@mickeycrazy1 Well, if i was up against my cousin and there was millions at stake, i would care very much whether i got the millions or my cousin...from my cousin it would go to his relatives and slip futher away from me or my immediate family, we should soon never see a penny of it... not that i'm particularly interested in millions, but as an example.. greed and want of money make people silly...
@Think533 Well i dont think it would work in period dramas, if a older woman like a younger man, it not wrong but in those times, it was rarely done. Also it adds drama to the story, because having two young men after a young girl isn't that interesting, but having a older one, make a different between the men.....I'm going on abit, sorry.
the old guy wants her for himself-I think it was him who called in the debt to make Mr Woodcourt go away (?) Gupy reminds me of another Dickens character-the creepy under lawyer Uriah Heep
"Is this consecrated ground?" Sounds like something a vampire would say, just saying.

i hate those quick shots...i think they take away from the movie...the sense of another time is misplaced with the modern shots and sounds.

I think if anyone called in the debt it would have been Guppy..not Mr. Jaundyce. Guppy works in the law and is creepy.

The names of the characters are so horrible that it makes it hard to take them or the story very serouisly.
Did Mr. Dickens do that as a joke, try and make light of a rather dark novel?

@EJWorks All the characters in all Dickens novels have, shall we say, unusual and meaningful names.

@EJWorks The names of Dickens' characters have always been, shall we say..unique

@renai0304 True, Jarndyce loves Esther, but he would never call in Woodcourt's debts. There's not a mean-spirited bone in his body.
