  • I assure you if you were living in britain your attitude would change, narrator, the self proclaimed royals are a pain in the ass, anti democratic, based on their hereditary rule,£40 million a year off tax payers,in a recession to support their grand life styles, fuck off,and grow up.They are one big pr machine.A total social injustice.

  • 2:57 isnt that mont saint michelle, a french castle

  • CORGIES :D!

  • No offense, but that "awesome UK castle" at 2:56 is a "boring French castle" called Mt. St. Michel and is located in Normandy, France.

  • xD minecraft win

  • Humble opinion: This argument is making the rather large assumption that the lands would have stayed in the hands of the royal family had they not been under the stewardship of Parliament. The fact that it is still their land has its roots in systems of profound inequality that probably would not have survived the test of progress. It's also choosing to overlook the very troubling question of WHY people are so obsessed with royalty, opting instead to examine the monetary benefits. Oh well.

  • I think it's interesting how we all crave what we don't see in our everyday lives. I don't care for old buildings and castles, I'm drawn to bright technicolour 21st century noise and light (not that London is completely bereft of that) yet people living in those places will travel thousands of miles and spend ridiculous amounts of money for the view from a window not 10 miles away from me :/

  • I'm fine with the Queen, but please God save us from the National Anthem.

  • I'm English... I didn't know we were supposed to stand on the right. And behaving silly in public doesn't seem to be merely the prerogative of the tourists... That sad, I'm not leaving my house during the Olympics

  • Going to see Her Majesty starting her diamond jubilee tour at my uni tomorrow :) oh and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton too ;)

  • Victoria the Epic! x)

  • Why do I think of this CGPGrey as some cool history teacher trolling around :D Love your videos!

  • KONY 2012

  • Was the "huge tracks of land" a line from Monty Python, or just coincidence?

  • not heard the profit from them argument before.

But certainly, an elected head of state would be no cheaper at all. more likely more expensive

  • Victoria the Epic hahaha

  • lol fu at ur canadian rant

  • if it was Ireland of the north your could have U.R.E.W.I.N.S what a ere is I am not sure but this the internet you can make up all sorts of things like sources on wiki pages.

  • Fun fact: they did have sunglasses in the civil war. People wore them if they had siphilis. just thought you should know.

  • do u live in the U.K?

  • @tacticalmilf He has for 11 or so years.

  • wich is the name of the background song?

  • fuck the queen.

  • HANG ON ONE SECOND. At 2:57 you speak sir of amazing english castles but use for your example Mont Saint Michel radiating with awesome sunshine sparkles. It is clearly FRENCH! YOU SHOULD HAVE USED ITS ENGLISH TWIN NEAR PENZANCE! I thought you were better than this! Colour me disgusted!

  • @03wrigc He made a silly mistake.

  • @MrDeludedPenguin I know I know, I just expected better, my patriotism got the better of me

  • While fun and informative, you neglect to mention the the reason the Monarchs can cede all that money (land) is because they... well, they have it. Why do they have it? Why is it theirs? Did they earn it? Did their great-grandparents earn it? Oh, well. That WAS rather small change in comparison. Not disagreeing COMPLETELY, just... a little?

  • @BBFNTL People should be thankful anyway, because it was these monarchs who created UK in the first place

  • @BBFNTL I think grey left that bit out because anyone of any intelligence would realise that the lands where conquered lands. Ever heard of the right of Conquest? Its not something Hollywood made up its a true right a true claim which back then held a great deal of sway. The Royal lands as they are today remain the royal lands out of choice rather than being enforced.

  • @BBFNTL If you inherited land from your grandfather, it would be rightfully yours. Also, both you and the Royals have to pay inheritance tax.

  • @BBFNTL It's a good question, and I don't claim to KNOW the answer, but I bet they obtained it legally. I bet that because at the time the got it the Royal family had absolute power, so even if they just seized it, the act was legal. It may not be legal NOW, but new laws don't apply retroactively, so there's not much to be done about it. Taking royal land now would be illegal NOW, in exactly the same way taking someone's house from him is illegal. It's just their land, period.

  • @killernat and we see nothing from the queen except spending a shit ton of money oh her visit

  • what about the canadians we have to pay $1.53 per person to the queen www2.macleans.ca/tag/the-royal-family/

  • @killernat what about eastern europe? we have to pay $19.43 per person to corruptive deals

  • @griizinjkalns ouch sounds painful

  • Finally a guide for all those ignorant republicans and by that I mean Bill O Reilly

  • Alaska can come too

  • "don't tell us what to do mom." LOL!

  • @Horsedogz Mum* ;)

  • DIAMONDS!!

  • HUGE...TRACKS OF LAND!

Even if it wasn't necessarily a reference, I still laughed. :P

  • Informative, fun, clever and interesting ... can you ask for more? ... one of the best channels in all of youtube!

  • thumbs up for the monty python reference

  • My only excuse for hating the Queen was my own ignorance in believing that the Queen cost more than the profit gained. You have changed my opinion regarding the U.K; however, I am a Canadian. If you read this, could you answer a question please: does the Royal Family prove beneficial for Canada?

  • these vids are awesome

  • How did George III get the land? The peasants just gave it to his family perhaps... oh no, his family was from Hanover... The Stuarts, nope they were Scottish.. The Normans took the lands from the English by "right of conquest". Whose lands are they?

  • Why do you show at 2:55 talking a bout the awesomeness of British castle, the FRENCH island of Mont-St-Michel? I love your videos, but be careful what you are showing.

  • Thumbs up on Mont St, Michel - that one is French after all

  • The government removed the power of the queen to dissolve parliament last year. Big change, but very little press about it. Completely de-clawed now!

  • I would so dissolve parliament for the lulz if I was the queen :D

  • I say the queen should remove all colonial parliaments and return us to the days of EMPIRE!

I want my own top hat, monocle and mustache to twirl and have it mean something!

  • 2:21 = Best Part

  • 2:55 The example of an "awsome castle" in Engalnd is actually french Monastry called Mont Saint-Michel

  • anyone else notice 1:33 Stop all your moaning about the royal family?

  • Forget the cost of the Royal Family, I want to know what turned King George's poop purple.

  • I'm going to stop reading things in Morgan Freeman's voice and instead read things in your voice. It's like a fucking.... o_o I don't even know. your voice is just addicting, I'll just say that.

  • Every republican who uses the old line "the queen is a leach" should be made to watch this 100 times or be thrown in the tower of london then made to pull the Queens carriage at the jubilee celebrations :D

  • Long live the diamond Queen God Save the Queen.

  • you keep doing united kingdom stuff but you sound american :/

  • Hva faen! :D

  • hva faen? norway shall kicketh the queens asseth if she tries!

  • I had to replay some of the video because i was sorta lost it at the whole King George pooped purple thing...

  • Minecraft!!!

  • this American with a liking for France feels more knowledgeable about your country of England.

  • (watches last episode) "(sighs) Okay Okay (Half way thru) TOO MUCH IT'S TOO MUCH!!! (explodes)"

  • uh, the second castle you showed is Mont St. Michel... in FRANCE. Not Britain

  • @poserowned72 its in cornwall, I've been there

  • @HHm0vies Then you don't remember well. The picture in the video IS Mont Saint Michel, Normandy FRANCE. There is a St-Michael's-Mount in Cornwall, wich is roughly similar. But like a smaller, not as grandiose version.

  • @poserowned72 That ws the point of the picture, actually; a comparrison between the old, broken, unused castles of France, and the functional dwelling places that British castles still are.

  • I love your uses of Minecraft in some of your videos. X3

  • wait 7000 million ಠ_ಠ isn't that just 7 billion?

  • Loved the "fairy dust on banal objects" line. True!

  • "Don't tell us what to do, Mum!" Ha ha ha! Every time I pull out change from my pockets and see the Queen's face, I'm going to think that. Thank you. ^_^

  • Major error: the only people who benefit from tourists are those who own shops and hotels. The average UK taxpayer does not benefit from the tourist pound and only gets annoyed by people walking slowly.

  • @colondee on every single penny earned tax is payed, that includes shops and hotels making money rofl.

  • Loved the video but Southerners watching will FREAK OUT with the "Yank" referral (hee hee). You should have known better if you're American:-) We can excuse the Brits when they say it, they use it in historical context, but for an American to use it, it is pretty bad. Since I'm from NJ - I don't care. The Royal Family is, by far, definitely the biggest pull for American tourists, the Brits have to realize that - they're a smart bunch, maybe not the full 7Billion but probably 90% of that.

  • @jsnb2001 Dude, I'm from the south and it doesn't offend me. In fact, as a history person, we really don't freak out all that much, unless planning you're planning to start another civil war. Don't you know, the south didn't lose: We're just planning our next attack.

  • @SakuraoftheClow Excellent! I love the South - heading down in a few weeks for good weather and some R&R so no plans for another Civil War - the issue seems a bit moot now anyway (thank goodness):-) and I'm a dudette:-) I hope your next attack includes forcing us to eat some grits and biscuits with gravy. I would totally surrender.

  • @jsnb2001 The next attack will be using sweet tea and porches to make congress calm down and actually think things through.

  • @S0ryiu Hah! You lost me at Sweet Tea -- I think you need to be born with Reb blood to truly appreciate that concoction;-) what do you think our fine Brit friends would think about what the Southerners have done to their precious tea, somehow I don't think they're putting Sweet Tea on the "tea" menu at Claridges in Mayfair -- LMAO:-) Give me some Jack and I'll sit on the porch swing and discuss our Congress though.

  • I live in Norway and i found the ending to be amazing.

  • The Queen makes sense she brings in the big bucks and i like to have a non political head of state seems most of the politicians are morons i mean who would of wanted Brown or Blair to be waveing down from buckingham palace not me let's moan about something like the aid we give to india or argentina not one of our bits of national herritage the Queen is no bother she scoots about in her golden coach and waves smiles and likes a flutter on the races and a gin and tonic God Save the Queen i say.

  • I love the Queen and the royal family, its heritage and national identity. Plus did you know the Queen controls the military.

The government has to ask her approval to go to war.

  • @Abagnasco64 then why in the fuck is their a British flag hanging over it ? xD

  • @Blackopsundead The one you're talking about is the Tower of London. That is in London and quite known. S/He's talking about the castle before that. The castle in 2:55 .

  • @Blackopsundead I think he meant 2:56- that's Mont Saint Michel - in Normandy, France

  • I would like to apologize for shouting "fuck the queen" during the royal wedding. I was drunk, very drunk, as I had the day off, and began drinking at 9am in celebration. By 3pm I was out of money and still wanting to drink and in a bitter mood. Sorry queen. Next time there is a royal wedding, please provide drinking money.

  • weather or not that is true, the government isnt a business. i shouldnt give a shit though, im a merican.

  • HOLY MOTHER OF..... MONEY!!!!!!!

  • Okay, so on another video I said we could be friends. That has now been redacted. You called Dagorhir "LARPING"!!!!! That is just insulting and untrue!

  • So the USA sucks.

  • Let's look at how the royalties got all this land. So, basically the royalties have England in their grip "Pay us a salary forever, or we take the land back!"

  • ...i take being called Yanks as an insult but good informative video

  • @itachifan275 lol man Americans have such thin skins. its not even an insult you poo poo face

  • @MrJarth not really it's just that Yanks sounds like an insult i'm not saying it is hence why i said i take being called yanks as an insult although i get why you may not have noticed that seeing it was kind of like reading between the lines

  • UK money make a shield that's awesome

  • @cambria70 depends which money. we have different designs :D

  • This video is a bit misleading. You can't really assign the full 7 billion in tourism revenues to the royal family's influence, but the presentation implies that.

  • hahahaha dissolve parliament for the lolz... classic

  • Please don't call me a Yank.

  • lol its not their land. Most of that was stolen. This video is a load of rubbish

  • @blehblehbleh90 Yeah, I was paraphrasing a little. Unpaid taxes along with security costs and other allowances etc amounts to around 200 million. The royals are required to pay taxes, but certainly not all. The queen didnt pay 20 million pounds due in inheritance tax in 2002.

  • Hva FAEN!?

    XD

Oh, I suppose it's payback for the Viking Age. :P

  • @gmr5953uk That was my point..........Did you actually read what I said?

  • The tijuana thing was very offensive, dude. :c

  • As much as I would like to wholly support this video, the figures used at the beginning are very selective. Although the royal allowance may only be around 40 million pounds, the actual cost is nearer to 200 million, through tax exemptions. And the section at the end about people wanting to go to the UK because its not a republic is preposterous considering Italy ,France and China all have much higher numbers of incoming tourists....

  • @Somtam1231 People go to Italy and France because they're nice countries with countryside and beaches. Good luck getting people to come to England to enjoy the miserable weather, bland food, and dull countryside.

  • @gmr5953uk Bland food? Dull countryside? You're correct about the weather (apart from the awesome summers), but your other two points are highly specious. You either don't know where to eat and what to see, or you're making stuff up.

  • @Somtam1231 But the Royals are required to pay taxes. Very little indeed is even discounted, let alone exempt.

  • I'm an American, I don't have to deal with this crap

  • God Save The Queen!

  • By the way, the UK castle you show as "awesome..." is actually French. That's Mont Saint-Michel, and its on an island off the coast of Normandy.

  • @CGPGrey Good lord! A fellow redditor! /r/fruitunion!

  • Hey cpggrey, when does the narwhal bacon?

  • @CptQuestionMark Midnight.

  • Minecraft!! 3:23.

  • you mentioned norway! :D you fucking rock dude! :D

  • hva faen?! - that earned you a favorite my good sir

  • subscribed

  • Tijuana professional services... never heard that word for prostitute before

  • HUGE...tracts of LAND!

  • This was a kinda biased vid. You really think France doesn't get tourists?

    .

I dont believe that the bloodline doesnt have influence in UK anymore, if your fucking shield is on everything and if your face is on the bills then you own shit. then you've got influence.

    .

she own the ground you walk on, these people are exempt from the due process of law.THEY OWN YOU, and ARE ABOVE YOU, they dont have to pay taxes, they ARE the kingdom.

    .

despite all that, they are also an asset.

  • @fullfist disregard the third part of my comment.

    .

while the aristocracy may be a pain in the ass when it comes to abusing power at least they carry "the seed of mankinds progress", the genes must be preserved.

    .

if they let just any bum be the aristocracy, your people would have pretty shitty representation on the face of the planet

  • By this same logic, all governments should adopt meaningless monarchies for the tourist money. I think that's stupid. The claim that the monarchy "owns" all that land is incredibly dubious, considering the illegal and immoral methods that they have used to obtain and defend that power over the centuries, and the fact that monarchs have been curiously exempt from many of the laws which would otherwise govern the taxation and inheritance of that land. Death to the monarchy, death to the queen.

  • Yay, død over Norge! ^_^

    "Hva faen?"

  • I would add that crown perogative powers are excersiced by the PM.

So when Blair promises a foreign head of state to send British troops to Iraq and Afghanistan without the consent of parliament he can avoid being tried for treason.

  • Hva faen!? :D

  • What a load of codswallop.

  • I live in Canada, and I am so bothered by the fact that the queen is our head of state. She doesn't even do anything. She literally hires someone to live here and do HER job. Now the governor general is awesome, but still. I think we should be independent.

  • @wellheyitsemily I believe that Canada itself opted to remain part of the commonwealth and have the queen as it's head of state.

  • @wellheyitsemily That's a stupid reason to leave the Commonwealth, your Prime Minister is supposed to do most of the work, the Queen does the other things that a President would do (e.g. Meet and greet, raise public relations etc), and she does have a considerable amount of power throughout the Commonwealth still.

Is your only reason for wanting independence that she doesn't live in Canada? I'm not sure if you know how difficult it would be to travel so far at the age of 85.

  • @beechey145 I get what you're saying, and the queen is supposed to do that. But she doesn't. As much as I dislike Stephen Harper, he does meets and greets, he goes to different countries and discusses public relations and everything he's supposed to do.

I don't care where she lives, I have nothing against her personally. She even visited my province last year.

We just don't need her, we should be independent. It's time for us to be our own country, and get out of the Commonwealth.

  • @wellheyitsemily Well the mjority seem to disagree with you, or something would have been done already.

Our Prime Minister (David Cameron) also does meet and greets and such. And staying in the Commonwealth almost ensures your nation's success as it's rare for a large Commonwealth nation to fall, we all back eachother up, and if you left, you might get snagged up by America or other nations that want stronger relations with 'large' countries.

  • @beechey145 I'm not saying it should happen, but I'd just like to know what would happen. You are correct in the fact it's better to be part of a union with the Commonwealth than America.

It's interesting getting some insight by someone different, and honestly, I now agree with you. It would probably be the best to stay. My dad brought me up to believe we shouldn't be part of it. Then again, he's one of the most ignorant people I know.

Thank you, I learned something new today!

  • 7000 million = 7 billion?

  • @HopeForAwesome a British billion is a million million. We tend to use the US billion these days though which is as you point out 1000 million.

  • The first argument about the royals owning the land is somewhat flawed, because its not really THEIR land in any sense that they conquered and ruled it centuaries ago. If we did have a revolution and became a republic then we could own all the land anyway - however the point about the Tourism income is perfectly valid; and that is why I am a royalist.

Plus its nice not to have to be patriotic to a flag, and instead have a nice old lady to be patriotic about. I prefer it that way.

  • thumbs up if you are Norwegian and laughed at 4:02

  • ooooooh so THATS why the color purple is known as a "royal" color

  • lol minecraft :3

  • i like the song. what is it?

  • at 2:57 that isn't in England. that is in France..........

  • @ABagnasco64

    That's not a french flag I see.

  • @billybobjoe198

Yes, because it's a monastary. Why would it fly a flag?

  • @ABagnasco64 It's in England.... That's the tower of London, it's near central London.

  • @rabblewo

Maybe the british wished it was in England. But Mont Saint-Michel is still in France.

  • @superdau It clearly has the Union Jack on it, and if you google Tower of London the pictures all look almost identical. In fact, I found the exact picture he used. Furthermore, the Mont Saint-Michel does not look like the picture he used at all.

  • @rabblewo

Don't know what video you've been watching, but at 2:57 I see Mont Saint-Michel with a cheese rising sun behind it...

  • @superdau At 2:57 I see the London Tower, at 2:56 I see the Mont Saint-Michel

  • @ABagnasco64 Why would A French castle be flying the Jack lol... .-.

  • @PaganMars

    Because it doesn't?

  • @ABagnasco64 You mean the tower of LONDON

  • @MortonJack94

You're from the UK and think THAT's the tower of London?

  • @ABagnasco64 But it is our castle.

  • @ABagnasco64 so....why does it have a british flag?

  • Huge tracts of land = L O L

  • 0:47 He owned huge boobs? Wait...we're talking about Monty Python right?

  • haha! For the lulz :)

  • wait...7,000 million? how bout 7 billion? :)

  • Hva faen indeed.

  • Is it wrong that I want to see pictures of purple poop?

  • Is it sad that I actually made the shie
