Why do people get so worked up about things and stuff that has nothing to do with them, they live in europe or w/e the fastest train is and they think they had anything to do with it. Look jump infront of this train and wait for it to hit you, its going fast. End of story.
its not the fastest train in the world.end of story.it loses, its just a normal train that goes reasonably quickly!fastest in america?who cares what the fastest in america is????its either the fastest in the world(which its not!) or nothing.thank you. :)
Lol even though that announcement is funny, it is true. The Amtrak Acela is the fastest train in the Western Hemisphere, as ridiculous that may sound :P
I can't get over the fact that they let people mill around so close to a track where a trainset passes at 150 miles per hour. Unbelievable. Look at that guy who just walked away carrying a heavy bag....what if the Acela passed him doing 150? It would give him a heart attack.
@Supdude180 Jealous of what? We don't have trains like Europe because our government chose to invest money into suburbs and the interstate highway system instead of keeping the rails alive.
The reason the US cant built faster trains is that here in the US, The tracks are open. and have freight trains on them...not closed off like in Europe. They would have to have a private right of way with fences to do 150-200 mph.
@matthewsmith465 That's because we put more focus into the airline industry. With a country the size of the U.S., trains are just not a practical means of cross-country transportation. They're more used for regional transport. However, in a smaller country like France or Japan, high speed rail is more effective.
Correction: there are 4 RR crossings that permit 110 mph in North America. There's another third crossing in Castleton-on-Hudson. So: 3 crossings in Castleton, and 1 just south of Albany.
@filmcruiser88 There are only 3 railroad crossings in North America that permit speeds over 100 mph. They're all in New York between Albany and Castleton-on-Hudson, NY. Trains can do 110 mph through those 3 crossings. 1 RR crossing is just south of Albany called Statts Island road, the other 2 are in Castleton-on-Hudson.
@trinityct - Doesn't Amtrak's Keystone Express have 110 mph railroad crossings in Lancaster County, PA along the old PRR Harrisburg-Philadelphia line?
@trinityct - If Irishtown Rd. is 100 mph, it's not as fast as those New England crossings. I thought they went through there at 110 - thanks for the update!
@AshburnStadium Only Palmer st is 100 mph. The other NEC crossings have slower speed limits. Statts Island Rd on the Empire corridor has a speed limit of 110 mph, along with 2 other crossings on the empire corridor.
WOW!! I'm shocked the FRA allows Acela to blow past station platforms at that speed. In my video response I could barely hold the camera still as a comparably slow CSX Intermodal past a station platform (and this is a low-level platform).
@matthewsmith465 very true i dunno if we will ever have anything that compete against europe i wish the us could be faster but so much speed restrictions
@AmtrakFanNEC927 I thought that these trains had to slow down for Canton viaduct, because the fastest I got through Canton was 115-130 mph, which isn't the full speed.
like in france, no RR crossing more than 160 km/h, so it is 100mph ... i have rode in the engineer's cab, when you see cars crossing before closing of gates, its a bit impressive ... i think the better track is HSL, no crossings, 300km/h + :D just enjoy the ride and laugh when overtaking cars on the highways sometimes, o shit they are stopped, no they are travelling a 80mph !!! looool
@matthewsmith465 Yeah Yeah, we know, quit rubbin' it in. (as an American I still prefer the European rail system)

@uv411 That has nothing to do with it. The Railroad maintains its own own railroad the government just sells them land to build the tracks on.

I believe Acela can easily reach 300 kph but our antiquated rails were not built for these speeds.

thats partly because the line north of New Haven was not electrified. Amtrak electrified it in the 80s-90s.
