I am very excited for this movie! You said that LOTR is your favorite movie but have you seen the special edition & would that be your favorite over the shorter version?
Okay, this to me, is the real story. The lord of the rings books are just an interesting story about stuff that happened to Bilbo's friends and family. A story that I still felt jackson amputated and pissed on at the last possible moment. But this, is not quite so long and large in scope. I think he'll get this one right. Sooooooo excited!! Plus it's got Martin Freeman! And he's already played the late dentarthurdent (it's a sort of threat you see).
I'm afraid to say that ive KINDA outgrown Lord of The Rings...? Trust me, if this movie had come out 6 or 7 years ago i would've been all over it! Now... It looks good, ill probably end up watching it.
Oh dear. How to describe with a 500 character limit? Here goes: the Lord of the Rings trilogy is man's greatest achievement. Not even an opinion. This is a fact. This movie changed my life, and I can't imagine my life without it, and that's it's so hard for me to understand when people say they've never seen it. Basically, I'm not asking you to see it, I'm really BEGGING you. Not convinced? This is the most powerful death scene of any movie ever. Let me know what you think: /watch?v=oLB7uuRhap4
this isnt my qualm at all, your getting lost somewhere in and around my brief penultimate comment, let me go slower....
If you go back and watch the first 5 mins of the fellowship, you will see Holm/Bilbo and his first encounter with Gollum and the ring. This being a very important story arc in the Hobbit i cant see Jackson leaving this out, only know it want be Ian Holm but Martin Freeman that we see falling in the Dark and stumbling upon the ring.
WHY THE FUK CANT HOLM PLAY BILBO!!!!!!!! i wouldnt feel so strongly about this if it wasnt for us seeing Holm when he first meets Gollum at the beginning of the LOTR's trilogy...FAIL JACSON!!
Jeremy, your reviews rock. Its great to find someone that actually cares about quality, artistry, and story in film, not just "I like it because its what I always like." Keep on!
And the Hobbit trailer made me cry. The LOTR films are just. that. awesome.
I first watched this before watching the lord of the rings and I'm like who the crap is gimli. Then, after you and my friend recommended it, I have found my new favorite thing. Go dwarves!
whenever someone asks me what i think the greatest movie off all time is, i too say the same thing as jeremy....the lord of the rings...and then when people ask which one, i say they are all one, big, long movie.
@conqueringiants Dude really? you havent seen and Lord of the rings? its been ranked as the best trilogy of movie cinema, its very epic, and won many awards, just rent all of them, its worth it.
@conqueringiants It's about a Lord and a Ring, can't believe you don't know what it's about never mind the films of it, it is one of the best fantasty books to have been written.
(I wish I'd seen only the extended versions - this is a great opportunity!)
It's based on the book by Tolkein which started off the whole fantasy genre.
So, if you play things like Skyrim or Dungeons & Dragons, you'll get to be characters like "elf" or "dwarf" or "troll" or "orc" etc. These can all be traced back to Lord of the Rings.
A good question - but I'm glad he did LOTR first, as it's the better story, more epic and much tougher to make - you need a young-ish director.
The Hobbit is more of a children's story. We got read it in storytime at primary school, whereas they could never do that with LOTR (unless it's a primary school for exceptionally gifted children).
I will be so exctied for the hobbit because Lord of the Rings as well. Plus I think some of the actors from Lord of the rings will kick butt in this movie.
Tolkien wouldn't say that lol. Tolkien once said he didn't like movies very much, and how the only way to fully grasp LOTR is through his books, and can't be matched on screen. Not the exact quote but you get it.
@luf4rall I said people have different opinions, I just don't like this movie, it was boring, nerdy, storyline was incredibly shit and if you like it, I respect that. But I'm not a troll just because I hate a movie, a troll is an incredibly annoying asshole who won't respect videos or is just simply a moaning idiot.
@MrLaith05 The extended editions are not just deleted scenes. They enhance the story as a whole, the characters, the plot, and they also explain some things. Like in Two Towers, if you hadn't watched the extended edition, you would never know how Aragorn knows that horse that picked him up after he was drifting in the river.
These guys telling you to watch "Sherlock" are spot on.
Not only does Martin Freeman (Bilbo) star as Dr Watson, but Sherlock is played by Benedict Cumberbatch who will voice Smaug the dragon.
Each series of Sherlock is 3 x 90 minute episodes - the first series was a smash hit that catapulted both their careers towards Hobbit. We're about to watch episode 2 of the 2nd series in the UK tonight on the BBC. The show is written by current Dr Who writer Steven Moffat. So it's all quality.
I love LOTR, books and movies. I can't say they are my top favorite films (as there are too many good ones) but I'll definitely say that they're my favorite fantasy films. This does look good. But I am kind of mixed to the fact that they're changing the tone of the book to make it more like LOTR. It is probably going to work fine, and both will be very good movies. but there was a certain charm to THE HOBBIT's more simplistic, lighthearted, and fairytale-like feel.

yes... i am definitely looking forward to this movie... after i saw the trailer the theme song was stuck in my head, and i ended up watching lord of the rings again, back to back lol :)
Totally agree! The Lord of the Rings is, as a whole, the best film ever made. I must also say that the return of the king also has several imperfections when it comes to the edeting and ending, but it not so bad
@madcreech Hey, they've always been mine. Just saying, there are some people who are saying that because it's cool again, but not everyone is like that.
@TallBlackDwarf I kinda dropped the ball on this one. Lord of the rings, as a whole, isn't that great, it's just okay. When you start to think about how the movie went, and how the book was written. the author left a lot of things up for grabs in those books, most of it has to do with logic, which is very lacking, but if you don't mind reality not being real, then this type of movie is definitely for you, specially when you lack logic yourself. Another Hollywood movie made for money.
Me too, i've been a fan of Tolkein's works since i was 12 and did grew up with the LOTR cartoons but i'm glad Tolkein's works are finally live-action films. You know Ron Perlman could have made a damned good Smaug but oh well. And you don't believe in that 2012 crap do you either right?
This is gonna be legendary. Can't wait for December.

Lord I'm so exited for this movie. It's like... finally returning to Middle-Earth. Everything looks so right. The music, the characters. Everything.

I think this will be good but there is no way "The Hobbit" can topple the pure epic-ness of "The Return Of The King".

All of the sudden everyone's favourite movie is the Lord of the Rings again. Makes me sick.

@madcreech Hey, they've always been mine. Just saying, there are some people who are saying that because it's cool again, but not everyone is like that.

@kiemul136 Your opinion matters as much as a dog turd, you're undesirable by smell and looks, your move, turd.

@Ryuuken24 It's called a prequel. They do it all the time. And Bilbo is not Gollum.

@Ryuuken24 its a prequel and was written before lotr just in case your not trolling
