you know, bernstein may be dead. but his music certainly lives on. and though the music itself is the same and will be so forever, the meaning of it changes with each new generation of interpreters.
It is absolutely ridiculous that Leonard Bernstein is dead. I just read this morning about an artist who, at the age of 112, is mounting his first exhibition, and LB would only be ninety next month...how can we continue to allow people to die? We have the technology to prolong life. Death is disgusting, it's immoral, it's bad. Bernstein could have written so much more music, taught so many more people...we must stop people from dying. I'm serious. I'm sick of death. No more!
Yes, death should be outlawed! We just need to find another planet to house everyone. No I agree re Bernstein - wonderful musician, composer, conductor, teacher... the Maestro! Thank God for the internet for his works can be viewed by millions.
A big help in stopping death would be to stop people smoking tobacco products which almost certainly caused Lennie to die 10 years before he needed to.
It is strange how critics give music fans false ideas, according to them Klemperer always conducted too slow, Bernstein always too fast etc this version by LB I would say is slow , certainly compared with the Bruno Walter version also on You Tube.
And it was the critics who forced Bernstein to leave USA, because they thought he was too extravagant, slow and egotistical; shows critics know very little.
So out of tune...

Bernstein sound was very rough in 1950s and '60s, but it became very sophisticated after '70s.
