Looks interesting, damn shame about the audio quality. It'd be cool if everyone could back of here and there and then bring it back. I was playing with some druid folks last week and it was a wall of noise in the end!
nice work guys cant beat drums together. the sound has so much more depth. than a solo, i think the drums work together with out the players even knowing?? a good trick when u play together, if you loose the beat is hold your hand on your drum and feel the beat vibrate through the skin.
I can't get enough of the beats. I love the djembe, trying to put my soul into it for the last while. I want to shout out some respect to the girls an boys on the djun djuns too. respect to all, peace.
ocsoundwaves, dumb ass racist! Why would anything like more rythm or more feeling for the music depends on what colour you have? There is nothing like rythm in blood, rythm is something abstract.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
all the really great djembe players have rhythm in their blood. the djembe comes from west africa, where there are obviously a lot of africans. it's part of their culture and heritage, and a white boy that learns in college will never compare on the same level. maybe on the surface it may look lite it, but there is the subtle textures and touches that cannot be taught. i'm a white boy who will gladly admit that brothers more often than not have more "riddem" than us white boys.
I never took real lessons but I been playing for a very long time off and on. And now I'm in Dc with the Drum circle @ Malcolm X park damn near leading it. And THIS reminds me why I do what I do. I would love to meet this teacher too.
what the? You're serious right? I love the fact that you view my comment as negative...we all know that Caucasians are known for their rhythmic prowess...ahhhhmm...you should see me dance...taught by the best!
all im saying is thatrace has nothing to do with anththing, you knowwhat i mean. i could have green skin but still have the same mind and skills i have now no matterwhat. your place in the genetic lottery has no say in what you can do, and how well you can do it, the time and effort you put into something is what does it.
excuse me limbicious? what does being white have to do with anything? bradley simmons is black. doesnt mean a white person couldnt drum just as good. any person can do anything they want to put their mind to learning, reguardless of their skin color.
well you know my dear, it's not just a question of playing notes, if you want to play a certain kind of music well, you need to put your heart and your soul in it, and sometimes your culture, no? : )
Bradley is one the most knowledgable musicians in the US on traditional percussive arts. And we are glad he decided to make Durham his home. A good instuctor and friend. As far as this performance, you just had to be there. The facillity is not the best as far as acoustics, but its more about students performing what they learned and not having youtube in mind when they were performed. Its about the students.
Superb grooves and amazing rhythm techiques. Shame the audio quality sucks - sounds like an in camera mic. I think we're missing a lot of the bass wow, especially when the big guy, stops and starts. In there a CD or iTunes mp3 to buy which is recorded properly? Who is the band even?
It was an in camera mic. Wished I'd done it with aux. mic. The group is The Duke University Djembe Ensemble. They are students and a professional (Bradley Simmons) who teaches them. Not sure if they have recordings. Check on the web.
okay i take that back im sorry i actually am i learned how to play the drums by myslef then i met a friend from seirra leone he thought me then i got a scolership kuz i was supposely so good and yah now im only 13 i got the scolership at 11 so yah im sorry and no they dont suck!

You are a sad individual that you simply try to gain attention by insulting other people. All your claims are wonderfull, but they aren entirely unsubstantiated. All this compounded by your pathetic grammar and spelling is just an aggrivating mess. Go die.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion. The dude in the middle is Bradley Simmons an accomplished percussionist who taught the students in the ensemble how to play djembe drums. Most of them learned not to long before this performance. They aren't pros and I've seen better, but you got to admit they don't "suck". Get someone to video tape you so we can see what you got.
The djembe's are sick to play~ and these guy's got skills~ 8D
