Great to see combat wrestling getting some attention. And to those saying it is just jiu jitsu: Imanari was a leglock master before he took up bjj too.

This isnt wrestling, this is grappling. Looks like a blend of wrestling and jiu jitsu, but this in no way fits any wrestling rules system.

@zaphbrannigan ...yes, but it isn't wrestling. If I posted a video that said "Baseball game" and the video was of a tennis match it would be incorrect. It's posted by "grapplers quest", it's confusing why it says it's a wrestling tournament when clearly it is a grappling tournament.

@ooogooman Really now? Because 'wrestling' and 'grappling' was first ever practiced by caucasions in Rome. Why are so many people butt hurt because this video is incorrectly titled? It's not wrestling, has little to even do with wresting of any form, greco, freestyle, colligate, anything. It's jiu jitsu inspired grappling, suck it up and move on!

If you would like to see wrestling, type in NCAA wrestling in youtube, or attend one of my wrestling opens tournaments I compete in. Totally different. This video is, in fact, NOT Combat Wrestling. It is Jiu Jitsu inspired grappling.

@mike2finch Watch videos or read about Catch Wrestling, the roots of American Folkstyle and Olympic Freestyle Wrestling. Grappling has roots in Catch Wrestling, Judo, BJJ, and other classic styles of grappling from around the world. This Combat Wrestling from Japan is Japan's version of what we call here in the US, "Grappling" and it has roots in Catch and Shoot Wrestling from Japan. To top it all off, Wrestling is a form of grappling.

@OrlyDudeGuy Wrestling like Folkstyle, Greco-Roman or Freestyle are grappling sports in which the objective is to win by points or pins. Those wrestling sports differs from Submission Wresting/Grappling where the point is to make a person tap out or submit. Even professional Wrestling from way back then was real and the way to win was by points, submission, or to knockout the person by a slam or throw and they couldn't get back up.

@OrlyDudeGuy Grappling and Wrestling was practiced in many different civilizations back in the ancient times. The Greeks and the Romans came out with the ancestors of modern western wrestling and grappling. There were Indian and other Asian forms of Grappling and Wrestling such as Malla-Yuddha from South Asia, Pahlavani from Persia, Pelwhani in India, Turkish Oil Wrestling from Turkey, Sumo and Jujutsu from Japan, and many more traditional styles out there. A bunch of them still exist today.

@OrlyDudeGuy In this video, RED won by submission. There are no submissions in wrestling. Submission fighting comes from grappling arts like Jiu Jitsu with submissions. Even if this is wrestling inspired, the techniques used are that of Jiu Jitsu fighters.

@mike2finch Okay, you still don't get it. I said that this has roots in Catch Wrestling. Catch Wrestling is a form of wrestling from way back then in which there are submissions involve. American school wrestling and Olympic Freestyle wrestling derives from Catch Wrestling which was developed in Europe. Professional wrestling in the past was based on Catch, the matches were real and there was no theatrics involved, the objective was to win by points, pins, submission, or knockout.

@OrlyDudeGuy The reason why pro wrestling matches are all predetermined now is because of show business. Anyways, Combat Wrestling is derived from Catch, Japanese Shoot Wrestling, and submission grappling, just like Submission Wrestling/Grappling, this involves winning with a submission.

@OrlyDudeGuy American Folkstyle and Olympic Freestyle come from Catch, people are allowed to grab any part of their opponent; legs, arms, torso hence "Catch as, Catch can". Folkstyle and Freestyle developed having different rules however and that's the kind of wrestling that comes into mind when people think of amateur wrestling. The rules in those sports are to win with points or pins.
