Were you there that night? I've been a Mets fan since '68 and next to Kenny Rogers walking in the winning run, that was the most disappointing way to go down. Had he swung, it wouldn't have generated as much buzz. It was a good curve.

I am a yankees fan but I really liked the mets and this was a magical season for them. It really sucked watching Beltran look at third strike from Wainright. When Chavez made that amazing catch I reallly thought they would win but damn Heliman blew it!
I was surprised (but happy) that the mid- to late-2000s Met core of Beltran, Wright, DelGado, Reyes and Glavin never won a championship. They still have Beltran, Wright and Reyes, and still can't seem to put it together. Not that I'm complaining, but I just don't get it.
As a Cardinal fan, the LAST person we wanted to come up was Carlos Beltran! He definitely was a Cardinal killer. He KILLED us while he was with the Astros. In all the post season games he murdered us.
Now he comes up with 2 outs, bases loaded in game 7 of a division series...I was about to throw up! But you could see something dirrerent in Carlos' eyes..like a glaze.

The Mets won a great world series in 1986, but should have been back in the world series and won it again in 1988. This loss to me was worse than Beltran choking with the bases loaded in 2006.

Back in 86 when the Mets beat Houston in that sick 16 inning pennant winner, Kevin Bass got grief for swinging at the curveball down and away but if doesn't swing and it's called strike three, then he REALLY gets grief, the way Beltran should have and DID after the game.

Andy Pettitte started his career as a Yankee. Made his debut in 1995 with the Yankees.
And sure, they bought A-Rod, Tex, CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett, but they also have Brett Gardner, Melky Cabrera, Ramiro Pena, Robinson Cano, Francisco Cervelli, David Robertson, Phil Coke, Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes and Alfredo Aceves all drafted, developed and brought up from the Yankees farm system that were on the 2009 team to go along with Rivera, DJ, Jo-Po and Pettitte.

@joesakic91 Tickets sells in NY in a lot more than in KC or Minnesota, go to a ball game in KC or Colorado sometime. The media is also bigger in NY then in other small markets like San Diego. The yankees just by being in NY has a huge advantage.

When the Yankees come to your town, they help you fill up those seats in KC, Colorado, etc.
The problem is that the owners of small market teams are not using that money to put it back into their own team.
If you still have a problem with that, don't go to any games involve the Yankees because they're helping those smaller clubs fill those empty seats.

@joesakic91 Yeah, but when you have money to keep those guys, and scout them, and sign them after you draft them it makes it easy. Look at the marlins, win a world series and then fire sell, why do you think they got rid of Beckett, Lowell, Burnett, etc. They couldn't afford. I would love to see the yankees win if they weren't allow to spend millions on not only signing players but also keeping the ones they have and had to actually become creative in winning.

As i said before, if small market teams like the Marlins would put the money they receive from the large market teams into their team rather than the owners pocket,they could put better players on the field and keep their best players.

The Yankees won the most WS titles since MLB implement the Draft in 1965 with 7 including one title 2009 in the Bud Selig Luxury Tax/Revenue Sharing era that started in 2002.
So, the Yankees know how to adjust to MLB rules and still play by them and win titles.

@joesakic91 Actually the Yankees didn't win any titles between 1965 when the draft was started and the beginning of free agency in 1973. They didn't win until they bought Catfish hunter and Reggie Jackson, two Hall of Famers. They didn't win again until they started buying all of the best players in 1996, Tino Martinez, Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, etc. They only win cause they outspend everyone else.
