I saw Russian and Hungarian versions of this songs, but still my prefered is french! For me hungarian is a bit too dark, and in the russian one I hate the translation, it sort of leaves out the whole meaning. And, of course, here is Rejane... what a powerful voice. I love also when she sings Et volia qu'elle aime, so emotional, too! It's really hard to beat her in this role))

It's not Alouette, it's La Muette (the Mute) - not a name but a title of sorts. That's why she doesn't speak, and when communicating with her all the other characters use gestures.

I think he says "Le Monsieur te demande ce que tu veux! T'es muette, tu n'est pas sourde, h/e?", meaning "The man is asking you what you want! You're mute, not deaf, aren't you?"

It fits the context, anyway, especially when you know she is mute!
