I think (that at least in the eyes of Sunderland fans) the respective average attendances of both Sunderland and Newcastle are quite irrelevant really. It is the current status of both club's which really matters ie Sunderland the NE's only PL representative and Newcastle in the CCC/up for sale.

But to return to the crowd issue there is stil time for Newcastle to suffer injuries/loss of form etc. and slip down the table. And this will be a good test of the Geordie loyalty.
