hi brownells love your videos i have a STI ar15 1/8 twist im new to the ar15 will this work with my rifle I HAVE DOUBTS AND ALSO THE DEALER SAID DONT RUIN ur match barrel with a 22Lr round im a big fan of cci so response would be very much appreciated
@garettleigh Coming engineers in industry: The .22 round will not damage your gun any more than firing a 5.56 or .223. What will happen though is you're just not going to get really good accuracy. Reports seem to say 5-10 inches at 50 yards with a 1/7" twist. A 1/9" barrel is reported to yield 5 inch groupings, maybe a tad lower depending on ammo, at 50 yards.
Basically, if close and cheap shooting is all you care about, you should like this product. If you want accuracy, go with a .22 upper.
Brownells, I can find your other videos on gun sites but on yout tube i can not find "Checking the Headspace & Installing the Ejector" Have you up loaded it on youtube?
very interested in this product but im in the philippines. anyone out there have experience shipping this product outside the US? the m4 im planning to install this kit to does have a full auto capability, will it work? or do just use it in semi when the kit is in? the m4's make is norinco (chinese) similar to the ones used by our military and police if that helps. any thought would be greatly appreciated.
im thinking about buying this kit but i have many questions 1st is it a real cmmg unit ? 2nd the ad says brownell mags. are they blackdog mag or what? third will it work in the ar15 pistol(bmaster) and how reliable is this unit . any info would be great. thanks
.22 will fire out of .222/5.56 barrels just fine. However, it won't be as accurate as a dedicated .22LR upper. The barrel diameter isn't EXACTLY the same, and the rate of twist will be all wrong. Still, it's a decent comprise of plinking. Just don't expect match accuracy or anything if you keep the original barrel.
@Antiworld23 This may be a little late, but Stagg Arms now makes a left handed conversion kit. It is more expensive, but they always screw us lefties...
Do a web search for left handed Stagg conversion kit.
Federal is crap if its brought at walmart. The NRA has the same issue with it and they use it to train people how to use firearms because of the issue. Winchester is much better. But thanks to zombies it might be hard to find right now.
I'd like to see a gas block plug like spike's has. But there will be quite a controversy because some people doesn't like dirts and foul blowing in the face and the receivers but want to install the plug VS. people who would rather let the gas tube blow the dirt and preserve the original config w/o the plug for .223 capability.
yes but wouldnt it effect the range of it since its a .223 and ur shooting a .22 outa it so its not getting the full rotation of the rifling id guess..but idk!
Actually the 22lr coming out of a .223/5.56 barrel is over spun in some cases and will cause erratic grouping. But the 22lr will have the same range as a regular 22lr in the same barrel length. It will not have anywhere near the range of a .223
yeah im not mental i know my balistics and everything but idk much about barrel twists and stuff..over spun? i dont think so cause 22 to .223 theres a gap between there not that big of a gap but id think there would be less rifling touching the bullet so it wouldnt spin as good no matter what grain!
a 40 grain 22lr is overspun in a 1/7 twist .223/5.56
It will still shoot accurately to a certain distance but it will show at longer distances. and for 22lr.. thats like at 100 yards.
some 40gr bullet designs shoot well in 1/7 but alot don't. It is recommended at least 50-80 grain bullets in a 1/7 twist barrel to achieve maximum stability.
Has anyone had a problems with the cmmg conversion kit being stuck in their AR? I went shooting and I let the gun sit for a few days before I decided to clean it. When I took it out to clean, I couldn't take out the conversion kit. I oiled it and everything and it's still stuck. Any suggestions?
i have heard about this happening and it even happed to me once... I was lucky mine freed up with a little bit more force but i would not recommend hitting it with anything. A small tap on it might free it up but do this at your own risk... i would recommend putting some anti-seizing compound on part that looks like a 5.56 casing next time (because that is what is getting stuck in the chamber of the AR) ... srry i could not be more helpful
If you havent already solved your problem, there is another solution to what c2muchmoney said. When you get a normal 5.56 round stuck you can pound the butt stock into the soft ground and the inertia will force the bolt open and bring the casing out as well. Same concept might apply to your problem.
I have not had a problem with sticking. My problem is not feeding the first round out of the magazine. I have to push the bolt closed with my thumb. Otherwise shoots great. Accurate too at under 100 yrds.
i have a bushmaster carboin 15 m4 with a gas piston conversion kit and i was wondering if the .22lr would have enough power to cycle rounds with the piston kit on.... also what kind of issues can i come into seeing how a .22 is .003 smaller then a .223 will accuracy be poor because the barrle not designed to shoot a .22
The conversion kit will not function with the gas system's operating rod in place. The operating rod protrudes farther into the receiver & prohibits full insertion of the conversion bolt.
You're correct in the assumption the .22LR won't perform as well as it would in a dedicated .22 LR bore. The twist rate is too fast & the bore is slightly larger contributing to the lack of accuracy. The conversion unit to be realistic, is designed to make practice with the AR-15 style rifle/carbine and make shooting more affordable.
So, I heard if you got dirty .22s left overs (dust, dirt, gum, etc) clogged up in the gas tube...be sure bring the original bolt and throw 5.56 to blow that dirt out! agree?
No, the downside being that the rifling in the .223/5.56 barrel is not designed to work with a .22lr bullet. Also there is the possibility of lead buildup clogging the gas tube.
Do you still need the buffer tube when using a CMMG 22 bolt, or can you get rid of it?

Sounds really awesome, but how do you think it would perform with CMMG's 1/7 inch twist. Being as most .22 is light ammo?

@nowthisisstupid 1/7 twist is gonna be way to fast a spin for a 22 unfortunately

use the .223 barrel and chamber but shoot 22lr? wtf?

yes.
a steel machined casing that matches a 5.56/223 case fills the chamber. Its the exact same concept as those gauge reducers for shotgun.

So (and I´m sorry if I´m wrong) since the NATO 5.56 mm is so "close" to the 5.5mm of the .22LR, you don´t change the barrel, right?
We always hear that you never have to use an ammo not specifically designed for that gun; Could you have a "safety issue" with those kits?
Thank you.-
