I have this part for an upcoming show, the one thing thats different, is that i'm a tenor 1! but still it looks like a great part, i haven't even got the script yet so i dont know the part yet but it looks pretty good :D
I've just been given the part of rev shaw for my schools production in april next year. I was just wondering what your voice type is, I'm a bass, so I might being singing things lower. Good job by the way!

@thewhiteman8oo Congrats on getting the part, dude! I'm a baritone, which is the range level just above bass. I can reach the tenor range also (was in the tenor section of my church choir), but baritone seems to be where I feel most comfortable. Break a leg, Reverend!
My director actually hated that song. We didn't run it in the show.
I enjoyed the part very much. I was even nominated (not awarded) two awards (best supporting actor, best male soloist) in our counties local highschool musical competitions. All the highschool's in the area have judges come and view their shows. Its pretty exciting considering I was selected to be nominated as one of four guys out of a dozen or so others.
Overall though I enjoyed the part regardless of the song being cut
When the show came over to London, the script was revised and a few small changes were made. I'm doing footloose at school and I am playing Rev. Shaw, instead of I confess, there is a reprise of Heaven Help Me, and a big scene between Shaw and Ren, where he realises what he's been doing etc. much like I confess. it is very good :) x

@faufyman54 Congratulations on getting the part! You're a tenor? You should be able to really belt those lyrics then. :-) Have a great time!

My highschool is doing this shaw, and I was casted as Shaw.
I like the part alot, but honestly the show is alot different without the whole I confess number... I prefer it that way too
By the way though, did you change the final speech or was it writen that way?
Still I liked it, very expressive :D

Congrats on landing the part! Hope you enjoy playing Shaw as much as I did.
This was definitely one of my favorite roles that I've ever played on stage.
I am curious though as to what made your school decide to exclude "I Confess"? I always saw that as Rev. Shaw's character defining moment.
