brilliant, but different.

  • @pokerTVC15 I'm with you - this performance actually made me want to start practicing the piano again, 18 years after I had changed careers. I would listen esp. to the last movement and weep at the beauty of it.

  • Ok, before I get bashed for what I'm about to say, let me preface it by also saying that Joshua and I are friends, and he is an INCREDIBLE violinist (I own almost all of this recordings). That being said, I don't think this performance was his best (granted, the sound quality on YouTube isn't excellent either). IMO, Jennifer Frautschi does an amazing job with this concerto; I was blown away the first time I heard her perform. The 3rd movement of this performance is spot-on though.

  • i am a violinist/violist and joshua bell is the most amazing violinist in the world he has played the best of tchaivosky's violin concerto opus 42 number 6

  • And I don't if anyone knows but this movement of this concerto was mentioned in a book...I forgot the book but I remember reading it in high school in like 9th grade. It was some book about like these people who were in the Holocaust period and they were being held by the Nazi's. Like, they were running in the snow or whatever for miles and miles. There was a part when they weren't running and were at a camp where it said the guy played his heart out this movement. It was so inspiring.

  • I think about that time in my life and the book every time I heard this. I love it.

  • the books called night. i read it last year in ca.

  • Night? by Elie Wiesel?

  • yeah :)

  • I've had the joy and pleasure of experiencing David Oistrakh, Solerno-Sonnenberg, Stern and Perlman - this man is there, with them.

    I am also a violinist.

    He is amazing.

  • I know right, he's fricking awesome

  • I read, one of his violin is a copy of stradivardius? it is beautiful and his play also so awesome!

  • One of his violin's *is* an original circa 1710 strad if I'm not mistaken (Bronislaw Huberman's old axe actually).

  • That was beautiful. I tend not to like the violin, too squeeky, but I love his playing. :)

  • Mr. Bell: THANK you !

    Your art is wonderful

  • if we're going to argue about instruments can well at least spell them correctly?

  • what da heck u r rong... its not a chello Lol!!1 its a banjo dont u no

  • i like jingle bellz more. he doesn't even know how to play the chello rite.

  • u r so rite!!!11

  • God! I love Bell's playing. But somehow for this particular movement, I prefer Anne Sophie Mutter's and Von Karajan's rendition.

    But this is also great!

  • Bell plays like hell! :-)

Simply great - both technique and heart!

Mr. Bell - just if you read my comment: THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this world a better place to live in through your wonderful interpretations of wonderful music!!!

  • look at those facial expressions.

  • Nice music :)!

  • I think you are jealous

  • i think u r fun

  • me too :)

  • How can you say that if the only thing I did is THANK Mr. Bell ???

  • How can you say that if the only thing I did is THANK Mr. Bell ???

  • That is the nuts :)

  • Very nice - I don't see a conductor - is this the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra?

  • why's he so shiny?

  • That's the glare of enthusiasm.

  • he's probably sweating and if not then he greases his face before concert(likely)

  • He and andre reiu are two of the best violinist who ever have walked the face of the Earth!!!

  • there's no one like him. HI'S THE GREATEST VIOLINIST EVER!!!!

  • I would say that Itzhak Perlman is the best!

  • Hes DA BEST!!!

  • i went to a philharmonic in california, and had the chance to personally meet him and get his autoghraph. i also got a once in a lifetime chance to get some advice on my violin!!!

  • he's brilliant but how are you meant to watch him without laughing??

  • what do you mean?
