That's 1988 dollars, people. According to the inflation calculator at the Bureau of Labor Statistics website, that's the equivalent of $47.71 in current dollars. I also distinctly remember new DVDs running upwards of $40 in 1998 when they were still new tech (Predator and Starship Troopers were the first DVDs I bought), which is equal to about $56 today. By comparison, I can walk into Best Buy or Wal-mart today and buy a new movie on Blu-ray for $25 or less.
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, my folks are slow with technology because they are tight, ha, and I am a little slow with it when I am having trouble getting the funds, ha. Which is why none of us have an HD or even flat screen TV yet, though it is first on my list when I find a job in Austin (if I ever do).
This was the very first movie I ever got on VHS back in 1988. I was a 12 year old and I watched the damn flick (no exaggeration) over 40 times in a 3 year period.
This commercial gave me chills down my spine and nearly drew tears out of my eyes. My God the memories this commercial brought back to me!!!!!!!
Me too, it was a great Halloween gift i got from my mom and dad. Did you get it as a Halloween or Christmas gift? it was the same year that horrible Mac and Me came out and i saw that in theaters by mistake no thanks to my mom, i can't believe i saw that 95 minute Mcdonalds Commercial. Do you remember the E.T. Mcdonalds posters they had in the happy meals? i heard the E.T. game was a clunker for the Atari
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, i got it in October as well that year. I do remember the McDonalds happy meal posters as well as the awful Atari game, which my brother and i used to play. The Raiders of the Lost Ark Atari game was pretty bad too. lol

That might have been the first video our family ever owned when we got our first VCR. I think we got them both one Christmas, a VCR and E.T.
