After driving it for over a year, and dropping it a few times during the learning process, I bought a suzuki gs500 and learned how to drive in traffic. Those were my first two bikes.
I hope people listen to this video. This is the voice of reason, and if you are thinking about getting a first bike, listen to your common sense if you have any. Start with a 250!! I started under special circumstances though. I lived on an old WW2 airbase and was in this religious boot camp program for over a year. A guy there had a 1990 kawi 550. I bought it, and rode it all over the gravel and blacktop roads there, but never drove it on real roads. Never had it street legal. It was perfect.
@morgothaod get the cbr250r thats what im getting because you can get abs with and its fuel injected. also it has more low end torque which is great for the city not so great for the highway.
I just bought a 2003 Honda rebel 250 and I'm loving it. Its my first bike and I'm not looking for acceleration or super top speed. I bought it for cruising and having a good time :D
awesoem opinion, always start smart , save money, better to learn on something cheap than new and expensive, that idiot on youtube with the new blue gsxr coming out of the stand and crashing always comes to mind
What's your opinion on a Ninja 650R as a beginner bike? I don't have experience with the clutch, but I'm very comfortable having a semi-heavy bike and I don't feel like it's ever going to fall. I know about looking through turns, throttle control, when to use the back brake and when to use the front brake and emergency braking.

@MxCliche by that comment you seem like you dont know every much about bikes... if you start off on a 600cc you are more likely gonna kill yourself.. start on something small for a few months..if you get bored get something bigger.. but dont be stupid
Lol you speak the truth, I learned on a 50 cc pocket bike and the first time I took it out I flipped it on top of myself. I ended up picking it up laughing and then ridding more. If it had been even a 250 ninja I could have crushed my skull open. People never think about learning to ride before they actually ride one and most people don't get as lucky as I did. So for all the numb nuts who are going to get a big bike to learn on all I can say to you is good luck and I hope you don't die.
how fast does the 250r go? see i want to be able to go on the highway and not have people beeping at me for going 60 or even 70 when on the highway i want to be able to go at least 75 and like if i was getting on the highway you gotta merg onto the highway doing the speed that everyone els is going at so you gotta be able to do that will this bike do that for me? j/w thanks
@TheMattd546 It can do 100-110mph. Even up the steepest hills I have seen on the freeway the bike could still maintain 80mph easily. The 250R really is plenty fast for ANY rider on ANY US road.
SO HOW DO YOU GET STARTED LIKE DO I HAVE TO TAKE A SAFTEY COURSE OR CAN I JUST TAKE THE TEST AND BE DONE WITH IT WHAT THE PROCESS.
DO I NEED TO BUY A MOTORCYCLE FIRST BEFORE I CAN TAKE A SAFETY COURSE (IF NEEDED?)
AND WHAT DO YOU THINK THAT INSURANCE ON A NINJA 250R FOR THE AVERAGE NEW RIDER (LIKE A 2008-11). AND I KNOW THE 250R NINJA IS CARBURATED. CAN I RIDE FOR LIKE 3-4HRS NON STOP OR IS THERE A TIME LIMITE ON IT BECAUSE ITS NOT FUEL INJECTED?
@vegayoan 1. Depends on where you are 2. The MSF course provides bikes and helmets for you 3. Depends on too many things. My insurance was like $140/year for liability. 4. Carbs don't limit range, you can ride it all day.
i started on a 2006 honda cbr 600rr and i did just fine. i still ride the same bike today. i bought it in 08. it all depends on what kind of person you are and how responsible you are. know your limits and dont be an idiot. buying a 600 inline 4 is not a bad first bike. i know plenty of people who have started on a 600 and done just fine.
@MrCrazymat69 Starting on a 600 isn't a good idea. Statistically you are way more likely to crash or drop your bike in the first 6 months. If it's a 250R or even a 500R the bike is much more forgiving since it has less power. It's a lot easier to screw up with more power. Just because you didn't have any problems doesn't mean it was a good idea. People go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and live that doesn't make it safe. I'd rather drop a $1500 bike than a $3000+ bike any day.
Wise words made me actually think bout what i was planning on doing with the bike i planned on getting a 250r but i was caught between that and the 600 so thank you
@goaliegonzalez28 You should still get a 250R to get used to street riding. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it. However, if you get a 500 or even 600 you will probably be fine since you know how to use the clutch already and are used to handling a bike.
i am gonna go to the msf course but i just bought a zx6r and i love it i have no problems with it i learned how to ride it on my own in like 10 min not a whole lot just got use to the clutch and the throttle, and ya ya it has power but its just fine for me
and maturity does kinda matter when ur getting a motorcycle, if ur mature and not gonna go fast on it and u got enought confidence that u can get use to it then go for the 600 i kno its kinda not bein smart but come on let people choose for themselves
the highschool i went to a kid that was 17 got a 600 for his first bike, he told me that people told him to start out with a 250 and that he would die if he got the 600, he didnt care what anybody said so he just got the 600 and said that he loved it and it is was rough but its not that hard to get use too
ok i live in missouri and the ninja 250r's here cost just about the same as a 600 used, im gonna get a 600 i don't kno how to ride a motorcycle but once i buy the 600 im going to practice getting use to it in my neighborhood and then im gonna step it up and ride my backroads, but the price of the of the 250 would b kind of a rip off for me if i can get a 600 for the same price

Getting a 600 for your 1st would be stupid. All the dirtbike I have rode didn't go 0-60 in like 2
Thanks for this vid. I'm on the fence between a 250 vs a 500 and already know the purpose for riding; just to enjoy some back roads, getting to know the bike, and become a better, safer rider. I think the 250 will be an excellent start and won't break the bank. Thanks again. Keep adding vids!
im almost 16 and i ride dirt bikes alot my first dirt bike was a crf250r and i couldnt tuch the ground sence then i have been riding for 3 months and am better than anyone i know my first everything was big my first fourwheeler was a 450 and everyone said its to big and i got board of it so im wonting to know is a 600 to big and im about to sell my 250 for a 450 ive already big bored my old bike
If you have been riding dirt bikes on and off since you were about 9... and I have a Honda TRX450r that I do occasionally ride on the street, then I couldn't see how taking it easy on a CBR600rr could hurt. I want a bike for the experience, the looks, the fun and also the fuel mileage. any motorcycle is Dangerous.....but if you are gonna ride get a bike that you feel comfortable controling!!!! dont worry about looks or power .(if you have no respect for a motorcycle YOU WILL GO DOWN!!).once you have your bike practice riding as slow as you can!! been riding since i was 14, have a harley in the shed........id say buy a honda then a harley!!!! ha ha have fun be safe
Rebel 250s are fine. Not like mopeds at all (I got a Honda Ruckus too). I've ridden 300 mile trips (with an average of 75mph) on the highway and it runs fine. Sure it might be slower than one is used to but for the average person, it's plenty fast.
does the size of the motor make a difference when it comes to scooters ??? I'm thinking of something like a 250 or 500cc scooter...would that be good as a beginer "bike" from which I would jump to a 600cc sportsbike ?
my friend bought 400HP turbo busa as his very first bike and its been year now so far so good!!! i just got gsxr 1000 for my first bike and i hope i dont die :))) im very experienced stick shift driver so it shouldnt be that bad!!!
I dont really agree with you about getting a 250. If you get a chance try to check out my First V-Log. I'm a really good driver and not cocky at all, So I'm going to make the jump to the 600 instead of starting on a 250
@np6odajackson To each his own. I specifically said riding a motorcycle has nothing to do with being a good/bad driver in a car. It's more to do with learning to ride on something inexpensive and not powerful.
@skyline44512 its really not about the bike, its the rider in my opinion. I started out on a gsxr 750 and that is still my first and only bike. i love it!!! never dropped it/crashed it.... and hope it stays that way. :)
@1215Don I'm glad you did fine on a 750. Plenty of people start out on 1000s, but that doesn't make it a good idea. By starting on a bigger bike you're just risking your safety and your wallet much more. Enough said.
fucking true. I know a guy that baught a ducati 1098 as the first bike ever and he didnt even do the drivings licence or something and didnt even sit on any bike. He crashed it like 1/4 mile after the shop and it wasnt registered or insured so he axualy spent 4000 dollars fixing it. And 3 months with the broken leg and 3 broken ribs
@warezvz In a shop I used to frequent I saw a brand new (wrecked) GSXR600. The guy bought it as a first bike and accidentally gave it a little too much throttle in a turn and lost the back end. jjjjeeeeep saw many r6 and alot of aprilia rsv mile 1000 as crashed big bikes
fucking retards i started with 50 and progreset till i arived to a 1000cc bike but dude i still have my 50 scooter in the garage and drive it.Its so much to learn on those little bikes
I will say I bought a GSXR 600 as my first bike. You can die on a 250 just as easy as you can die on a 1000. It's all about the rider. I do agree that most should start on a 250, but you have to be a very attentive rider regardless of how fast your bike is.

And i'm planning on getting a first bike.
But i've read everywhere the things you just said so both the aprilia dorsoduro and the ducati hypermotard are way to much power for a first bike.
Could you perhaps recommend me a good starter that is the same type as the dorsoduro/hypermotard?
Thanks in advance and great video!
