I'm guessing this version of the pilot episode is from the series' syndicated run. The original theme song was performed by the great Johnny Cash. Instead, what I hear in the opening credits sounds like a Sam Spence composition because this exact tune was used as background music by NFL Films in the early-1970s, especially if the Baltimore Colts and/or Kansas City Chiefs were involved.
My grandmother bought me his outfit for xmas in the 2nd grade (1960 or 61) & it came with the scatter gun and belt along with hat, shirt...I was Johnny Yuma. Loved the show. I couln't find these shows a few months back but glad to see them here now. one of the favs of mine among many here on You Tube. Thanks to all who post the old programs!
They ought to create a show called "The Yankee," starring someone from the Deep South, who talks with a phony "northern" accent, doing stereoptyped obnoxious, Northeastern (NY, NJ, MA) mannerisms/behaviors--THAT would be so funny!
@SchmoozeMinkey Not only that, But the bartender that first appears about 3 minutes in is Harry Bartell. When it comes to Old Time Radio, and in particular the Westerns, you name it and he did it. Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, Frontier Gentleman, and many more. He was also the spokesman for Petri wine in the Sherlock Holmes and Casebook of Gregory Hood series. Lots of TV and tons of radio. Very recognizable voice, just like William Conrad and John Dehner (who also guest starred in this show).
Strother Martin and John Carradine are in this episode, also. I vaguely remember seeing this show when I was very young. I am very surprised now at the quality of the acting, writing, and cinematography. Excellent for a 50's TV program. Still holds up well.
Nice posting - nostalgic - this was obviously before the theme song came along (right?). I used to love all those cowboy shows as a kid growing up in Wyoming
wow!!! Dan Blocker before Bonanza!!!

The director of this episode, Irvin Kershner, was later the director of the Empire Strikes Back (among other films).

Such a shame. Great actor...was in many movies and tv series. His death is like George Reeves...a mystery.

I love seeing Dan Blocker as the bad guy. This is a complete departure from his usual screen persona - the lovable oaf.

Do you have any episodes of "The legend of Jesse James" with Christopher Jones "1965"

Sorry, no I don't.

@vampiurz Is that the same Christopher Jones who played the role of Max Frost in the movie "Wild In The Streets"? What a classic flick!
