When they say 6-8 he either is talking about the backs of the wave or the swell must have been like 6-8 ft at 20 seconds in deepwater (30+ ft), when wave periods are further apart, their energy stretches further down than normal, and wave periods of about 20 seconds become twice the size on shallow water than what they were in deep water. I agree, you should call a waves size by how big it is in shallow water, but this may just have been the forecast.
In NZ we measure from the back of the wave 4 ft wave 8 ft face ......6th wave double over head so 8ft wave here is about triple over head , im just saying thats all.

I haven't seen waves at Burleigh get close to this for a while, around 2 months ago I went down at 5am with some mates and caught some 7ft's. They were murky as shit and tubing like crazy. barely anyone was out. Just alot of camera's.
