I'm doing this comment for some time after Matt's started being the Doctor. And I can see most of these comments are either from last year or two years ago. I must say, at first I did not like Matt Smith, partly because David Tennant was the first Doctor I watched, so he kind of kindled into my Doctor and the one I was accustomed with. People seem to forget that there were other Doctors before David Tennant, and that there will be others after. Matt Smith is MY Doctor, but I know that one day he will be replaced, and hopefully I will enjoy the next one just as well.
Matt is so fit haha. When they first cast him I didn't really think he would be able to live up to David Tennant's standard, but I think he is possibly the best Doctor there has been so far!
When David Tennant first came, I thought he'd be brilliant but after time I must say I did start to get a bit bored after Martha left.
Now I just love Doctor Who again, once more I look forward to every episode! Oh and the new layout is absolutely great, too. :D

Eccleston said in an interview he was old enough to watch Patrick Troughton. Tennant has said that Davison was his Doctor. Smith is only 26. The old series ended in 1989. Do the math. He isn't old enough to have grown up with any of the old series. He is the first Doctor to have his entire frame of reference be the new series.
All of you naysayers can just be quiet, watch a couple of the new shows in 2010 and give Matt a chance. No one is ever going to be a better Dr. Who than Tom Baker who magically got better every one of his 7 years but I've found every one wonderful in their own way.

I agree, the doctor should be really quirky. I think most people feel Peter Davison was not the most successful Doctor. He's a very good actor and I enjoyed him a lot as Albert Campion but he wasn't odd enough for the character of the Doctor. Tom Baker played the Doctor with lots of peculiarities and was probably the most successful Doctor . I guess the fact there's such a lively discussion indicates that whether a person likes Matt Smith or not there's a tremendous amount of interest.
i'm of the opinion that the Doctor SHOULD be odd-looking and off-putting. basing on looks and mannerisms, i think he'll make a FAR better doctor than tennant- such a horrid doctor.
of course, nobody will ever come close to baker. baker IS the doctor.
because no one liked colin baker , the writers played with that idea and poor doctor number 6 ended up saying "IM THE DOCTOR , WHETHER YOU LIKE IT - - OR NOT"

I can totally see him as the Doctor, he has that crazy air about him. He looks like a kid, and I can totally see him all childishly gleeful over planets and aliens, but there's definitely something dangerous and edgy and thrilling and alluring about him.
The only Doctorish quality I can't see yet is age and experience and the weight of the world behing his eyes. I'm hoping he can bring some of that to the character too.
I think Matt is gonna be a great Doctor. True he has very active running shoes to fill, but I got faith. My only disappointment is that he is still not ginger (aka redhead).

Yeah I thought this two, and there's been loads of continuation errors in the past I believe, a lot of the time though worked around eventually. I'm sure Song was introduced to all his past faces, through photos or something.

The newspapers seem to be going so mad on Matt now that they've already forgotten that David is still the Doctor untill 2010, they Did the same with Christopher Ecclestone no one seems to give a shit about him anymore, I hope they don't do that to David!

I hate It, I don't like him and I think the BBC Is making a big mistake with letting David go and casting another Doctor so soon. They should have signed David to a movie deal and he would have been our TimeLord for at least a 5th season! The BBC and Doctor Who powers that be are cheep and should have given David anything to keep him on the pay role! I got a bad feeling about this!
Interesting. Not what I was expecting at all. I'm not going to pass judgment until I've seen him in the role. I was sad when Chris left, but then David came on and he really became my doctor. david tennant was the best doctor ever but this guy looks great for the role. according to the bbc hes got a great new interesting take on the doctor so he wont be a clone of any prevous ones. hes a bit young, but if he was the best for the role, then who cares. I cant wait to see him as the doctor - bring on 2010!

Have any of you actually seen this guy act? If not than you have no right to say he will or will not be good for the part. Even David Tennant is excited about having Matt as the 11th doctor. Give the guy a chance, he was good enough to impress them on the first day and make both David and Davis both jealous of having him on. That has to say at least something about him?

I hope that finger wagging becomes the Doctor's new thing.
I can totally see him as the Doctor, he has that crazy air about him. He looks like a kid, and I can totally see him all childishly gleeful over planets and aliens, but there's definitely something dangerous and edgy and thrilling and alluring about him.
The only Doctorish quality I can't see yet is age and experience and the weight of the world behing his eyes. I'm hoping he can bring some of that to the character too.

I think Matt is gonna be a great Doctor. True he has very active running shoes to fill, but I got faith. My only disappointment is that he is still not ginger (aka redhead).

I'm pretty sad about this considering all the people that fans have mentioned they liked for the role. I think they should have taken a bit more of a risk. I'd be surprised if I can watch the show with this guy, and I've been loyal since '63.

he seems relli good for the part! at first when i found out that david tennant was leaving i thought that no one could replace him. but now seeing whose going to be the next doctor im quite excited to see what he can bring to the show. i am going to miss david tennant (his accent, glasses, energy and his smile) immensely though :'(
but hopefully matt will make the doctor his own and have fun with it! :)

I hate It, I don't like him and I think the BBC Is making a big mistake with letting David go and casting another Doctor so soon. They should have signed David to a movie deal and he would have been our TimeLord for at least a 5th season! The BBC and Doctor Who powers that be are cheep and should have given David anything to keep him on the pay role! I got a bad feeling about this!

Interesting. Not what I was expecting at all. I'm not going to pass judgment until I've seen him in the role. I was sad when Chris left, but then David came on and he really became my doctor. Maybe the noob can do the same. Doctors regenerate. Such is the nature of the show. It's what's kept it going for 20 years!

No, it's what's kept it going for the last 45 years. Doctor Who was first transmitted in 1963, and the first regeneration took place in 1965.

I don't know how Matt will be as the new Doctor. I can't,because I havent actually seen him play him yet,as has nobody else for that matter,but people seem to think it's OK just to say 'he's gonna be shit' well no one can say that,really, as no one can say 'he's gonna be great' if we havent seen him play the Doctor yet,then we can't just judge him,because that's not really fair. david tennant was the best doctor ever but this guy looks great for the role. according to the bbc hes got a great new interesting take on the doctor so he wont be a clone of any prevous ones. hes a bit young, but if he was the best for the role, then who cares. I cant wait to see him as the doctor - bring on 2010!
