I know this comment will make me look dumb, but I've never seen Martha Nussbaum this young before. My image of her is always as someone at least 50 years old.

Aristotle was an elitist and oligarch who cheapened himself by selling his knowledge as private tutor to Alexander of Macedon. When Alexander died, he died, and the one-world government idealized by Aristotle failed. He paved the way for medieval philosophers, who brought us alchemy and relativity and all the other mumbo jumbo to justify cruelty and oppression. Machiavelli, deMaistre, Nietzsche, Leo Strauss, the Nazis and the neocons are all a product of the school of Aristotle.
@borat707 There are so many things wrong with this rant. Even Plato was oligarchical and elitist, and in some respects worse than Aristotle. His story about Thales shows that he had no interest in money, and he says in his Politics that the ideal state should have no more than 100,000 people in it, so both of your statements about him and Alexander are false. Alchemy was well-established by the Middle Ages, and it brought us neither relativity nor relativism, none of which justify oppression.
lol at the all the hurt egos in the comments of all sections. So many got hurt by being intellectually inferior to a woman. Which a sign of stupidity by itself
Nussbaum was hard to follow, for she is sharply focused. Her exciting words about women at the end were sadly cut off by time restraints. Aristotle certainly should have had the insight to see the "form" that constitutes a wise woman!
I comment from a feminist POV, so pls. be respectful. Lucky we have this introduction for free! peace
Thank you very much, Martha Nussbaum.
