Definition of "interpretation": "a stylistic representation of a creative work or dramatic role.... bearing the distinctive hallmarks of the writer's perspective". Ergo, creative license encouraged and so long as the melody is being honoured I don't see the problem. Perhaps in this case Beethoven didn't get it all right. Perhaps Joshua did. Has anyone noticed he doesn't even once look at the neck whilst he's playing? He "feels" it all, which by my last recognition is an "interpretation". Dig?
hey people i emjoy music very much, this for me sounds really really good!! like wow!!
do you think its posible to make mistakes in a live performence?? its the sound live cause it doesnt sound to me but im not expert.. can someone tell? i just wonder..
Who said I didn't like it. I was making a point about your strange comment. I love Joshua Bell, but not because he plays better than me. However, their are many artist who are better musicians than I that I can't stand, e.g. Justin Bieber. He definitely sings better than I do, but...
i like hte way he plays with his eyes shut, listening....
WHO wrote THIS cadenza? It seems like he's making it up as he goes, but then he's got wonderful feeling and insight into the phrasing of this music....
Quando na vida as palavras não são necessárias, a música torna-se linguagem, verbalizando a excelência de sentimentos, a supremacia de uma obra completa, a divindade humana e o som.
The facial expressions and body movements convey the feeling that Joshua feels within him. It gives me a deeper appreciation for his playing. His expression adds value to the whole performance. Beautiful and inspiring. It is most relaxing and has a calming effect. Thank you Joshua.
For you this may be a lesser take, but if you have never heard his better version I think he does a wonderful job. This is my favorite peice of music, and I have heard many people do it. This is as brillant as anyone.
Your right this was not one his best works... something is lacking. And i know as i know every note of this concert2.But then again it is uch better than some i have heard..........
I am watching this, stuck alone in an office, trying to write my monthly report and not weep at the same time at the beauty and expressiveness of Beethoven and Joshua Bell. Bell is the deliverer of fine music, as if it were a magical sound he found hidden between some pages of music, and which it is now his duty to convey the listener - a precious gift which he is performing. It's a very different experience to Vengerov's performance of the same piece. Both quite brilliant, but different.
@pokerTVC15 I'm with you - this performance actually made me want to start practicing the piano again, 18 years after I had changed careers. I would listen esp. to the last movement and weep at the beauty of it.
Ok, before I get bashed for what I'm about to say, let me preface it by also saying that Joshua and I are friends, and he is an INCREDIBLE violinist (I own almost all of this recordings). That being said, I don't think this performance was his best (granted, the sound quality on YouTube isn't excellent either). IMO, Jennifer Frautschi does an amazing job with this concerto; I was blown away the first time I heard her perform. The 3rd movement of this performance is spot-on though.
i am a violinist/violist and joshua bell is the most amazing violinist in the world he has played the best of tchaivosky's violin concerto opus 42 number 6
And I don't if anyone knows but this movement of this concerto was mentioned in a book...I forgot the book but I remember reading it in high school in like 9th grade. It was some book about like these people who were in the Holocaust period and they were being held by the Nazi's. Like, they were running in the snow or whatever for miles and miles. There was a part when they weren't running and were at a camp where it said the guy played his heart out this movement. It was so inspiring.
Mr. Bell - just if you read my comment: THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this world a better place to live in through your wonderful interpretations of wonderful music!!!
i went to a philharmonic in california, and had the chance to personally meet him and get his autoghraph. i also got a once in a lifetime chance to get some advice on my violin!!!
I think and believe his perform and feeling is very good .Sound is loud and clear plenty of feeling and emotion.I believe he is one of the best violinist in the World now.
that was way better than the other video i just watched of him playing another movement of this piece with the same orchestra. still. not the best ive heard but acceptional.

Es muy raro escuchar cadenza al final del largueto, pero si algunos violinistas lo hacen
aunque ciertamente tampoco se de quien es....?

He tries hard but he just doesn´t quite get there. Also, he skips notes and adds others of his own. Not a very true interpretation of Beethoven.

@1psoas9 The cadenza is probably his own. Most violinists of his stature write their own cadenzas.

bell is out of tune isn't he???
but I am so used to his version that his seems to be the right one so when I heard the other radio dude, it was so jarring.

Bellissimo fraseggio, ma quello che manca a Bell è il vibrato dei grandi interpreti di questo concerto.

One of his violin's *is* an original circa 1710 strad if I'm not mistaken (Bronislaw Huberman's old axe actually).
