Amazing stuff! I would buy if it was possible to release some sort of box set. You would need a white transit parked outside to house the entire collection.
I loved this show in the 80's, but it was very depressing.
I thought it was better than other "cop dramas" because the cops weren't made out to be bullies or toughs, but stressed-out, overworked, and ong-suffering.
The theme in the first series was just the drums, bass, and synth rhythm track without the melody. It sounds great as far as I'm concerned. I especially love the way it changes key towards the end of the closing titles. Just bought the first series on DVD, totally retro 80's heaven! Can't believe I used to dress like that back in the day.
One of the pairs of eyes in that clip look like they belong to Jeff Stewart, who has played Reg Hollis since 1984, and has just slashed his wrists after being sacked from the show.
I defy anyone to try and sing that original arrangement. It's like trying to sing the music for Flat Eric!
For years, the Bill was a highly acclaimed police drama. For quite a while, it featured the very beautiful Seeta Indrani as Norika Datta and the fantastic DC Frank Burnside. Now, alas, it's just another soap, with characters - police officers - doing things with each other which would result in disciplinary action in real life (at least the originals were based on reality).
I couldnt agree more - growing up i loved the bill and for xmas got series 4 and 5 on australian dvd ( which i LOVED )... i watch it occasionally On ITV1 and think this is ok... but the late 80's/all the way to 98 was brilliant, gritty, dirty, and REAL - it has become like eastenders now

It made me NOT want to be a policeman.

Hah, that train at 22. Even back then those trains were ancient and they were still using them well into the 90s

How nice it is to see the Thames ident instead of staring into a bloody lavatory bowl as we're doing at the moment. Mike S.

What an unintersting title sequence.

it WAS 1984 - and it took off bigtime, mind you everyone's entitled to their opinion - i think it's fab!

With all the rubbish the show (and then CONTINUALLY repeat) on ITV2, ITV3 though ITV4000, I wish they'd show some early Bill classics on there.

As far as I am aware those two doing the walking never actually featured in the show. June and Jim were meant to do it but they were not available.
greg678 4 years ago
Nope it's actually Jim Carver and another W.P.C who was never screened as a main character, only a bakcground one. She's a june lookalike though.
lonsburn 5 years ago
No its not - both of them never featured in the show.
