Tornadoes can occur in the mountains. The tornado outbreak on Friday. May 31st 1985 destroyed parts of ohio, Pennsylvania and Canada. One of the stronget tornadoes went through the Allegheny National forest, a mountainous region destroying all in it's path.
I live in the area where that outbreak occurred. Everyone talks about the F4 in Albion, PA. I'm surprised there isn't more mention of the F5 in Mercer county.
yeah i've lived in pittsburgh my whole life and we've only had one tornado here. it was like in 98 or something. It's like the only tornado thats touched the ground here in like 50 years. Every now and then we get microbursts.
omg i live in britain like ages away frm wen there was 1 in birmingham butt i get so scared tht weere guna av 1 cos of global warmin i get soo freeked owt ....
Tornadoes will happen whether or not there is global warming. They actually have been more numerous after the coldest winters and cooler time periods. This past winter(2009) wasn't as cold in Oklahoma this year, and our tornado season was light this year. All the predictions made by science is based on theory and computer models, and as we have seen, computer models blow a weather forecast just inside a week, let alone, even a 2 day forecast. So if you get one, it's not because of global warmin
In 1945,a young girl named katu lata kulu came over to America in a grey boat from Africa. A mysterious man killed her by cutting the word "LATUALATUKA" into her back. now that you have read this measge she will come to your house on a full moon and steal your soul unless you follow these directions:

Tornadoes are just creepy in general! I live in northern Utah, so a tornado here is rare. But we did have one the touched down near the downtown area of SLC in ... 1998? An F2, I believe. It was creepy! All of downtown was lifeless! The animals were outta there! O_O
Of course, we don't have a warning system. So, we really didn't have a warning for it. Unless you were watching TV or listening to the radio at the time. o.O
It's funny, I believe I'm hearing birds chirping in the background like tweet tweet nothing is gonna happen... then BOOM! lol. Nice footage. (yes I'm a retard I dont care lol)
Seriously man if i saw that damn thing i would be running to the nearest lake lol and stay underwater or magically open a seawer or if i new that we were having a tornado warning because that means it was spotted and watch means they think there was one spotted lol i dunno how it goes but i would be outside alll that time to see if i see a tornado anywhere then if i did im outta there i'd bee runnin on water man
I live north of where this happened and I think one person died, not sure. Wisconsin (where this twister was) sees a few tornados each year. Most of the time they don't do much damage. However, they have also taken out a few Wisconsin towns with one pass. A twister doesnt always form on flat lands either.
No FA is not where most tornadoes occur. Hurricanes occur here most often but tornadoes occur the most in around Oklahoma and Texas. Yearly Oklahoma can see an average of over 70 to 80 tornadoes during one standard storm season.
that sucks you can hear the people screaming and even wind chimes. Thats why I always question is it really a good idea to build homes (wooden ones at that) in flat grounds in Tornado ridden areas. Its like asking for trouble sometimes. Move to a big city lol. Hope no one was hurt, cuz that's terrifying.
Tornados strike big cities too. There is nothing about a big city that prevents or diverts a tornado.
A flat midwestern area is no more dangerous than any other area. Coastal areas have hurricanes and tsunamis. The southwest has wildfires. The northwest has volcanic potential. The west coast has earthquakes. Imagine not building in ANY of these areas because of fear of natural disaster.
no..my point was in relation to tornadoes only. not natural disasters. i have lived in chicago, new york and, detroit, and miami. and none have experience tornadoes that were significant enough to cause tornadoes because they're skyscrapers were able to prevent and divert tornado formation. flat grounds support that, and so i wonder if building in flat midwestern areas is smart.
Skyscrapers don't "prevent and divert" tornado formation in any way. The only reason the downtown part of a large city has not been torn apart by an F5 tornado yet is because of statistics.
They're less common up in the mountains than they are out in the plains, of course, but your best bet if you want to find out the frequency of tornadoes in a certain area is to look up the yearly tornado distribution on the net...
When was this?? I live at the foot of the appalachin mountains and all we have gotten is some really bad microburst! Which can be just as crappy as a tornado though I don't think they are as destructive in such a wide spread way.
I cannot believe the birds are chirping and a tornado is not that far away!
When we had a tornado hit , everything fell silent, all the crickets, the birds, the sirens had gone off 20 kminutres ago, and you could feel the ground vibrating..... scary SHIT!
WTF that looks like the same exact place tornado and everything i had in my dream couple nights ago ok now im really scared livin in kansas sucks to many tornados
Wow from this angle it reminds me of the picture that was taken showing the Red River outbreak.
