The Norse from Greenland migrated south into Hudson Bay during the 1300s for warmer climate as Greenland temperatures continued to drop. The Churchill river system was the way to Lake Winnipeg and Red River into the mid-west.French explorer Laverandry 1600s was told of Red Bearded men,by the natives on Lake Winnipeg, that lived in stone houses on its shores in the north. One look at the globe from the top and the adventurous nature of the Norse and it becomes very clear. The Norse were here often.
I'm not a scientist, obviously, but why is it so hard for people to accept the fact that Norsemen could have ventured into the midwest? They feed us that Bering Straight crap about the native Americans, but refuse to give credit to Europeans other than Columbus...WHO NEVER EVEN CAME TO NORTH AMERICA.
Did they found any lasting settlements? Did their explorations make the rest of Europe aware of America? Does it matter if people were already living there for thousands of years?
Historical accuracy is never in possession of the masses.
To the contrary, they are the ones who feed on whatever political agenda is presented as history, always.
Let's not forget, experts insisted the the world was flat, that earth was the center of the universe, that asbestos was safe, mercury amalgam is safe inside your mouth, etc etc...
I have also heard that the indians that the europeans met were peoples that invaded the original inhabitants of the americas from asia many hundreds of years before european colonization.
Legends are nice and danddy. But in reality Spain discovered American and introduced to Europe. Spain colonized and led the way to America. No legend, just simple historical facts. No All south and central and parts of North Americans speak spanish. Spain is the greatest kingdom that ever was. Spain were the first Europeans to place the eyes on the great AZTEC and MAYAN empires. You can tell this video is made by english anglo saxons. All your wishful thinking cannot change history.
I think it's funny you think a continent with 10,000,000 inhabitants could be 'discovered' by any European race. Natives were already in America. Plus there is evidence that vikings were here long before Columbus. Plus there is some information that points to Asians being here long before the people that we consider native Americans. The Clovis people are believed to be the first inhabitants or North AND South America, dating all the way to 13,000 lasting for about 500 years. History is History.
Dude, I'm part Spainish too and proud of my heritage, and while Spain may have introduced North America to the rest of Europe.. Leif Ericson was the first european in America.
It's a well documented fact that the vikings made it to America some 500 years before Columbus. Leif Eriksson went there around 1002 AD.
L'Anse aux Meadows on Newfoundland was a viking settlement that has been excavated. Actually it has been proposed that Columbus went to Iceland as a young man and there heard about Vinland, the name that the ancient vikings had given the land they had discovered.
That some people from Iceland or Norway came back during the middle age is not impossible.
I translated the text some years ago myself, and found it to be really interesting. The question whether it's real or not will probably never be answered conclusively. Personally I think it's fake. The strange runes used would surely have popped up somewhere else. I look forward to watching the documentary - I want to hear what the experts have to say about this mystery.

I learned about this stone from a 1962 edition of "World Book" encyclopedia (entry for Kensington rune stone).
Never underestimate the value of an old set of encyclopedias!
The stone is obviously genuine. Why do you suppose it has aroused such a controversy?

Being from MN, I always knew this to be true. There were alphabetics found on the runestone that were unknown at the time of the discovery.
